This is like: Would you like a Aston Martin DB9 for £1000 Or A Nissan Micra for £2500 And choosing the Micra.
:iiaca:
Oh goodness. People on the other forum are telling him to get a new motherboard and everything. [editline]12:56PM[/editline] And ZipZoomFly links. :v:
I'm just going to get ridiculed for being a cockmonger fanboy jumpin' on them there bandwagons like a good lil' sheep
fixed that for you
{...}Besides. I know nothing about building computers.
The people here are trying to help you get the best for your money, nobody is an ATI fanboy. We're recommending the 4870/50 etc. because they're tons better than the nvidia cards at the same price range.
Your being a complete idiot. The 4870 will do the job perfectly, Like n00bmuffin said, The 4870 pretty much woops all 9800 cards and lower.
My idea of the <$225 graphics card hierarchy: GTX 275 > 4890 > 4870 1GB / GTX 260 C216 > 4870 512MB > GTX 260 > GTS 250/9800GTX+ > 4850 > 9800GTX/4770 > 4830 > 9800GT
Benie, please, you are being a fanboy way more to the extent than you say we are. Do you know WHY we are saying that the 4870 is better? Is it because we are fanboys trying to rip you off, or is it because we are trying to help you get the best deal for your money. I use the 4870 1GB and play Crysis on high! I used to have an Nvidea card. It wasn't as good, but I wasn't a fanboy about ATi. You could do better with an ATi build with AMD, my build was both of those. And who has told you that Nvidea and Intel are better? AMD is a bang/buck type of CPU, and ATi is the best deal. The people who are telling you otherwise are looking at the old ATi, before they picked up their game and started succeeding in the market. No body can force you to get them, but posting ATi builds is the next best thing.
The GTS 250 is just a rebranded 9800GTX+, and a 4870, which eats its lunch, runs around the block, and then punches it in the face, costs $7 more on Neweegg. [editline]02:23AM[/editline] A) The 1GB GTS 250 is a horrid investment. The performance increase just isn't there over the GTS 250, it's still outperformed by the 512MB 4870, and for $7 more, you can get a 4870 1GB. B) No. I'm pretty sure MS's anti-virus will be just fine, and don't bring the health care debate in here.
It is a better investment for a NVIDIA user, so, no, i am NOT wrong. Thank you. Seriously you people are that stupid to go around posting "oh ati!! yay" when the OP wants a nvidia card? :dogout: Yeah, MS's Anti-virus is probably okay, but..
Depends on the price point. At certain price points, such as a $200 graphics card, an Nvidia card makes more sense.

(NVIDEA to NVIDIA)
Please get out. Nobody likes you. AMD owns ATI, yes, but most PC enthusiasts refer to AMD's graphics division as ATI, and they're still marketed as ATI cards.
Depends on the price point. I never said it was a good investment overall.
it's not that everyone that posted is an ati fanboy, it's that at the OP's budget, an ati card would have been better
Please get out. Nobody likes you. Enough about this "nobody likes you" because, guess what, NOBODY cares.
I stated that the OP wants a NVIDIA card, so yall' need to shut the fuck up unless you have something he wants to hear. WHICH IS ABOUT AN NVIDIA CARD
You were bitching at me for suggesting AMD-based builds in your thread a bit back. You told me to GTFO even though I was contributing. You seem to only listen to people who are saying what you want to hear.
Guys. Listen up! This shit's gotta stop. It's turning into a flame war. I've been thinking. You guys claim ATi is better, right? That I'm a fool for not caring that an ATi 4870 could whip the ass of a GTS 250. Maybe I am. Since the video card is causing so much hostility over these two rival retailers, how about we just "throw it away" and focus on the rest of the build? Once the time comes when I get up that much cash, then I will make my decision. If ATi is still better by the time I get the money, then I guess I'll settle with ATi. But if Nvidia comes back and better than ever, I'll definitely go with Nvidia. Alright? Can we all agree on that? Maybe this GPU madness can finally stop.

Aside from the graphics card, do: Antec Nine Hundred Phenom II X3 720 any good AM3 mobo (Well, you don't need one since you can flash your mobo's bios to use AM3, so this one's up to you. You wouldn't have to get the RAM if you did that.) 6GB DDR3 1TB HDD, Hitachi, Samsung, WD, whatever's fine
Why 6GB? Wouldn't 4GB in dual channel suffice, especially considering he has XP?
Urmm I think that RAM is tripple channel. Unless it's weird RAM which each stick is 1.5gb.
Sure, but I thought he might be better off just getting DDR3.
it's not that everyone that posted is an ati fanboy, it's that at the OP's budget, an ati card would have been better price for performance wise
Benie is the OP. Also Benie, why do you consider asking for help on Facepunch to be so 'pathetic'/a 'last resort'? Your attitude basically comes across as that...why don't you just stick with that other forum if that's how you feel.
it's not that everyone that posted is an ati fanboy, it's that at the OP's budget, an ati card would have been better price for performance wise
It depends on what happens once I get the money. [editline]05:13PM[/editline]
Benie is the OP. Also Benie, why do you consider asking for help on Facepunch to be so 'pathetic'/a 'last resort'? I feel pathetic having to craw to Facepunch for advice on what to get because I can't make my own choice. Not that Facepunch is pathetic. It was never that. Plus the reason I had went to that other forum was because I needed time to think. And they too are the same way. They say "why are you focused on getting nvidia? Get an ATi. It will be better for you". So I took some time to think, and came up with this.
a $700 build can run Crysis on high. with an ATi card....
How bout a $480 build, it does, I have one.
I just said $700 cuz that was OPs budget and he only wanted to run crysis on medium
