Northern hemisphere problem too. Last Decemberween, it reached a whopping 73°F (~22°C for the peasantry). We'll be lucky to even see 60°F this "winter".
Who the fuck turns the thermostat up to fucking 90 degrees
The fuck, that's like a summers day in Toronto.. 32C...
Depends on the climate of the area. Summer at it's hottest isn't any more than 105f here with 110 being like record breaking, but normally it's mid 80s, which is comfortable. But that's not factoring in humidity. Its hardly ever very humid in my area so 100+f isn't so bad.
Winters are just wet and cold. Not quite cold enough to snow, but still cold.
Humidity is the worst thing ever, worse yet, humidity is relative, so you get more water stored in the air the higher the temperature, so humidity is even worse at 30c than it is a 20c.
#southernhemisphereproblems
Better than it snowing in summer

What's this "snow" ya'll are talking about? Is it some kind of esoteric French dessert?
Skyrim SE preload is now up.
Prep yourselves, bitches.
Man I love Amazon Prime savings, I get like a 20% discount on AmazonBasics stuff and buying 5 of the same thing basically gets you one for free.

Try the midwest for swings. I've had summers at 105f and winters at -40 wind chill.
Worst of both worlds.
-10 in the freezer at work is plenty cold enough for me
Update on the Thinkpad, it has been cleaned inside out with compressed air. As expected, there was a lot of dust in the fans. I'll add new thermal paste whenever I get some later on. Got charger and it works. Found out how to pull the battery at properly. Turns out there's a SIM card slot so I could get mobile data on this thing which is pretty neat. Installed a 4GB RAM stick, so total RAM is now 6GB. Installing Windows 10 on the 320GB HHD I got for free earlier, using the media creation tool for Windows 10 off a bootable USB drive.
No hard drive caddy? No problem, just get some foam!

Just installed Windows 10 now, I used the Windows 7 Pro key on the sticker on the underside and it seems to have worked fine so that's neat. Also fun fact, this Thinkpad seems to have come from Singapore because it said so on the sticker. Now it is downloading and installing the various drivers and updates I'm gonna need for this to work. So far, nothing is "broken".. except for my right Control key because my friend who was helping me kinda broke it trying to pull the keyboard out, lol whoops. Oh well.
Stuff to get soon: the red nub, SSD off Amazon whenever the Black Friday sales come around, a proper hard drive caddy, Expresscard to USB 3, new battery if needed, new keyboard if needed (off eBay).
Stuff to do now: install whatever else I need on this thing.
So the buttons on the tablet screen won't work with Windows 10 running even though I've installed all of the updated drivers found on Lenovo's website. I've searched online about x201 Tablet users running Windows 10 and they have run into similar issues back in 2015 so I don't think it has been fixed any time soon. Maybe I should downgrade to Windows 7 Pro instead so all of the buttons actually work.
I just beat my own record of "most fragmented drive" again

the ones that take 10 minutes to get fully bright? my mom had those in the bathroom and i hated going in there at night

OK so I updated Windows 10 to the latest (I assume anniversary update) and the tablet buttons seem to work fine now. The problem now is that the touchscreen no longer works. Ugh. Well this is annoying. Do I have to get the pen or something for it to detect it and for the touch screen to work or something like that?
edit: installed the drivers for the touchscreen that was originally supported for Windows 7 and it seems to have fixed it.
edit: nvm it didn't fix it, ugh.
edit: found a thread that mentioned installing the Wacom drivers and it has fixed it. Yay.
I think the battery on my mum's Note 4 is a bit fucked :v:

yo hardware nerds, i need to do a basic arduino circuitry presentation to teach people how to do it at a high level
i'm thinking discussion of resistors, potentiometers, pull-down/pull-up resistor, going high and low, LED mechanics
oh and i need to create my presentation today
Why didn't I start using OneNote for my school notes pretty much immediately?
I get to incorporate relevant memes to my notes when it's digital.

Never wait for Facepunch when you need to be quick about something. Never works.

oh i'm not waiting for FP i just don't have the time to do it until 3 hours before i need to give the presentation
Am I the only person who wants to see a tablet or ultrabook that has like, a Core M and a similar ultra-low-power-but-still-full-architecture dedicated GPU on it? I think it would be fun. Like basically a Core M and the graphics unit of a tegra x2.

How simple are we talking? I'd discuss the components you just mentioned and add onto that some basic UART stuff. Also worth talking about is the ADC in the arduino with stuff like resolution and precision. Moving from there i'd discuss PWM and say something about duty cycles.

also im no arduino pro, i just know the basics

The instruction set to run both x86 and ARM on the same device might be a little much for a Core M. Wouldn't the graphics chip have to be emulated to an extent?

Who said anything about ARM? He just wants a low-power Core M with a beefy GPU

I'm not talking about literally put an x2 in there, just something around the performance level of the graphics chipset in it, no sense in adding the Cortex part.
The instruction set to run both x86 and ARM on the same device might be a little much for a Core M. Wouldn't the graphics chip have to be emulated to an extent?
Graphics processors don't run the architecture of their CPU. They use their own proprietary instruction set - usually one designed for high parallelism. VLIW designs are popular. The drivers contain a cross-compiler to turn intermediate shader code into that specific ISA.
Also, modern Tegra uses the same graphics architectures as the desktop GeForce. Tegra K1 uses Kepler - it's not quite identical to any desktop chip, but it's like a GT720 with a bit less texture and ROP hardware.
So part 1 of that giant shipment from the Philadelphia International Aiport showed up today.
It's all i7-2600's. Are those still considered good for rigs? I really want to take one, out it an a new board, and call it my rig. Worth it over a skylake i5 or not?
