You have a stepping issue it is easy to fix you either A) get a new CPU B) see if disabling cool n' quiet will fix the stepping
Try that the other way round A) see if disabling cool n' quiet will fix the stepping B) get a new CPU
that, and Canada.. anyway, im done for tonight cheers
We are under a commonwealth so it might be us.............. New Zealands is shit to so I think it is us commonwealths!
I just wanna know if turning off the Cool N' Quiet will cause my CPU to overheat. If not, I'll try it.
it won't
it won't
Alright. Well, me and a friend of mine wanna know what you mean by it could be a "stepping issue".
FIXED Well, Normal gaming, a 9600 GT does great, It ran Crysis @ High no problems for me. 1680x1050 with a voltmod so my clocks are: 820/2060/1200 (Core/Shader/Memory) If you wanted to be UB3R then of course get a GTS 250, fantastic card. Another 8800 GTS Re branded with a 55nm refresh, as well as a die size change, and you good to go!
The GTS 250 is just a rebranded 9800GTX+, and a 4870, which eats its lunch, runs around the block, and then punches it in the face, costs $7 more on Neweegg. [editline]02:23AM[/editline]
well.. he likes low res stuff... Regardless, the 1GB is a better investment. [editline]05:55AM[/editline] Go away faggot Jk But, yeah its the best free one. Microsoft's New Free anti virus is like government health care .__.
A) The 1GB GTS 250 is a horrid investment. The performance increase just isn't there over the GTS 250, it's still outperformed by the 512MB 4870, and for $7 more, you can get a 4870 1GB. B) No. I'm pretty sure MS's anti-virus will be just fine, and don't bring the health care debate in here.

ATi cards really aren't that bad, I don't know why they have that reputation. They do get hot yeah, but it's not too much to but an aftermarket cooler for like $20 is it? I've had an HD4850 for months now and had not a single problem. It overclocks very well, too.

both nvidia and ati cards are fine
Oh, and FightForCherno has already made an epic mark here in PCH&S. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=766372 He posts this, and when EVERYONE tells him to choose an AMD build, he bitches about how they aren't helping.
I am going to write a guide on a site for a good gaming computer ~1000 What do you guys think of the one ^ To me, it sounds good. Notes: I don't really want to use AMD CPU as i have no experience with them since K6. (good ol' 350nm.. heh) I am an NVIDIA Fanboy, but i decided to go with the 4870 as no doubt about it, it's a fantastic card. My friend's got the HD 4870X2 and it's hella fast.
I provide benchmarks about the PII 940/955, and he tells me that I'm not listening and need to get out. I tell him that he can get a nicer graphics card on his build by switching to a PII, and he says he's willing to accept the cost of sticking with Intel. 3 people put up builds in the thread. I put up
https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/publicWishDetail.aspx?wishlistnumber=15864787 Gigabyte mobo, PII 940, 4870 X2, 4GB DDR2 1066 550W PSU, Antec Three Hundred, 500GB WD HD, LG DvD burner, Vista HP $1,020 before TS&R. If you want to switch it around a bit, swap out the 4870 X2 for a pair of 4770s in Crossfire and change the 940 to a 955.
within mere hours of the first post. Later that day, another person puts up an Intel build (wish list now empty), but ragequits the thread when FightForCherno and I criticize it. A few hours later, JohnEdwards puts up this
955+ 790GX + DDR3 1066 CAS 5 is much better and probably cheaper [editline]10:17PM[/editline] http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227293 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.211664 get that
but obviously OP has no desire to get AMD CPUs, even though two posters have now shown him that an AMD build could eat a $1,000 Intel build's lunch. Oh, and in this thread http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=768185 he claims to be an alt of an 05'er who's been permab&. PacificV2 shows up on page 3 and tells the world that he's an alt of 2 permab& 08'ers. I'm thinking, but this is quite a loose estimate, that he may be an alt of Luke-NAESA, a known Nvidia fanboy, matched only by the legendary darkride196.
Well, John. It didn't work. Still doing it. You see, my parents believe I've spent too much money already on fixing this thing, and forcing me to get a new system. So that's why I have no choice. My friend is telling me I should get an Intel instead of an AMD. What do you guys say about that?

Brand loyalty will get you nowhere, right now ATI is better, but if you really want a Nvidia card, just get a 9800 GTX, or a 260. You'll spend more, but you know, its what you want.
Yeah if you go and have a look at benchmarks the 4890 bets the 260 by heaps of frames! For Nvidea Fanboys [sp] If you really wanna know Ati is better these days and value for money [/sp]
The 4890 is so totally not worth it.
Gxt275 > 4890
The 4890 is so totally not worth it.
Well yeah I just wanted to put it on there. Really funny $50 more to get a 4890 and there is only 2fps increase on it compared to the 4870!
Good god, what happened to my thread? All I asked was for build help, and it's full of two pages of; "NVIDIA sux! Get ATi!" "NO! Get Nvidia!" Did I ask to be criticized that I have had an Nvidia card ever since I had a FX 5200? I don't really consider myself a fanboy, but everyone I have talked to prefers nvidia. Even the guy that built my system said to stay away from ATi cards. I don't even know if you guys are talking about my thread anymore. PrismatexV3 is talking about the guy that has been defending me. Nothing about this thread. Now. Will you kindly, please, get back to helping me out, so I'll have a base to save up on?
Even the guy that built my system said to stay away from ATi cards.
:ughh: That's how all this crap starts in the first place.
Stay away from ati cards? :cawg: Wow I've had my 4870(512mb) since release hasn't slowed down one bit. Don't listen to that dumb ass, He doesn't know what he's talking about.

If it was when the ATi 3xxx series then that's probably why he said that as they weren't a good competitor to Nvidia's 8xxx series. But now they've improved by far. Nvidia has a better name as they have always had decent cards, ATi have only really just pulled their finger out. They have stuff like GDDR5 memory whilst nvidia is still using GDDR3 and ATi are starting to use 40nm. We're trying to help here. Depending on your budget I'd recommend an ATi 4870 or Nvidia 275 GTX. The ATi 4870 is better bang for buck. As for your CPU try and get your hands on a Phenom II a great improvement from the first series. But seriously listen to these people, especially John, he knows his stuff. Just and check Tom's Hardware for the latest ATi reviews (perhaps on the 4850-4870). [editline]05:04PM[/editline] Anyway, good luck with your build.
Even the guy that built my system said to stay away from ATi cards.
Wasn't this guy the same guy who you said talked too fast to understand when he was trying to sell you 4GB of DDR2 for $100?
XFX 4870 1gb 146$ (This is worth it, Much faster than the GTS 250.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150394 GTS 250 124$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150357&ref=dynamitedata.com
Even the 4870 512MB gives the GTS 250 a lickin'.
If you don't want a high end gaming PC, but a cheap good card for mainstream gaming go for ATI. Your fanboyism is stupid.

I have decided to just post here, since obiously I'm just going to get ridiculed for liking nvidia. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1433873 It was October 2008 when I got my new hardware upgrade.
Good.
