I'm sad, upgraded to 1000mbit Internet and its great on laptop with ethernet cable, but the wireless is still max 50mbit and I can't get a cable from my desktop pc to the router due to family not wanting a long call.
Get a Wireless AC router
[editline].[/editline]
ninja'd
802.11AC router and network adapter for stationary.
The fibre is connected to a router supplied by isp that I can't remove, which is N standard, so it doesn't help much. I bought a ac750 to see if it would improve it a bit but it didn't.

You could still buy a 802.11AC router and configure it as a dumb wireless access point wired to the ISP's router.

A wifi extender isn't going to help when it has to get the signal through the shitty N wireless. What you want to do is use an AC router connected via Ethernet to the ISP-provided router as a wireless access point.
Or just get a plain old AC access point
Get this one, obviously

So I'm either quitting my job tomorrow, or getting fired tomorrow. Anyone got advice?

The high score for a disgruntled IT guy knocking out international connections before security dragged them away is 12 countries.
You must get 13 or more international offices offline to beat the current record.

Most of these modem/router combined devices has a "bridge mode" setting. This allows you to use your own router and have the WAN port directly connect to the modem instead of through its internal router.

We don't have any international connections and all of our stuff is in the cloud besides our workstations and the NAS.

Move!
It's fun.
Move!

Unfortunately, I have a lease for the next 8 months on my current apartment, and there's no early-exit.
Good news, I have 8 months expenses already saved up, and have a job basically lined up.
You should move anyways. It's fun.

I'm actually pretty happy with my current location. Have I mentioned I almost literally live in the Hilton? I think I've been trying not to mention it because it's totally bragging but I totally live in the Hilton.
Hilton NY?
No, a Hilton hotel in downtown RVA.
Not bad.
Hilton NY?
Literally nothing here but a decent pizza joint and coffee shop.
And deer running across an under-patrolled parkway where I occasionally hit 90mph

That's what my ac750 Asus router is, it's connected to the other one with ethernet and has its own network, it gets the same speeds.

Ah; I assumed it was a WiFi extender, my mistake. That doesn't sound right. Perhaps QoS is on and fucking things up? AC750 has a theoretical max speed of 750Mbps, but in practice it's often much lower. I dont know what kind of speeds you might expect off a 750 router. My home router is an Archer C7, AC1750. It gets around 200Mbps WiFi speeds on 5Ghz AC, depending on the distance from the router.

It's not a very expensive ac750 router, it cost me 39 Eur with 20% off from employee price. But it still doesn't give me more than 40-50mbit at best. It's probably my isp forgetting to make the wireless higher speeds too.
So that's more then 5 minutes shower and talking with family is important.
Anyway story time with Kiwi.
So today me and my volunteer employer we're having a conversation about websites allowing auto-fill rather then ignoring/denying it and how Chrome can be a piece of shit and not respect it(and this is WELL DOCUMENTED).
Brings up a story about an ex colleague who also claims to be a "web developer" who yes did do web development but did the most basic of shit, an ass in general and lacked a security conscious.
So in the work place where this took place in Chrome there are two ways you can disable Auto-Fill that actually work on the browser level.

Or with the policy change for Chrome Businesses.
Now of course the policy of turning Auto-fill off was going to be in effect and it should of happened a lot earlier... and the move from personal accounts to business accounts and setting up a Organization was going to happen.
However in this ex employees account he had everything including customer sensitive information on auto-fill on his personal account(you were provided your business account credentials but you also had the choice of using your personal one as long as you linked it and had auto-fill turned off)...
He was busted in front of the boss and was fired.
Main lesson of the day.
Do not use Auto-fill.
I'm not sure I get the story. Also, autofill isn't some bogeyman, it's not a huge security risk, because if your internal sites get hijacked you don't have to worry about a user login. Now, storing passwords in the browser store can be considered somewhat rsiky. Also, I don't see why a website should prevent autofills?
What is a volunteer employer?

I spent a month in a Hilton and am currently back in the same Hilton half way through a 2 week stay. Eh it's nice having someone cleaning after you and making your bed every day but the tiny fridge and only having a microwave sucks

You're forgetting that I can't even make spaghetti without screwing up.

I've done similar on a portable gas stove in the mountains. Not hard.

Oh I know. I make burgers and chicken pretty often if I don't stay late at work. I just recently made the mistake of buying gluten free spaghetti and screwing that up since I guess it has to be cooked differently??

gluten free spaghetti is a nightmare. I'm a coeliac so I kinda have to stick to that stuff and it's just... you cook it for a second too long and it turns to mushy soup. It's gross.
