I totally didn't rip out aptitude from a Debian install, then get it working on Gentoo. Ahmmm. Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipkg
Running WINE/Steam and Gmod right out of the box is a great idea, and seems like a no-brainer... Great concept, and shouldn't be to hard to accomplish. I can make facepunch wallpapers tailored to the distro. I can also theme for GTK.
I can do C++ / GTK / SDL / Assembly programming if needed. I suggest doing something similar to BSD ports.

gah triple post
I can do Python (with Qt), shell and some basic C/C++. I can quickly learn GTK+.
Added all the guys who are standing out to me to their respective teams. This doesn't mean its too late to join! Updated the OP with a bit more information, looking to have a rootfs ready to build upon by this weekend (2nd / 3rd)
Seriously birkett, I'd love to join the Art and Media team. I know my way around Photoshop extensively.
Hell, I think I might go in for Art and Media. I'm not PMing because you probably don't want a thousand people saying that. I have experience in Photoshop/AVID (because AVID jobs bring in the cash)/Final Cut Studio and Shake(because they make life fun)/Flint-Fire-Flame-Inferno/Cinelerra. Hell, I do some vector work in Illustrator and Inkscape sometimes.
Since Linux has different types of animals (mainly birds) on theire packages...how about a lovely clourfull budgie? to express the mixture of packages?
Because it'd look like Twitter.
Recording... added, HubmaN added. Do we have anyone with experience cross compilling?

Oh, wow, thanks!
When you say 'our own' distro, what exactly is going to make it unique, or different from the rest?
i would like to know this as well
fortune spits out mikfoz quotes.
Still figuring that one out myself tbh.
Actually, there was a point a while ago about getting it up and running GMod quickly. Will it be possible to bundle proprietary drivers?
I can do web design, and I'm willing to host a forum for this. I can also help distributing it if it will be released ( I have a 100Mbit FTTH connection, I could seed this if we were distributing this through torrents and I can set up a private FTP for fast distribution to team members/FP'ers ).
If you want another art guy, im your're man :D In a couple weeks that is, i finish university on the 15th If you want some sample stuff let me know
Had a revelation. My idea for the distro, would be like any other distro, however make it come already installed with wine/tricks + steam, and being pretty much able to play gmod out of the box. Another idea would be also to have the option during installation to either choose a gmod client or server set-up. I know a lot of people have problems setting up gmod linux servers due to no linux bins, but if we can make it be pretty much set-up out of the box could be our niche. The sever option would obviously come with steam and wine aswell but srcd aswell as maybe a less attractive and less memory using DE, as well as less other programs which the normal client would have install? Also the option to make it CLI only? I don't know, just kinda brainstorming here.
Actually, the idea of supporting windows games and server hosting out of the box would actualle be a nice touch. Here's hoping for they're using a low power desktop environment, that's also user friendly
Also, for that matter, which desktop environment/s are we going to use out-of-the box? I'm going for fucking up people with CDE. Or Enlightenment. Or Looking Glass (while it still lasts).
I'd vote for Xfce, Gamers would want a lightweight desktop that doesn't use much memory and is easily customizable. Since our target users would be Gamers who are experienced with computers, we also should include something like Conky by default with a nice FP-themed .conkyrc ( I could make one ).

Either KDE 4 or the latest stable Xfce release for desktop enviroment. would be brilliant if you could put both on the installation cd/dvd, and make it possible to choose desktop enviroment under installation.
No DE as default. One can be selected from the installer. That's my vote anyway. For discuccion later on. Proprietry drivers: I'm going to say not by default. Options available in the installer. Denzo - added to the web team - which is now full.
No DE as default. One can be selected from the installer. That's my vote anyway. For discuccion later on.
sounds good, But what choices do we get at desktop enviroments?
sounds good, But what choices do we get at desktop enviroments?
I'd say KDE, Gnome and Xfce, to make less complicated. More choices would just hog the disk and make it more complicated.
