75 buckaroos yeah no
Jeez $75 and it doesn't even include the season pass? I'll wait for the MotY edition to go on sale for $30
Multiprocess on Firefox makes such a difference in the responsiveness of the browser while pages are loading. Damn.

Fuck that. I'll stick to my g402.
I remember buying a 2TB Seagate 2 years ago and it was either $65 or $85 at the time. Nowadays with the terrible Canadian dollar, you won't find it for less than $100. I think I got it over the WD Green 2TB which was probably the $65, hence why I spent a bit more to get the Seagate one. It's working fine 2 years in and it's mostly for storage which I kinda feel is a waste.
I got a USB drive enclosure that has a handy 'feature' of translating the 512b logical sectors on the drive to 4096b sectors presented to the OS.
This 'feature' prevents a drive partitioned in the enclosure from working on a native SATA controller, and a drive partitioned on a native SATA controller from working in the enclosure. Great job JMicron you really made something special.
Bought a used 80GB laptop hard drive and it turns out to be 300.
Good use of 20$ I'd say.

I just revived a Acer Aspire 1810TZ by buying a used screen from eBay to replace the original busted one.
Also just ordered a 4GB set of ram for it (the variant I had only shipped with 2GB)
Been contemplating on getting a 'loose' mini pci-e socket and solder it in the bare spot besides the half-size for the wi-fi module and hope that's all needed for it to work, but I needed something to shove in there.
Was considering a modem card, but a video decoding card would probably be of more use.
wait, you can solder mpcie slots onto a motherboard?

does it look like i can do that on this motherboard? if so, where? i would much prefer to keep my wlan adapter instead of having to remove it for the decoder. i could potentially have both without resorting to a wifi dongle. :')

and yeah, they are ridiculously cheap. like i said, super happy with the little set up. just need that decoder so that i can actually watch videos on youtube with >15fps
thing is amazing on battery life too. im sure that partially has to do with the OS i am running though. either way, beats the hell out of lounging around on my phone. the netbook is definitely the much more convenient option imo.

I found some mystery firmware that may or may not have been for this chipset(JMS578) and flashed it. Now my USB product ID is different and the serial number is 0123456789ABCDEF, but it's reporting 512b sectors!

The WI-FI card is already plugged into an mpcie slot tho. Replace the wifi card with a USB wifi adapter and try putting something into the slot.

Also what are these video decoder cards like? How big are they? Are they a decent replacement/supplement for an Intel GMA card? I might want to try sticking one into a Mac Mini. If they're not too complex I could probably write my own kext for it.
I was going to try sticking a mini pcie GT 710 into it, but this may be a better option. GPU acceleration doesn't work with Intel GMA in the latest macOS versions
I still find it a bit annoying that mac OS doesn't support NTFS out of the box
I still find it a bit annoying that mac OS doesn't support NTFS out of the box
The real wtf is that the Xbox 360 doesn't (or at least didn't) support NTFS.
Like seriously, Microsoft couldn't afford to license their own filesystem?
I still find it a bit annoying that mac OS doesn't support NTFS out of the box
I swear it has the ability to read from NTFS drives, but not to write. Unless you want full support... Yeah, it could use that. Fuck even my Arch partition has the ability to read and write to NTFS.

I assume they did that as an anti-piracy solution. Also doesn't the Xbox 360 still use FAT32?

Windows Phone 7 seems to have no NTFS support, and partially-broken FAT32 support. If that holds for all CE-kernel Windows (and if the Xb360 uses a CE kernel), that might explain it.

Hmm, still has something odd. It ignores OS setting and powers down the drive after ~10 minutes.

ntfs-3g also works on Mac, last I checked. The real question is why Apple doesn't roll their own ntfs-3g equivalent or just use ntfs-3g.
it might be that ntfs-3g is GPLv3, not v2
apple isn't compliant with v3, or the other way around
I know licenses are important... but fuck licenses.
Can't have ZFS on linux
Can't have ext* on windows
Can't have NTFS on mac
exFAT licensing is a big ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There's an EXT3/4 driver that works perfectly fine on Windows with read and write access.

Oh hey i put one of those cards in my hp mini 5501. There was an empty slot under the motherboard where the optional 3g modem went. Took way too much work to get the decrepit old half-finished linux drivers for it installed and working, but i eventually got it.
There's an EXT3/4 driver that works perfectly fine on Windows with read and write access.
Kinda works, miss a lot of ext4 features though so I don't really trust it with write access.
Sure there is ZFS on Linux, ntfs-3g, Ext2Fsd, and even someone working on Btrfs for windows, but it would be nice if there was native support for even one of those.
Full 25hour disk initialization test and it's 100% clean.

I found a thread from 2009 with people claiming they got these to work with the exact Mac Mini I have (early 2007 A1176 Core 2 Duo 2Ghz) so I'm gonna order one. The will probably work out much better than trying to shove a GT 710 into the case like I was planning :v:
Shame I won't get 3D acceleration but it's not like I was gonna play games on it anyway. Just being able to watch HD video is enough.

Probably the last LAN party I'll ever have with my group of friends (and the last in this house since it's being sold), it's supposed to be five of us playing games all night
Two back out literally while me and my friend driving me are on the way to the third friend's house where it's hosted
We talk for a few hours and go get pizza, start a game of Sins of a Solar Empire and get an hour in before my ride isn't feeling well and decides to go home
The host falls asleep on the couch at 2am, making it a LAN party of one
[sp]also I got drafted into helping him move tomorrow without my knowledge, when I'll have been up for ~20 hours[/sp]
Fun LAN party :toot:
You guys got any monitors to recommend that is fairly cheap, IPS and around 24''? Would like to try 1440p but I don't know if it'll clash severely with my primary monitor that is 1080p. It's probably a lot more expensive as well?
[editline]11th September 2016[/editline]
DP connectivity would be nice as well. I only have a single DVI on my GPU which is occupied by my primary monitor.

The Acer's mobo has two slots usable in the top-range model, while mine is a middle tier but uses same pcb, except with some cost savings.
