Was it ever possible to get lossless output from a Wii? You can HDMI mod a GameCube but I don't think a Wii one ever came about.
Not that I'm aware of (the Gamecube HDMI mod is pretty new, and only works on certain models for now), but the Wii U has all the hardware of a Wii inside (it's not emulation, it's actual hardware), and can output HDMI. So if you need lossless recording of a Wii game, that's probably the easiest option.
Was it ever possible to get lossless output from a Wii? You can HDMI mod a GameCube but I don't think a Wii one ever came about.
Wii supports analog component output which is probably as good as it gets unless someone has modded it. Not much point tho since the Wii U has HDMI-out and can play all Wii games (and many GCN games through Nintendont). The GCN HDMI mod is cool though, I was looking to get component cables a while ago but they were ridiculously expensive.
But ultimately though, it just is upscaling the Gamecube's output and at some of the prices I've seen quoted going beyond £100 I really hate to say it to me it puts it in the same category as those "audiophile" devices we all love to mock. Especially when this is one of the most basic sort of functionality Dolphin offers.
I would see if someone wants the mod for the convenience factor, not the "UNCOMPRESSED AUDIO AND VIDEO" stuff. It's a lot less clunky for people who are working up a functioning collection of consoles to have them switch via HDMI rather than analog ports which could end up being clunky to switch.

And the stupid interlaced signal. I want to mod my Gamecube mostly so I can use it with my nice monitor, rather than my shitty TV. I have an almost-fully-tricked-out DOL-001 model - Game Boy Player, Ethernet modem, only thing missing is the digital video output. But the component cables for it are literally like $200, and even then it wouldn't work with anything but my TV.
:ok: [t]https://helifreak.duckdns.org/image/20161015233408038.png[/t] Claims I've already voted now so maybe it actually worked.

I mean if you buy decent quality cables it's no worse than HDMI 480p. I have no qualms with analog personally.
There has to be. Finland has fuck-all people, but we have Assembly Summer and Winter, we have LanTrek, and I think there was some big event that happened like right before Assembly Summer every year, so people would first be there, then drive like 500km and be at Assembly Summer. There's even a website for tracking LANs in Finland. http://lanit.fi/
Literally, there's nothing. Even Linus has to travel out of province to find something.
Travelling is part of the fun Pentium. I had to travel 3 hours by bus just to get to PingZero in Auckland from Whangarei. Was fun though.
I can understand travelling five hours to Vancouver/Calgary or seven to Seattle but there's still nothing there or in between. I'm so fucking confused. The only other option I'm seeing is QuakeCon on the other end of the continent.
Any recommendations on a good screwdriver set to buy? I'm tired of not having the right size torx/misc bit.

[t]http://ramblings.narrabilis.com/GC/cable-board.jpg[/t] It's total bullshit.
It's more about rarity and demand in the collector scene than the complexity of the cables. They weren't particularly expensive when they could be bought new, after all. I'm glad this mod is getting done tho cuz it used to make more sense to just buy a Wii and use component-out if you wanted the GameCube to look decent on a flat screen.
AFAIK the OEM component Gamecube cables were only available by online order. Up until a while ago some parts still were, I remember checking in 2012 and you could still order OEM replacement lid plates right from Nintendo's site because they hadn't run out.

For most people, yeah, a Wii is probably fine but I'd much rather have the Gamecube actually work at 480p. Expensive for a cable, sure, but not $200. If they can make a plug-in version of the HDMI mod, so I don't have to risk breaking my Gamecube (I have a bad history with soldering) I'm totally getting it. Assuming I figure out the employment situation, at least.
I've also heard installing WiiKey fusions in Cubes is hard too. Can anyone confirm?

Not sure if this belongs in this thread, but I love old tech documentaries.
So, I've been out partying and I come home 6:30 in the morning to a fucking BIOS screen on the side of the house
Also this thing came with an ISO layout keyboard. Ew. I want muh ANSI layout.
OK so it turns out that the keyboard localization I have is English/French Canadian. I looked up the SKU and it turns out that HP Canada's website only has this one in the catalog, which means they only have this one SKU. I think they had 2 at some point IIRC, maybe one with the US English keyboard without the French bs. Anyways I decided to look up the replacement parts for this and found that I could get the replacement keyboard for US English. It's $129 CAD + shipping + taxes. At this point, I'm better off contacting HP to see my realistic options for this. If they can send me the SKU/model with a US English keyboard as a replacement, that works and solves the keyboard issue. If not, then I'll find which SKU has the US English keyboard with the same specs and buy it; and of course return the one I have now with the stupid keyboard. Probably order it off CDW or something like that. And yes, this ISO layout keyboard is legitimately annoying. I'm actually having trouble pressing the left shift and Enter key. I wonder what Apple is going to release/announce on the 27th... Probably update their Mac line.

Today I realised that Moodle doesn't check the size of files in ZIPs and happily extracts them regardless of it being 11x the max size limit. Eat shit. Due to the magic of Moodle™ even if I delete it, a 1.11 GiB BMP is going to permanently be on the server.

Thinking of replacing my second monitor (an old BenQ T2200HD) to something more up2date. I was thinking maybe 4K but my main monitor is only 1080p and I don't want to make the 4K one the main one as this one is 144hz. It sounds a little backwards to have a higher res secondary monitor but I can't really afford to replace this 144hz just yet and there's nothing really wrong with it. Any of you have a setup like this? How does it work out for you?
