You don't unscrew it while it's glowing hot, you let it cool down a bit first, the thread of the screw expands out the thread it's screwed into a slight amount, just enough so it isn't a bitch to unscrew, but so the thread is still usable afterwards.
It's an artform for smaller screws & bolts though, think anything below M6.
But what's the point of removing a screw if you ruin the threads? At that point you can just drill it out straight away.
If it's a screw that doesn't sit flush, you can always dremel a gap on the top and use a flathead:

Doesn't exactly work on small laptop screws though
But what's the point of removing a screw if you ruin the threads? At that point you can just drill it out straight away.
The point is you don't ruin the threads, you heat the screw so it grows and expands the threads ever so slightly along with it and then when the screw shrinks it comes out relatively easily. Basically magic.

I honestly agree to your post to the slightest extents. Some people in this thread gets quite pretentious and obnoxious when it comes to linux and OS discussions in general.
Don't get me wrong though, I don't hate linux. I make all my developments on linux on a daily basis, but I don't wave a flag around going "hey guise look at me im using loonix xdd", or thinking I have some kind of superiority complex for using a certain linux distro over other OS/distros.
Computers are for nerds.
I don't think we do that like the stereotypical Mac people who have to take 15 seconds to go out of their way and tell how macOS and Mac hardware is better than any other OS/hardware on the market.

His bait was a reverse of the stereotypical fanboyism, instead being a dummy and wanting to push his "WINDOWS IS BAE" agenda.

That doesn't agree with his post at all, he's basically saying Linux is garbage and everyone hates it, while you're saying something closer to the oft-repeated statement "everyone likes different things"
(good thing that dumbass is banned, thanks Novangel)

Setting aside my issues with bleeding edge distros, that simple fact is enough to keep me from going back.

Yeah, it's honestly a bit of a turn off but I don't like any other distros for desktop use as much so I'm stuck with it.

Fedora isn't really a bleeding edge anymore unless you've got rawhide actually. They've pretty much shifted to it as their primary workstation OS.

It's much more so than Cent or RHEL but I still wouldn't call it bleeding edge.

Well yeah, basically CentOS to Fedora is the same difference as Debian Boring to Ubuntu.

Is this supposed to be aimed at me?
Speaking of operating systems, I've used Mac OS for like 2 months now. After using Windows for the longest time ever, I like and hate it. It works but there's a number of annoying things with it, just like any other OS. So to people saying how Mac OS is the best OS ever, I have failed to see why exactly.
It just works.

Most of my issues with Macs are caused by them speaking a different "language" than Windows, as far as getting shit done is concerned
there are some cognates, like the Copy and Paste hotkeys are more or less the same, but everything else is radically different and every time I get put in front of a Mac I get lost.
Anyone with sense hates windows. Still have to use it for quite a few things.

The Alt-Tabbing is kinda the same but different in Mac OS. It only Command+Tab (aka Alt-Tab in Windows) to the individual program so if you have multiple Windows, you're supposed to use Command+` to cycle through the same program. So if you have multiple Chrome windows open, that's the way to go through them. I didn't know that for the longest time but I do like it and wish it was on Windows.
There is two Minimize functions, one of them is to Hide the program which is useful since it hides all of the windows of that specific program. It just gets annoying when you go to the next virtual desktop, it's a Chrome window, and it brings you back to the previous desktop and opens up all of the Chrome windows you hid earlier. The other is to Minimize which brings the window down to the dock. I did find minimize keyboard shortcut to be easier to press than on Windows. It's Command+M vs. Al+Space, then N.
I found using the Command key instead of the Control key to be very comfortable when pressing keyboard shortcuts. It's right by the thumb and just feels easier to press overall. No more killing my pinky finger.
Spotlight search is pretty neat but it can be dumb sometimes. I search for a program that I just installed and sometimes it brings up the .dmg installer instead of the actual program.
Using Command+Q to basically force quit programs is useful too.
Using Command+W to close the window but not quit the program is neat too. Wish that was available on Windows. Pressing Alt+F4 can be a hassle.
Last resort before drilling it out is to heat it up so it's almost glowing red, but that depends on whenever the nearby components are heat sensitive or not.
I snapped the heads off some screws working on my car a couple weeks ago, a torch and vice grips got em out eventually.
Anyone with sense hates windows. Still have to use it for quite a few things.
I have mixed feelings about both.
Linux is a brilliant Server OS, and a pleasure to use for Development, but regular day-to-day casual use, I seem to have many minor issues here and there, that can get annoying over time.
Windows is a great Desktop OS, it's server counterpart is alright however I absolutely despise how Microsoft still haven't managed to implement software updates without having to restart at any kind of update no matter how small it is.
And Windows is a pain to use as a development platform if you are trying to do anything cross-platform, especially when trying to use things like node-gyp, or anything that Requires compiling C/C++ code. Some things require MSVC, some require GCC. For example, When a lib needs openssl you need to do the magic voodoo dance and pull out a shitton of Environment variables just to satisfy that requirement https://gist.github.com/retep998/eeca39710290d294c81f38e8f8490801.
I may get a new MacBook if they announce a new one this months and if its good. I always enjoyed OSX, even with all its own little flaws, it atleast provides me with a nice desktop and a good development environment.
But it's the year of the Linux desktop™
But what's the point of removing a screw if you ruin the threads? At that point you can just drill it out straight away.
You don't ruin it if you do it right.

When it's all cooled down, it's basically like before.
I do this shit almost daily at my job, although with big-boy bolts most of the time, but there's an occasional M6 or smaller showing up who's decided to be a little bitch.
big boy bolts have ratings and those threads will never allow for that sorta abuse and still stay in spec.
big boy bolts have ratings and those threads will never allow for that sorta abuse and still stay in spec.
You WILL be surprised what I see.
Almost literal greasemonkeys using impact wrenches to torque something that's mean to be torqued with a tolerance of +/- 5Nm.
You're assuming there's a limit to stupidity, there isn't...
big boy bolts have ratings and those threads will never allow for that sorta abuse and still stay in spec.
I kind of doubt any random Facepunch user is asking on here about how to remove a screw that's stuck in its threading in any industrial application, or other application where the tolerances are absolutely critical. Either way I seriously doubt the thermal expansion needed to get the screw unstuck is so big the hole doesn't go back to being within spec once it's cooled down, unless the material is literal garbage or it's cooled down too quickly. I actually have some big boy books about big boy bolts and their big boy properties, amongst other things, from some uni courses I took last year before I switched from mechanical engineering to robotics, so I kind of feel like I should know.
Also I take boxes too personally.

My fiance decided for haloween barhopping this year we are gonna dress us as 20s gangsters. I thought eh, fine with me, i get to wear a pinstripe suit and smoke fat cigars.
Then i realized im pretty much gonna have to wear a fedora. I thought maybe i could get awaywith an old flat cap, butthe more i try to avoid the cringey fdora, the more im faced with the fact that 20s gangsters ONLY wore fedoras. Fuck.
