Can I jailbreak an iPhone 5 on 7.1?
No.
On a 4th Gen iPod Classic, can you just slap any old 1.8" hard drive in there or does it need to be the same model as the one coming out?
I bought the iPod today for $18, but the only major problem is the hard drive is clearly failing.
there's a bug with thunderbolt ports and dell displayport monitors, and it's really annoying. when i plug in my monitor, the mouse consistently skips/jumps and makes it practically unusable
but weirdly enough, just opening the monitor OSD and closing it without doing anything fixes it?
Thinking of getting a macbook air, but I'm not really sure. I had a 13" macbook pro up until a few months ago but it was stolen :/
I need something that would be good with music software, as I use a lot of that. The new macbook airs look pretty good, and it has a slightly higher resolution than the pro I noticed. I notice they don't have an optical drives but neither do the retina's, and I guess that's fine not like I ever use them anyways
any recommendations on what I should be looking for? I think the retina's are just out of my price range :/ I feel kind of uneasy about spending a lot of money on another macbook to begin with since I dropped so much not even a year and a half ago, but I don't know if I could buy another laptop after using a macbook.
what's the price difference between the air and the base retina pro where you live? i would save up tbqh. retina and Iris graphics amongst some other things are worth it
the pro isn't much heaver than the air anymore either, especially since the last update
really, i wouldn't advise anyone to buy the mac pro classic anymore, they're really clunky when you come down from using a retina pro
Is anyone else dreading the supposed OS X refresh next month? I don't want Johnny Ive's influence to spread to computers.

I feel entirely the opposite, Ive was the best thing to ever happen to Apple design wise.
I'm looking forward to it, as long as they keep the current colour scheme, but just take out all the gradients and glossy stuff. Don't know if I'd like all of iOS7's awful neon colours on OSX, but it could definitely use the flat minimal refresh.
i'm looking forward to it but i don't mind how mavericks looks at all. it looks a lot more sleek than it ever has

You wont because every other laptop except the Razer Blade has an awful trackpad compared to a MacBook and it'll drive you mad.
I agree with .Lain in that the base model rMBP is worth saving up for but if that's not manageable I would take a 13" MBA over the non-retina 13" MBP which is thick, heavy, and hasn't been updated in forever.
To be fair, the MBAs are really capable machines these days. They're a far cry from the netbook-killer they claimed to be when they launched. If that's all you can afford, you certainly won't be getting a bad machine by any standard.
you can also just use water which is what apple recommends...
is using rubbing alcohol a really bad idea?

Do you think the resolution of the 11.6in MBA and the GUI would be good enough for Word stuff? Or should I go with the 13.3in version?
I just got my moms old iPhone 4s as a backup phone incase i ever lose my Nexus 5 and since the apps are so different here (and a lot of them are super expensive, the only music players I can find that plays FLAC is 7€) so I need to know some "must have" apps including music app (incase the regular one isnt any good, i havent tested it), games, etc.
Also possible to JB it? iPhone 4s 16gb on 7.1.1.

the latest generation air right is for the 13" is 999.99 and the retina pro 13" is a good 300-350 more

the air hasn't been updated all that much either in 4 years I think, so I'm pretty iffy about that too. if I'm buying anything but the retina it seems it'll become outdated quickly, although I love how absolutely light the air is..

The Air was just updated a week or two ago... The 11" and 13" MBA has been upgraded from the i3 to the i5/i7 range. Considering everything else about the laptop's pretty much where it needs to be, they didn't do too poorly.

I'd save up for the 13.3" if it's not too much of a burden. If you need something right now, though, the 11.6" will certainly do what you need it to.
I would recommend, though, that you put away a hundred bucks or so for an external hard drive. The MBA only comes with 128/256GB of flash memory, and you might need more than that.

It's always been i5 stock, never i3. They just put in Intel's Haswell refresh which is really the same silicon on a matured process so it can run a bit faster.

it appears I'm misinformed a little bit. looking at the 2014 airs specs, they match up to the 2013 retina pro pretty well.. so I guess it's just a decision coming down to deciding between displays?

Judging what woolio1 said, I'd pretty much get the 13.3in because of the resolution it has. I wish it were the same for both but nah I guess Apple didn't want to do that.

You'll love it. My biggest complaint with my 2011 MBP is that it feels like a pile of bricks in my backpack. I wish I had something a smidge more portable.
Haswell also has much improved graphics.
Haswell refresh as in Intel's refreshed CPUs that just came out which are still Haswell because Broadwell is delayed.

Yeah, the better resolution with the MBPr is tempting.. I'm thinking if I just get a MBA though I could always buy an external monitor to have at home for all my music producing/CS/Illustrator/CAD etc needs because it's not like I could really do any of that on a 13.3" screen.
the TN panels ruin the macbook air for me

The glossy display makes it worse too.
The glossy display makes it worse too.
the macbook pro doesn't have a matte finish option anymore. it just has an anti-reflection coating

Apple hasn't done a major redesign of the Air in a while. It's not like they could really move anywhere from 1366x768 in that form factor. If they went to 1600x900 you'd have to bump the 13" one to 1920x1200 to keep users happy and then your all day battery life goes away. You have to realize that even if it made sense from a pricing standpoint, it's a physical impossibility for them to make the 11.6" the same resolution as the 13" in the current form factor. The 11.6" is 16:9 and the 13" is the saner 16:10.
We'll probably see Retina MBAs soon with the power draw of displays going down so rapidly but there's obviously going to be caveats. Apple will either have to move to a better iGPU and lose battery life or maintain battery life and reduce performance due to HW limitations on the HiDPI display. It's not going to be a rMBP quality display either. Even if it's IPS it won't be 8bit per channel and it won't be full sRGB because that's killer on battery life. The current TNs in the MBAs are actually some of the best calibrated TN panels out there, the viewing angles are the issue so that's the only improvement that will be made moving to IPS.

The MBA is great and all but I'd never try to do any serious CAD on one. Also you'd be surprised what you can do on a 13" display when you have the 13" rMBP set to "1680x1050" mode since it's rendering to an offscreen canvas at 3360x2100 and scaling down to the 2560x1600 panel which means you can fit giant workspaces and still have usable toolbars and such due to how OSX handles scaling.

yeah, how about refurbished as an option?
I see http://store.apple.com/ca/product/FE662LL/A/refurbished-133-inch-macBook-Pro-26ghz-Dual-core-Intel-Core-i5-with-retina-Display and it seems like an amazing deal. What's the major difference between this MBPr and the late 2013 one? Is it the whole Haswell processor?
I like that it has more ram and a bigger SSD for a more affordable price then a new late 2013 MBPr
no Iris graphics, Thunderbolt 1 rather than 2, slightly heaver and has a worse battery life
the HD4000 rMBP really pushes the GPU to its limits. it isn't as consistently smooth as it is with Iris graphics
