Lame, I think my new RAM sticks are DOA. I had WoW graphics die once, this morning I had a memory access violation, and the entire computer froze 100% after I let AIDA64's memory stability test run for 2 minutes. Using my old sticks now.
Weren't you still an apprentice last year? :v: "back when"
I finished Apprenticeship 3 years ago, in Summer 2013. been working at a new place as a Software Engineer (Java Backend + Web Design) ever since.
I finished Apprenticeship 3 years ago, in Summer 2013. been working at a new place as a Software Engineer (Java Backend + Web Design) ever since.
Really? Man, I remember you mentioning it as if it was yesterday.
Really? Man, I remember you mentioning it as if it was yesterday.
It didn't really feel like a long time, but a lot of stuff has changed since then. I especially never thought of having to wear a suit as a Software developer when I visit customers or customers visit our office. Having worked in Industrial Automation prior to my current job, the most I was used to was wearing an overall and a safety helmet when I went on-site.
Another reason for me to feel smug about having a separate very complex randomized password for every service I signed up for. People said I was paranoid back in the day, but nowadays, data leaks with 10's of millinos of leaked PW's, usernames and passwords (With shitty or nonexistent hashing more often than not) seem to be a common occurrence nowadays.
Its easier to set up a complex, unique password for each service and change it should it get leaked than have to change passwords on every service each time if one of them gets compromised.
Hey guys, I'm in need of some help I've gotta convert my father's iMac primary boot SSD from MBR to GPT, preferably without loss of data, to accomodate an upgrade to Sierra (Sierra doesn't support MBR disks). I've looked around but there seem to be only Windows utilities to do that easily, and no Mac ones. I saw the GPT fdisk utility which someone used for his OSX Lion upgrade, but the documentation for that says it cannot be used for El Capitan, which is what he's upgrading from. Could I use a Windows utility to do the same thing? I've looked at this one but it looks like one of those sketchy as fuck "fake" softwares - "So, you can luckily enough to avoid data loss problem during the MBR to GPT converting process. This wonderful and considerate feature makes this program stand out all other partition manage software." Otherwise, if all these utilities are whack, I've already made a bootable backup on a spare 1TB Thunderbolt HDD lying around. Would it be better to just wipe the original SSD, reformat and replace? Would that work?
my fingers slipped
Anyone here have experience with Avecto? It's this shitty software they're installing on our systems that's so fucked up that you can't run half of your shit as an administrator. Or copy files across the network. Two things that are core to our workflow.
my fingers slipped
That's not a bad price at all either.
Its easier to set up a complex, unique password for each service and change it should it get leaked than have to change passwords on every service each time if one of them gets compromised.
Hindsight...
Hindsight...
Trust me, even when I was at college I was still reusing passwords on a regular basis. I was an idiot.
Some blogpunch, in case you thought the great Warship had died: I'm living alone for the first time in my life since the 8th. It's pretty lonely but music keeps me sane. I'm only gonna live like this for a couple of months, until the guy (awesome dude I met that I'm helping with photo/video work as my job) who usually lives here returns from Canada. Today I've been doing some pretty big data transfers and I noticed that Seagate external drives get pretty freaking hot inside, SMART has reported up to 56c. Isn't that pretty hot for a harddrive? Co-incidentally, one of the almost-unused 8TB drives keeps randomly disconnecting (and giving an I/O error) during file copies. Then I have to cut power from it and retry the task. Now I just wrote "Piece of shit" on it and hope that helps.

At work I got a 4TB and two 6TB externals with footage from another editor. Things hit 66c when copying data off. To be fair, they were stacked. Spreading them out they hit 50c though.
Anyone know where I can get 2GB sticks of DDR2 for cheap? It's for my old gaming PC.
New avatar, now you suckers get to see my other cute black cat.
Joke's on you I have avatars turned off.
Joke's on you I have avatars turned off.
I will find a way to share with you my cat. Maybe if you are driving through Englewood you will see him in a window.
Now I just have to find a way to turn off titles. [editline]21st September 2016[/editline]
I will find a way to share with you my cat. Maybe if you are driving through Englewood you will see him in a window.
I'll start doing cruises down there. I now work literally right next to the Bronco's stadium.
I had a really cute black cat until it got run over by a truck, then I found this cute thing on the street and gave it a home.
Sorry to hear about your first cat, but this kitten is adorable.
My fat old cat is sleeping on the couch next to me
I'll start doing cruises down there. I now work literally right next to the Bronco's stadium.
I'm sure that'll be traffic hell on game day :v: Fun fact about the cat in my avatar, we adopted him exactly a year ago!
I'm sure that'll be traffic hell on game day :v: Fun fact about the cat in my avatar, we adopted him exactly a year ago!
Yes luckily I only work M-F. But half my job will be me up in Boulder so I'm moving to Nort h Westminster-ish. Pretty bad traffic as is due to construction.
Oh cats? My soon-to-be dead cat is still in the soon-to-be dead condition but apparently the giant bubble on his head turned out to be an infection from a fight he had been in, so when he went to sleep it blew up and the wall was full of pus and blood and shit. It's a funny sight seeing a cat with a band-aid walking around your garden :v Also my whatever speaker I made out of an old voyager radio and speakers seems to not have a filter. It means it tries to do all the sounds from 1Hz to whatev. and it gets reaaally bad crackling at like 30-40Hz. Like, below sounds weird anyways and above sometimes starts to clip but there are a few frequencies where it just craps the fuck out and it is so annoying.
It's gotten so cold these days that I'm thinking of pulling out my old P4 prescott and using that as a heater. [sp] seriously though, it's 16 C and it was 36 C like 3 days ago[/sp]
dogs are better an cats because dogs
Dogs require more attention than my job lets me give.
Get new job because dogs.
My room stays pretty consistently at 80F due to all the network gear and computer stuff. It's going to be great in the winter but for now my 1 air vent struggles to keep up. Plus since the thermostat is in the living room it thinks the house is fine when my room is still 10 degrees warmer.
