Well, time I went back and rectified that, then. It's not an issue for me because OS X draws a drop shadow behind icons and text, but just saw it on Windows. Eh.
Am I the only one here who thinks that those effects are kinda ugly?
"kinda" more like "very".
Seems you made real progress since last night guys ;D
Thanks for all the help, Duck <3
Righto, toned down the gradient I'm using for the gradient mapping, here we are:
The one with that Rule 30 cellular automaton:

The one with the 4-step Pythagoras tree:

The one with the optimized non-periodic tiling solution:

These wallpapers look epic =]
Cosmic duck has kindly hosted the buildroot for now, more mirrors on their way soon.
What is it with you and weird periodic patterns? :v:
Thanks a lot, guys. I'm currently in the middle of an obsessive Mathematica phase - code a simple complementary color swatch thingee and you're off to the races!
I'm not part of the art team, but I got bored today and decided to do a quick "dark" wallpaper.

Request another res if you would like.
EDIT: Fixed resizing.
By the way, any ideas for versioning schemes/version names?
Also @cryticfarm Tinypic downscaled some of them.
names.
But nothing patronizing or mod-cock sucking.
I see what Tu154M meant about sorting branding quickly, though. Birkett - you might want to update the OP with details of typefaces and colors we're using. (or me and Tu154M are at the least)
Versioning will be totally rolling release.
Damn, that rules out names.
Damn, that rules out names.
Can still create milestone snapshots =]
I dunno, really, sorting this out seems so irrelevant right now :(
I'm back.
HubmaN, I am sorry to say this, but I actually dislike those wallpapers. They look great, but design-wise, they are severely lacking.
For example, the "Rule 30 cellular automaton" one has Fac on one side of the split and epunch on the other. By differentiating between two parts of text with color, there is an assumption that the two parts are mutually exclusive, but still related. For instance, if you fill in the right side with black, you are left with Fac. What does that mean? Why is it seperated from the rest of the text? At the very least, put Face on the left to show the division between the two parts of Facepunch, a compound word.
Also, in every wallpaper that was made, you included those patterns. I have a quick question: Why? It looks cool, no doubt about that. But, to put it simply, it is just kinda "there". Make it work for your design, not with. As a quick thought, you could create the title out of the pattern, or even the pattern out of the title.
As an aside, the artwork has to be composed of more colors than just red. A quick look at this website shows an abundance of grey and white, with red and blue to draw attention to important areas. Everything I have seen so far, including my quick creation, has a focus on red and white. It does not have to be that way!
I am only posting this because I am a firm believer in constructive criticism. It might be too much insight for such a little thing, but I don't care. The more criticism to go around, the better the product will be. Well, assuming everyone listens to it.
Hooray for Learning team! :D
I've mocked up a quick Steam Installer script in perl. Can anyone using a debian based Linux Distro try it out? Thanks in advance :)
Here's the script: http://pastebin.com/m360b9dfb
Just copypaste the script into a file, save as steam-get.pl and run in terminal:
perl steam-get.pl
:)
1. You should have the option not to install wine
2. Never assume permissions
For the love of god. We need a mailing list. Fuck a forum. Mailing lists are instaneous, and nearly impossible to fuck up because of a MySQL error.
A BBS would be best.
Could I join the art department? Here's something I just whipped up if you want an example.
A BBS would be best.
No it wouldn't. BBS take a few days to propogate across the different DNS servers around the world, so by the time you get the message there could be several hundred responses. Take a look at google groups. A google group is a mailing list. a BBS is a mailinglist as well but slower.

A brush and the Birth Of A Hero typeface aren't going to do much.
A brush and the Birth Of A Hero typeface aren't going to do much.
Yes, but after all it does look good. The composing is good, he didn't filter raep and it doesn't give you eye cancer. Okay from my POV. But birkett will have to decide.

Damn your good. :clint:
Hey Birkett could you PM me about jobs etc? Thanks.
