IF I knew how to make .deb files, as I'm a complete and utter Linux n00b, I'd help you with Greasemonkey. I tried Ubuntu via Wubi, and I just found it completely confusing. Like in Windows, setups are in .exe or .msi, in Linux they're in .deb etc and it's damn confusing. You have to use the console to install stuff and figure out how to make yourself admin ON YOUR OWN COMPUTER.
Other than that, Linux is cool, and it's free, and it works...
yerr doin' it wrong
I'm not sure what you're doing, but you're doing it wrong. A deb is just as easy to install as an msi and a hell of a lot easier to make. Assuming you've got a desktop environment with your Ubuntu, you double click it then press install. Didn't know that was confusing. And what do you mean figure out how to make yourself admin on your own computer? That's identical to the Windows 7 process with the UI. In the command line it's 2 or 4 letters. You can use
su
if you to be root for a few things or
sudo command
if you need just one action. Some operating systems don't allow you to be root because they think you'll break it though, which is why you use sudo. I'm pretty sure Ubuntu stopped doing that with 9.10 when they added in the root terminal as a program.
Hope this is still going on.

Currently there's not much progress, if any at all. Consider it "on hold".
So... How far? I'd love to try this, y'know.
when it's done
Seeing as nobody seemed interested in doing anything but make wallpapers, consider it on indefinite hiatus.
Just made two new backgrounds.
I call them "Simplicity".
I call them shit.

Back when I was helping you it was more like people seemed interested in doing prett much everything except actually helping with the distro and kernel and shit which pretty much nobody can {do|be bothered with} except you.
I thought this died.

I thought you died.

I get that a lot.
Lesson of the day, a bunch of teens on a forum cannot make an operating system.
But they can make shit-ton of wallpapers.
I doubt that many of the actual team are teens.
That is true for a lot of posters here though.
amazing how so many people can get a LFS installation up and to a usable state in a few weeks
I could help with Art and Design if needed. I honestly would love to see this.
Is this dead? :frown:
unfortunately it probably is. I'd like to see some continuation on the project though
Still got some idea juices flowing. But I don't have the resources to build and maintain a full distro. If this came to life, it would prolly end up being a theme / wallpaper pack.
Dunno if SUSE Studio has been mentioned here, but it seems like a quick and painless way to slap the Facepunch logo on a Linux distro
:frown: I'll help in any way I can, as a graphics person or small stuff do-er.

What'd be the point of that?

throw some codecs in and we have mint
[editline]18th October 2010[/editline]
or hell we could distribute a shell script and tar file that does everything on an existing installation of Debian. it would be different at least. build it with a generic kernel and some drivers and shit would be good

This is actually a really good idea. There's no way we can make an entire huge project like this. Let's use SUSE Studio, gather all the repositories and packages we want and shove in some facepunch apps/wallpapers/themes.

most of us are totally capable of installing Gentoo, LFS isn't a far stretch. cooking up an ISO isn't difficult either
