You'd be surprised, there were some benchmarks which showed a 5970 going from 80FPS to about 30
Oh derp, I thought you meant on an Nvidia card.
You're right in that Google does not solve all your problems, but in some cases you can easily google it and find your answer instead of wasting your (and our) time in posting a thread. Imagine a thread asking how to remove anti-virus 2010. There are tens of thousands of threads on the internet with people who have the same problem and if you would take a few minutes of your time, you could easily find the answer, instead of letting others do that work.
Its totally optional to post in a thread on Facepunch. So if you waste time posting in a thread, its 100% your fault. So that isn't even a valid argument. Also, Facepunch is one of the best IT support forums I've ever been to. I would come here over any other site. Also, its not wasting your time. You just post a thread, leave, and either come back in a few hours and take a minute to check or whenever is convenient for you. Rather than sitting at Google cruising through a series of links to find one answer.
The 6870 produces significantly less heat, and requires significantly less power. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2010/10/22/ati-radeon-hd-6870-review/9 As far as PhysX is concerned, I doubt it would make a large enough impact to nullify the heat and power differences.
PhysX is overrated anyways. I've yet to see it being used in a way that actually makes a game look more realistic.
Heat and power shouldn't be issues so long as you have a decent case and PSU. The 470 still uses less than 350W under full load which is well below your average 650W PSUs output

Performs the same as a 470, is cheaper, less hot under load, etc. also PhysX is as gimmicky as it can get, the only game I saw use PhysX fully was Arkham Asylum, and it didn't make the game fucking amazing.
Youtube benchmarks prove nothing
>Implying that benchmarks are different than benchmarks Benchmarks are benchmarks. Get over it, you can use PhysX on your CPU and ATI card without a massive drop in performance.
>Implying that benchmarks are different than benchmarks Benchmarks are benchmarks. Get over it, you can use PhysX on your CPU and ATI card without a massive drop in performance.
a Fraps video with no framerate indicator consisting of a guy spinning around in a car for 3/4 of the video with no real gameplay and no showing of the most performance impacting feature (mass physical particles) another video that shows an i7 920 at 3.5GHz steadily dropping from an already measly 35 FPS maximum all the way down to a 17 FPS average. that must be enjoyable [editline]28th October 2010[/editline] Mafia 2 is only playable (playable as in having long shootouts with lots of debris) without an NVIDIA GPU is to completely remove all of the physical particles which is really the biggest thing with PhysX in the game.
Even nVidia cards drop below 20 FPS. Also, if you weren't blind, you can see a framerate in the top right corner of the second video. PhysX is still no argument for buying nVidia.

That benchmark does not include PhysX. New link please.

My mistake, didn't see it.
Off-topic, but go to your Mafia II folder, then edit, then APEX, then cloth, and
Delete all files (backup), except for those starting with “VIT*“, and files named “m2skeleton” and “ClothRemapTable“. This is a place near Vito’s house – running around 20-25 fps previously, thanks for those NPC womans skirts. After tweak – 60+ fps.
Disables all cloth effects on NPCs except for Vito all other physics effects are still enabled. Now you can keep APEX on high and not experience massive framerate drops! PhysX is worth it as far as I see.
Rocks flying in my screen whenever a wall gets shot? No thanks. Still not a good argument for nVidia. OP, just get the 6870. Save your money and use it for something else. It would be stupid not to buy a 6870 at its current price.

They are very similar in benchmarks & price if you feel you want the physx and cuda then get the 470 if you have need for anything ATI such as eyefinity go for that card but at the moment there is not much difference between them other then there additional extra features.
It's really down to what the OP chooses between: Better drivers on average, CUDA and PhysX or Eyefinity, lower power consumption and cheaper Because if I remember correctly they both perform more or less the same, depending on the game.
So you're basically saying that you should let others do the googleing?
In some cases, yes.
It's really down to what the OP chooses between: Better drivers on average, CUDA and PhysX or Eyefinity, lower power consumption and cheaper Because if I remember correctly they both perform more or less the same, depending on the game.
I'm don't prefer one brand over another, but nVidia cards now support something like eyefinity now - it's called nvidia surround. just fyi. but I guess I am wrong.
Note that crossfire is much better with the new 6800 cards, nothing lower than 90% scaling on the benchmarks i've seen.
I'm don't prefer one brand over another, but nVidia cards now support something like eyefinity now - it's called nvidia surround. just fyi.
NVidia surround requires 2 cards iirc.
I'm definitely getting the 6800 series over the NVidia, it seems more cost effective and I definitely like ATI's service over NVidia's.
