LAN parties are pretty fun.
you can always go to a hackathon instead, it's like a lan party minus the fun
So I got the HP ZBook Studio in the mail and I've never had so many issues with a laptop until now. Updating Windows 7 took forever so I decided to just use the Windows 10 media creation tool and install Windows 10 that way. It worked fine. Apparently I was supposed to first enable UEFI mode in the BIOS before installing Windows 10. Whoops, but I don't think that really affects anything and I should be able to turn it back on afterwards right? Ok Windows 10 is installed and some stuff don't work so I start to update the drivers. The HP SoftPaq download manager software is basically Windows Update but supposedly better? I dunno, it's HP's updating and software installation program and it works. It auto-detects your computer and shows you what works for your machine. I download and install the updates for stuff but it turns out I have to click on "Show This Computer" to see all of the stuff I can install. So all I was doing was updating existing programs. I'm like ok whatever, I'll go download and install what I don't have yet. Also SoftPaq is supposed to auto-install some stuff for you, turns out it doesn't do that and it doesn't notify you that it wasn't able to auto-install it for you, so I had to go through each one, one at a time to check if it actually installed or not. And for whatever reason, I can't update 4 items after trying a bunch of times. I've even installed them individually but SoftPaq insists that the version I have isn't installed. Maybe I installed the latest and it just doesn't know or something like that. This laptop has an annoying fan speed behaviors where it would speed up and then slow down constantly and it got really annoying. It's a known issue so a fix was to update the BIOS. I do that and it decides to start beeping at me and I search that up to find out that the BIOS can't be found. Great. So after some more tinkering, it eventually started to work again. Maybe the BIOS should have been updated before upgrading to Windows 10. But that doesn't fix the fan speeds. After some more searching, it turns out that a BIOS update is supposed to come out next month for many HP laptops that have this issue. Good job HP. You've had this fan issue on many laptops for 9 months now. I also got the HP Thunderbolt 3 dock but it wouldn't detect. The software was already installed but apparently I had to uninstall and reinstall it for it to start working. OK so it's working now and that's great, I go install more stuff that would be useful. Reboot. BSOD. Great. I restore to a previous restore point and have to do all of this shit all over again. Wow really now. Also this thing came with an ISO layout keyboard. Ew. I want muh ANSI layout. I don't know why but the HP Support Assistant Quick Access Toolbar keeps on coming back even if I removed it earlier. Like come on HP. Update: anyways, after doing that installing again, things seem to work fine, for now.
I refuse to believe that. I can find LAN parties around rural Australia, for crying out loud. I guarantee you they exist.
The last parties I'm aware of were Global Game Jam 2013 and 2014. There was another event last year in Langley but it as literally a 12 hour gig. It seems most of the events are out east. Unrelated, I'm feeling reckless tonight.
Absolute waste of space
Such a waste of space that it gets an extra key on the layout compared to inferior design. That argument doesn't really work. :v:
Japanese keyboard layout for worst idea all time. [t]http://machizukan.net/DK/keyboad_us/jp_109a.jpg[/t] Has the awful enter key on ISO layout and you get a tiny space bar because fuck you. It's so bad Japanese people don't even use it and just use US layout + IME instead.

Visual J++ oh god why are you doing this
How would you feel if I shamelessly begged for votes in a web dev contest here
Depends, is the general layout all rounded images/avatars and flatter-then-flat Metro wannabe?
I dug out ye olde netbook from storage today and set out to fix it's faulty power jack. In the process, I found something curious! [t]http://i.imgur.com/MzXWg2N.png[/t] Unpopulated and normally inaccessible mini-PCIE socket? Yes, please. Looked it up and it seems like it's built to take a WWAN module, but now I'm looking online for neat things to stick in there and see if they work...
Cheapo HP and Compaq laptops whitelist the devices allowed in the mPCI-E slots. Tried to upgrade one to an Intel 6200 WiFi card, no boot, no fun. also the way that one is designed it probably shares a board with a larger model where there is room to make that accessible and it was cheaper to just make one SKU
I love my 290x but god is the cooler fans getting on my nerves, had to change the fan profile again to avoid yet another rattle range, anything from 30~60% makes it rattle like a motherfucker.

Not just the cheap hp laptops that do it. My elitebook has a whitelisted WWAN, wifi and bluetooth slot. Oh and it can't be patched out as the BIOS is hashed.
I'd really love to go to a LAN party one weekend. Just show up with old shit and legit game the whole event. But there's literally nothing in the Pacific Northwest.
There has to be. Finland has fuck-all people, but we have Assembly Summer and Winter, we have LanTrek, and I think there was some big event that happened like right before Assembly Summer every year, so people would first be there, then drive like 500km and be at Assembly Summer. There's even a website for tracking LANs in Finland. http://lanit.fi/
Imagine shoving that into a Wii modchip and running the entire Wii and GC library off one card
I believe the Wii can only read Fat32 though, I can foresee it getting messy quick.
Dayum, wonder how the speeds are
Same speeds as the other Extreme Pro cards, 95MB/s maximum speeds.
Don't you just love fixing critical client issues that are caused by the client making untested changes in production they vehemently deny making? Had our client support folks ask them and finally... "Oh yeah... we made those modifications last night. (When it stopped working.)"
If this bar was any closer to my gate, it would be on the airplane
the contest voting thingy i asked about yesterday is back up fourth time's the charm please vote for this hedgehog https://a-k-apart.com/gallery/10-kilobytes-of-Nagato-Yu
But I don't want to sign in through Facebook
real 10x devs sign in through github

People have done absolutely insane things with these chunky little laptops. Ultrabooks a shit.
i thought those crystal hd cards were USB no?
Pepper;51208431']i thought those crystal hd cards were USB no?
Nope, pci-express x1 (which is the amount of lanes mini-pciE has, along with expresscards)
Was it ever possible to get lossless output from a Wii? You can HDMI mod a GameCube but I don't think a Wii one ever came about.
