Monitors are like TVs. You can pay the $200 price for the shitty RCA/Curtis/Sylvania/Technicolor 32" or you can pay an extra $100-250 and get the better brands which have a wider feature set or the better quality panel. If you want a better quality monitor with a rich feature set, pay up. Or you can stop whining and get a cheap functional TN panel with 1-3ms and possibly free sync.
Leaning towards Nvidia since I can always use NVENC as a backup on the machine. Along with that is power. 560 Ti and 750 Ti use only PCIe slot power, yes? I know OBS now supports AMD's encoding setup, but dunno how good it is. Basically the GPU would just need to be low power and good enough to run compositing for OBS or whatever I end up using later.
Are there people out there that like to benchmark/test encoding set-ups? If AyyMD worked hard to win the streaming/be crowd, that could put money back in their pockets.

I think I'm going to pick one up for my HTPC though because I'd rather have kepler.
Microsoft might just want to give up on computers now. So I have some old ebooks, old enough that they're in .txt format. I feel like reading them on my Surface. Notepad opens them fine, and with a big font it's readable, but it still keeps trying to edit instead of scroll, and it's not fullscreen. Notepad++ fixes the latter but is even more editing-focused. I decide to try finding an ebook app. They've got to support plain ASCII text, right? And I'm specifically looking for a touch-oriented, fullscreen one, so I obviously want to use that newfangled Windows Store thing. First app shows only a blank screen. And is apparently only in Polish. Second app doesn't support TXT, only PDF and EPUB. All the rest on the first page are either in crazy languages, have in-app purchases, or cost actual money. So I try the right-click -> open with -> search the store, figuring c'mon, even Microsoft can't fuck up supported file extensions. And hey, the top result is Foxit Mobile, I use Foxit as a PDF viewer on one of my other machines. It doesn't support non-PDF files. Doesn't let you navigate to them, says they're corrupted if you open it in Explorer. Microsoft literally can't even do "does this app support this file type?" properly in their store. Fuck it. I'm just gonna open it in Firefox and set the zoom to fuckhuge and go fullscreen.
If I knew you were selling I'd have bought it. Been wanting a midrange card for a future streaming server, Was planning on buying a 560 Ti or a 750 Ti off ebay.
i have a GTX 670 lying around but it requires 6-pin power also have a 9800 GT :v:
I would recommend something newer than my 560 Ti tbh. Part of the reason for my upgrade is so that I can get a card with better video encoding capabilities.
i have a GTX 670 lying around but it requires 6-pin power also have a 9800 GT :v:
which GTX 670 is it?

Fixed Function encoders can only do so much.
Playing Skyrim in Windows 10, I can walk through about three loading screens and then the entire OS just locks up and I have to hit the hardware reboot switch. Playing Skyrim in Linux, same computer, absolutely no problems, just need to turn on Gallium Nine to fix a bug with extreme-distance LODs. Windows: 0 Linux: 1

I played skyrim on Windows 10 just fine. Maybe it's a driver thing. Or maybe the anniversary update did something.
I'm this fucking close right now to unironically installing windows ME. Please help me.
I'm this fucking close right now to unironically installing windows ME. Please help me.
Windows ME was literally worse than Vista Is that perspective helpful?
I'm this fucking close right now to unironically installing windows ME. Please help me.
Install arch instead. By the time you get it working correctly you'll have lost interest in computers.
Install arch instead. By the time you get it working you'll have lost interest.
you're thinking of gentoo arch only takes like 5 to 30 minutes to install depending on if you've never done it before
I installed Arch in a VM and the hardest part was partitioning because the wiki didn't have a step by step guide for dummies on how to do it unlike every other step. Had to spend 5 minutes Googling it to get the partition aligned.

Skyrim stories remind me of my friend. We had 5 people together, started playing CSGO. One friend says that he will disconnect probably at around 10 minutes in, we were like wtf but ok, if you think so. Like clockwork, 10 minutes and his PC restarted. I can't remember him having a bad PC, but it looks like somewhere something fucked up and now he can't play any vidya.
Windows ME was literally worse than Vista Is that perspective helpful?
At least vista looks pretty
Install arch instead. By the time you get it working correctly you'll have lost interest in computers.
I'm deploying a system recovery image. I don't have any control over what OS I'm installing. If this was windows 2000 I could at least upgrade to XP but this is Millennium, 98 is a downgrade and can cause problems and 2K is the NT kernel and all the proprietary drivers for this thing will break. Oh Pentium since you're here I have a question. How do you vanquish dot matrix printers? I've tried salting the ribbon and burning it but no luck, it just shrugged off holy water too. But seriously over the last week I've spend roughly 15 hours troubleshooting various issues with the 6 dot matrix printers at this client. :suicide:
Somebody on here mentioned that they use ExpressVPN. Could you post some speedtest.net/fast.com speedtests? The only firm number I've been able to find is from a youtube video that did not show favorable results. If I could get like, 30+ Mb/s I think it'd be worth the extra cost comapred to BoxPN where I get around 10 to 15 Mb/s.
I played skyrim on Windows 10 just fine. Maybe it's a driver thing. Overwatch is fine, Rocket League is fine, Civ is fine.
