• How often do you defragment your computer?

Once a week or so.
I don't defrag - I use JFS which (if you don't fill your disk up too much) never really gets fragmented much anyway.
JFS is really great for NAS boxes. :D
Haven't tried JFS yet... what are the perks of using it over Ext4?
I'm running two intel 80GB SSDs, what is this defragmentation you speak of? :smug:
Never. I use Btrfs. NTFS you so silly.
Hey, this reminds me, I should go defrag...
Ummm... What exactly does defragging do?
I haven't defragged for about a year now and My computer is still running fast.
Never. I use Btrfs. NTFS you so silly.
Is Btrfs really usable yet? And any advantages for desktop use?
Is Btrfs really usable yet? And any advantages for desktop use?
btrfs has been usable for a long time. it's not really any better than xfs, jfs, etc.
Never.. SSDs ftw.
once a month, that was after I killed 2 HDD due to doing to much.
Ummm... What exactly does defragging do?
It takes files that aren't in one piece (fragmented) and puts them back together, speeding up access to the file.
Very rarely, I usually end up reformatting before I defrag.
Everybody in here who owns a Vista or 7 computer defrags automatically because that's what Windows does.
NTFS and FAT are the only two filesystems in the world with major fragmentation problems.
You sure about that, Dr. Filesystem Expert?
I've never defragged this year, takes WAY too much time
Once every 20 minutes.
mine auto defrags every week by default.
Once in a week.
At least once a month, or if I notice a performance slump.
After its fragmented to 10%, since it then recommends you to do it.
every week
When I think my computer is slowing down. It's been 6-7 months since last defrag and currently After Effects and Fraps are running as they should, no slowdowns.
Every night from 5 am, desktop is always on anyway and that is when I am asleep
if i am inactive for 30 minutes it starts defragging
Once every couple of weeks, along with a registry defrag + clean
Once everytime i see a thread about it.
Never. I use ext4 like many other smart folk in this thread
Am I the only one that uses Diskeeper and never has to worry about defragging (just like decent filesystems)? D:
