Sure is. Most USB optical drives I've seen use two USB ports because one isn't enough for the motor let alone with a keyboard too.
That's what I was afraid of. The instruction manual has a single footnote to the effect of "some devices might not have enough power. Use a Y cable, yo." Would a USB type c OTG cable provide enough juice, or do I Need to use a y cable? If I use a Y cable, can I plug one end into the keyboard and the other into my portable power bank?
The whole point of this getup is we have no electricity and want to watch movies on our only portable computer.

Generally what I've found is that optical drives like having 1 amp+ of power available. When I was using an optical drive with a Raspberry Pi, the only way I could get it to run reliably was using the powered USB hub built into the monitor.
The drive isn't broken.
That value is a sign the drive worked to fix itself, it's merely a sign of possible future issues.
Always have backups, but the drive should be working fine.
A full format or a full disk write forces the drive to reallocate weak sectors, so it should run fine.

Its probably fine for light use, but honestly with as cheap as drives are getting these days I wouldn't personally bother with it.

As long as the speed checks out (Do a HD Tune performance test) you should be fine. A surface write test wouldn't hurt though, will force any bad sectors to pop up and hopefully reallocate just fine.
I overwrote the drive and overall it seems to be performing fine. I'm getting about 80MB/s write speeds and it looks like a slow 5400RPM drive to begin with.

If that means fucking kyocera's don't make it I'm fine with this outcome.
who wanna help me fix this broken bodycam video i got from the local police department?
so far: handbrake wont work, Grau GmbH Video Repair works but it does not recover audio (which is the important part), ffmpeg says no moov atom, and i have no fucking clue what i'm doing with this hex editor. anyone want to help me hex edit this thing back to life, audio and all?
[editline]25th October 2016[/editline]
info on a file from the same bodycam:

[editline]25th October 2016[/editline]
if anyone wants to give it a shot i can also shoot over the download links for the broken and reference file
[editline]25th October 2016[/editline]
alright i've completely recovered the video through other means (early version of grau), now i just need to recover the audio. i have the raw audio file ready to hex edit but i'm not sure where to go from here.

It's a pci-e X1 slot in a different shape, you could technically run a gpu or RAID card off it.

You can even use the ExpressCard slot for eGPUs on some of the older Lenovo laptops with an adapter like this:

Roommates agreed on 75 degrees when they signed this roommate agreement form at the beginning of the semester.
Someone keeps changing the temperature in the middle of the night to 80 - 90 degrees and I finally got tired of it

Who the fuck turns the thermostat up to fucking 90 degrees
I don't know but I was tired of waking up sweating

Also one of them is a streamer that yells a lot for his audience most nights and you can hear his mechanical keyboard going CLACKCLACKCLACKCLACK all the time

tell him to shut the fuck up then
Who the fuck keeps it at 75F/24C tbh, I find even that pretty high. Don't need more than 21-22C/70-72F personally.
When we had the roommate agreement form done, I had them all submit their desired temperatures and the average was 75. I compiled all their answers onto the final form for submission like that
Probably data skewed by that one guy that put 90F.

Do you have an anti virus/home security software that does HTTPS scanning? Disable it. It was the cause of mine.

This is true. Linux would be a good bet for his computer, but he's quite stubborn. He still uses Live Mail 2012 for his mail client and won't move away from it because other clients have a slightly different layout.
He says he's going to just buy a new computer. Wishing him luck with that as it'll have Windows 10 on there. :smug:

ExpressCard to USB 3.0 card, and pcmcia to Compact-Flash along with Compact-Flash to Micro-SD XC adapter.
Dongles and other external adapters are reserved for plebs who bought into the ultrabook craze.
Keep it internal and flush, fat laptops needs loving too.

I've decided to plan to dual-boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu. Haven't extensively used Linux in years so it's going to be fun and a good excuse to actually use Linux for once. Or maybe I'll even install gentoo
Fuck that, Ebay the shit outta that.
I'm gonna eBay the shit out of a lot of stuff for this Thinkpad, I have yet to find a computer shop in Toronto that has plenty of what I want to find: Expresscard to USB 3, a 2.5 inch drive caddy, new battery, 4GB RAM stick, TrackPoint nip.
I'm fine waiting a month or two for this stuff since it's not essential to have it running. I already got 1 4GB RAM stick and the charger.

This should be illegal.
Anyone else notice Chrome being hot garbage recently? Doesn't matter if it's on my Windows 7 work PC, my Windows 10 home desktop or my MacBook, sometimes it will just stop loading pages and the entire tab needs to be closed and reopened before it'll work.

Over 72f and I start sweating like a fat neckbeard.
This Brother printer is pissing me off, I can't get the WiFi Wizard to work. It worked fine on Mac OS. But on Windows? Nooo, sorry can't detect the printer. The printer can print just fine, but trying to connect it to WLAN is being a pain in the ass. It just worked fine on Mac.
Mac OS. It just werks.
