The facepunch and linux need more opacity.
Looks blurry and the text is running off the screen...
I know what you mean. For the text, it is supposed to be aligned with the right side. However, it is in fact one pixel over. Amazing what a single pixel can do to a look. However, it isn't a serious attempt, so I am not going to bother to fix it. Anyway, it is time to work on branding, so all wallpaper creation should be halted indefinitely. Following is one quick concept. It should not be used as the final logo, as it implies a connection to Half-Life 2. Although this distro actually does have a connection (FPLin -> Facepunch -> GMod -> HL2 Mod -> HL2), it is a bit of a stretch. Also, keep in mind I am no wizkid with the pen/path tool, so imagine the foot was actually done well: It shows reference to Facepunch and Linux without directly using the logos. It should be a good example to follow when more serious entries are made. As for me, I don't have any miraculous ideas at the moment for the branding. Feel free to share any ideas!

Try and simplify video driver installation.

Having to justify everything is getting incredibly annoying, though. One shouldn't have to say "there's a fart in the startup sound because it represents the clearing of the air that will exist in the world of linux distros after this is released" or "there's a piece of turd as our network connectivity monitor because it signifies my router which I hate". Get over it, it'll end up limiting.
It's not like you make something random then try and justify it. You think of the concept first and see where that gets you. If it ends up being good you then actually make it. If you're just going to be butthurt get out.

FPLinux game is almost ready for a beta release. Done yesterday: * Battle system ( with a lot of help from danharibo, thanks! ) * Experience system * Area system, there are only two areas so far though, The city "General Discussion" and a dungeon referred to by the locals of General Discussion as "The OIFY". TODO List: * Fix random number generator, it fucks up here and there * Coin system - easy to implement * Item system - Might be a tad difficult to implement. * Shop - Easy to do once item system is implemented

Fear the noxns!
Shouldn't the P be on line with the F?
:v: Also, I love the amount of detail you put into the stats, Extrems!
what
what
the descriptions (although I'm guessing he probably didn't write those)
I
Wewt. This is quite familiar but still unique. I like it. Although, i would suggest you to write 'FP' in capital letters and round some corners on the foot here and there. If nobody's got anything to worse to say about it, i spose i'll declare this to be our working logo. And now onto the next step: Colors, Fonts and other branding related stuff. I'd like the art team to shoop up something like this: Done it with paint to avoid influencing your design ideas, but i hope you get the idea. You choose: -Text Color -Background Color -Font -Text position/alignment -Other layout elements such as lines, curves, glowing stuff, shadows etc. Obligations: -Make it fit to the logo as good as possible -Fair amount of contrast please, but not too much -Make it scalable to virtually any size (We need different sizes for wallpapers, website, GUI etc.) -Use fonts that are available on the internets for free so the whole team can work with it -You might like certain layout elements, however, for the sake of the good looks, refrain from putting any unfitting elements in. Just throw it in the thread for WIP or critics or pm me.

Actually, Tu154M, let's not jump on that logo so quickly. It was just a quick concept. For example, imagine the Facepunch logo in place of the penguin foot that I posted. Then, put Lin or the foot where Fp is. That is two more possibilities right there. And that is assuming we want to use the Half-Life 2 logo theme! However, there is a much more pressing branding issue to resolve. Are you guys sure that you want to name this distro after Facepunch? We can create a whole new, independent identity. That way, it can be equally approachable to anybody. In addition, then we can go much more crazy with art. Because, let's face it, we aren't going to make a Facepunch distro composed of colors such as yellow or green. Unless it is OIFY themed. As another topic altogether, nice job Denzo! Maybe we can have the game play in the foreground while the distro is installing! Better than a loading bar, for sure. Or, an even crazier idea, have the loading bar in the game. Not as an actual bar, but perhaps your character's life. As the installation gets closer to completion, your character gets closer to death. When your distro is ready, your friend, is well... you know.
Double post
Have a look at this extremely aliased (especially for the text) iteration of your wallpaper http://imgkk.com/i/5w1iey1.png That's kind of what I was thinking for colors. Lacking the PSD/whatever there's obviously very little I can do.
The colours and design of that wallpaper are atrocious.

Also, you should chill down on the art a bit until we (birkett) finish(es) a proper distro.
The colours and design of that wallpaper are atrocious.
*points at HubmaN* And in case you didn't notice, I wasn't suggesting the actual colors. I was suggesting that he uses colors that aren't incredibly contrasted.

Now it rambles off paragraphs... It was Extrems, who did this to keep Wintia from talking in the main channel, disturbing on-topic discussions.
Can't be arsed to program today lol.
Hey birkett, if you want to fuck around with implementing my game in the installer so it's possible to play it while it's installing, here's the latest build of my game. Linux binary: http://denzor.org/files/fplinuxgame -> Right click and save as.. bla bla Windows binary: http://denzor.org/files/FPLinuxgame.exe Sources: http://denzor.org/files/main.cpp http://denzor.org/files/monster.cpp http://denzor.org/files/monster.h http://denzor.org/files/player.cpp http://denzor.org/files/player.h
Fucking forums.
I know this is a bit earlier for something like this, but for the loading screen I was thinking something like the platform on the game being the loading bar, like so: Roughly. I did this in about 5 minutes.
