Defragment later today or wait for Win7 Enterprise trial to end so I can format and install Win7 Home Premium. Hmm.
I just leave it on auto and forget all about it.
What, no they don't. As long as you're using NTFS, fragmentation is going to slow your computer down.
guess I don't use Windows enough then. I have no issues with sluggishness.
I din't defragmentated in the last year or 2 (end up formatting to often anyway) But then i saw this Whats the windows 7 default on Defragmentating ?
I never rely on the windows defragger as the scheduled tasks sometimes get missed and there is no proper defrag progress visual. Since Vista I am using an automatic defragger, so I dont need to remember to defrag anymore.
guess I don't use Windows enough then. I've never defragged my computer...
I've never defragged my computer...
What
Whenever I remember to defrag.
Whenever I can be arsed up to remember before going to bed.
Yep.
Usually when I think I can do with a clean up, I uninstall shit I don't need, delete stuff I don't need, run CCleaner then Defrag.
I just got a screensaver that does it for me Awesome
I only do it when I notice a preformance slump, which isnt too often. Kinda wondering if its worth it to shell out some $$$ to buy a SSD.
Kinda wondering if its worth it to shell out some $$$ to buy one.
No, paid ones don't do anything free ones can't.
No, paid ones don't do anything free ones can't.
This. I paid out the ass for Diskeeper 7 and 8... until I found Auslogics. They have 3 different versions of their defragger: Screensaver Defrag (installer) Disk Defragmenter (installer) Disk Defragmenter Portable (just an .exe file, great for USB toolkits) I use the screensaver one myself, use the portable one for maintenance when I work on machines, and install the "installable" version for other people, setting it to auto.
Quick Defrag once a week (Can't go wrong with piriform tools), full defrag once a month.
Once every week or two. It honestly takes about 5 minutes for a full 1TB defrag.
No, paid ones don't do anything free ones can't.
Wrong - look at Intelliwrite in Diskeeper 2010. It does a very good job at preventing fragmentation in writes, just like many linux filesystems. I do agree that generally paid defragmentation apps don't do anything free ones can't, but Diskeeper (at least the newer versions) certainly does. Also 'invisitasking' is a huge step up from the screensaver-based approach - much more like the online defrag in good linux filesystems.
Defragment later today or wait for Windows 7 Enterprise trial to end so I can format and install Windows 7 Home Premium. Hmm.
Nevermind, apparently Windows 7 is set to defragment every wednesday at 3 AM.
Purchase Enterprise Serial.
Why? I already have Home Premium purchased, and Enterprise is a business version of Windows 7, I don't really care about it. Reason I have Enterprise trial is because it is the only trial available.
Did just defragment my school laptop for the first time in 1 year.
Not very often, I always forget to do it. Don't like scheduling neither because then it will get in my way
OSX Extended Journaled. I let the filesystem do it's own thing, so that'd be a "never" for me. On my W7 machine, I have O&O running in the background.
Whenever I can be arsed up to remember before going to bed.
This. Gotta love the "Shut down when finish" function :allears:
Doin' it right now.... :q:
I haven't defragged mine very often, I guess 5 times per year on this computer I have now. Last time I defragged was I guess 6 months ago. I use Defraggler and wanna know if it is supposed to be sooo slow? I have defragged my PC for total of 18 hours during 3 days and still 50% fragmented. I don't wanna use quick things because they give speed at the cost of something else.
Whenever I randomly decide to do cleaning.
Never, I have an SSD, and you don't defrag those; that defeats the wear-leveling features.
i defragment my files manually :haw:
2 - 3 times a week using Defraggler. [editline]07:46PM[/editline] Though never bothered to ever defrag my laptop. Think I'll go do that now.
