So whats the progress on this? 50%-75%? I am looking forward to it. Something different than ubuntu would be nice.
100mbps upload per server. Fine.
Now let's imagine there's just 10 sites used on one server any given time and bandwidth is distributed equally. Gives you 10mbps.
Now have 20 people downloading at a time. 512kbit/s. That's not the speed you'd want to download a linux distribution with.
If you use 10mbps in a month month, you'll have ~ 26 297 438.3 megabits per month.
One megabit is 1/8 of a megabyte. That's ~ 3 287 179.7875 megabytes per month.
So you have ~3.1 terabytes of bandwidth per month.
:v:
Unlimited storage technically doesn't exist, but storage is cheap so they'll have plenty.

I'd kill to have 512kb/s download speeds.

I meant that a mirror that can only provide 512 kbit/s download speed for every user is mediocre.

In this case at least

I get 128kbps. So do lotsa people I know. And I doubt this is going to be that popular that it'll need to constantly support 20 downloaders when there are other mirrors. As for Sites:Server I don't know. But its fast for me. :v:
Took the time to enquire.
Thank you for you interest. Approximately there are up to 300 accounts per server as it guaranties the best performance for all users.
:v:
Who won't be active all the time of course, better you do a few speed tests.
So is anyone gonna tell me what the progress on the distro is? Is it complete? Ughhh time to lurk back a few pages. :geno:

I'm very glad the project is progressing. Although I contribute nothing to its production, I love the shit out of this thing.

Even before you even know anything about it. But it says facepunch, so hey, worth a try!

If you CD D:\ then I'll tell you.
I'm really looking forward to this, makes me want to go back into Linus distros again. Even tho this won't be anything amazing it's still interesting to see it's progress. Also, I can probably be another mirror. You don't need to worry about brandwidth or anything. Since the web-server is at my friend's place. We host it ourselves, to save money. And he got a pretty nice upload, enough at least. 24 mb/s fiber. It's pretty fast actually.

But how does it go for 100 people downloading at once? Or maybe 200?
But how does it go for 100 people downloading at once? Or maybe 200?
We won't be getting 100 or 200 users downloading it in the life of the project, so i don't see that being an issue.
Either that, or I have grosly underestimated the popularity of this.

Well, if it manages to do well, we could make a lot more than that, but certainly it's no worry right now. ^^

Well, maybe you're right (although i believe you HAVE underestimated the popularity), but it's always better to be safe then sorry, right?

We're talking about 100 downloads at once here. Mozilla's FF even hardly gets that except when they're bringing out a new version or something.
Uh, no I wasn't.
But he was..

Then don't quote me. I don't think we'll like ever get more than 3 or 4 at once.
I didn't say that it'd get that many at a time. I was asking about it, because it's always best to be on the safe side.

That's true, but still....
Just as a heads up, I may be distracted by development for Mani Admin Plugin in the weeks running up to christmas. I trust this will give everyone enough time to actually submit some artwork, programs for inclusion, the python scripts that we discussed on IRC, and a draft for the website.
I really want to have something out the door after christmas, but if thats to happen - I NEED ALL OF THE ABOVE. At the moment, this small community project is a 1 man team, with some useful input from Tu154m.
I know for a fact its not due to lack of interest, just that nobody is willing to add something. Get all of your work to me as early as possible for review... please!
Python scripts? Tell me more, I might be able to help out.
I can do some HTML and CSS work for the website if need be. I'm far from perfect, but I can make something simple that's clear and works. Would need to do additional work if you wanted IE support, although I doubt any of us here under Linux use it.
Just say specifically what you need and I'll get it done.
Like:
Installer Background
800x600, 1280x1024, 1600x1200
Use Styleguide.

Batch Installer
Python Script
Python v. 2.6
See where I am going with this? It just is a lot easier when it is specified exactly what you guys need. Right now, the only specific thing I know about is the style guide, which people are still up in arms about.

List now available in the OP
Fight amongst yourselfs to finish a logo. Use that and the style guide to decide the rest of the art.
Everyone pick a task (one at a time), ill assign it to you. Ill keep adding items to the list that need working on.
