VFS: Could not mount root file system. Face palm?
include the small picture of captain picard facepalming, then it would be awesome.
include the small picture of captain picard facepalming, then it would be awesome.
You mean:
:ughh:
...? :ughh:
Also lol - Jesus Facepalm Back on track. Funny phrases by the system when doing important stuff...
Trying to get FUSE to work or something?
Tried booting with no initramfs, and no SCSI drivers.
Oh lawd.
I have some ideas which could be useful. ---------------- For a Startbutton-image: GMod Logo; FacePunch Logo; Awesome Face. Background image after installing: Garry's Mod screenshot; FacePunch background; The avatars and names of all who helped; Awesome Face.
Did the thread die?
VFS: Could not mount root file system. Face palm?
Oh lawl. But what about we actually define a goal for the project instead of making funny changes to error messages.
Right now, the goal is to get a basic, working system. We can build from that.
Right now, the goal is to get a basic, working system. We can build from that.
So, what are done right now?
So I'm sitting in this goddamn channel and no one is fucking here. EDIT: VLADH is here where the FUCK is everyone else? It's 4AM Pacific Standard TIME. WHY AREN'T YOU AWAKE.
I'd say KDE, Gnome and Xfce, to make less complicated. More choices would just hog the disk and make it more complicated.
+ Flux-/Openbox. Simply because some of us prefer simplicity :)
Is it feasable for both a KDE version and a GNOME version? Because I absolutely hate KDE. Xfce even more so.
Is it feasable for both a KDE version and a GNOME version? Because I absolutely hate KDE. Xfce even more so.
gnome is kinda a resource hog (well it was last time i tried a gnome). Say Birkett, how hard is it to change Desktop Enviroment on a linux installation?
gnome is kinda a resource hog (well it was last time i tried a gnome). Guys to be honest the DE isn't the main issue right now. Once we've got a solid base going then we'll try out DEs. That's my view of it anyway.
[silly idea] Awesome thing would be making live DVD with Wine and Gmod. You know, like inserting DVD into ANY comuter with DVD drive and usable CPU, graphic card etc, boot your Linux on it, and directly run GMOD. [/silly idea] Yes I know what it would take.
If this gets released, i'll use linux again.
If this gets released, I'll sell vista

Agreed with VladH. Chandler - I cant be online 24/7. It's 3:30 pm and i'm still at work.
Hey why can't I join the IRC? It says I have to be invited! EDIT: Works now.
Yeah, I'm in the channel but cannot write anything >_<
HOW TO JOIN THE FACEPUNCH LINUX IRC Assuming you have a client:

Join (or just click on) irc://irc.freenode.net/fplinux
Go to the server window, not the channel one, and type the following (where <nickname> is the name you want):

/nick <nickname>

Then register your nickname:

/msg NickServ REGISTER <password> <email>

Get the code from your email and paste it in.
Join the channel:

/join #fplinux

And you're done!
Now, every time you join, type this in the server window:
/msg NickServ identify <password>
Hope this works for you.

I can provide .de domains and an european mirror.
We might run into legal issues because of Facepunch Studios is owned by Garry. But we should also consider if the distro is source based or package based? Should we use respetories from Debian, Slackware, Ubuntu, Gentoo or Arch.
Then call it Fakepunch Linux :D I'm also for an installation procedure for Steam (webinstall ofcourse) Do you still need any staff that doesn't fiddle around with the lower-level stuff and system building?
Trashed my old Facepunch subdomain and made this: http://linux.facepunchstudios.com/
When did Facepunch give out a free subdomain?
VFS: Could not mount root file system. Face palm?
I don't think translating a few megabytes should be top priority for a new OS :downs:
Guys to be honest the DE isn't the main issue right now. Once we've got a solid base going then we'll try out DEs. That's my view of it anyway.
Shouldn't we make all the decisions before building the base system?
Do you still need any staff that doesn't fiddle around with the lower-level stuff and system building? Shouldn't we make all the decisions before building the base system?
1) You tell me. What can you do? 2) Yes and no. The base is pretty much independant of the final plans. Can build pretty much anything we want on a good base.
Don't know if that's too helpful, but I can test it on several computers (I can even install it as a production system on a homeserver that's supposed to do about everything private users could need in a network) - including three older notebooks (one of them is from 1997 IIRC) and an Intel Mac. Also, in case you ever need that, I can translate some stuff from English to German and vice versa (although I'd need to read the documentation of the translation system) and I could probably write some configuration scripts (once my remaining server parts arrive and I install everything, I'll start working on a web-based control panel for almost all routine stuff I'll do with it)
