Wow, a lot of my reasons to stay on android just evaporated
As much as I prefer iOS a lot more, Android will always have more flexibility than iOS, and that's still a big reason for a lot of people
Yosemite page is up: http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/
And signed up for Yosemite beta. Honestly, I can't wait. Also, you can download the documentation for Swift through iBooks. I think I might sit down and mess with it the next few days.
The Yosemite beta is limited to the first million signups, so get in there if you want it. https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/
SMS sharing between OS X and iOS is going to keep me trapped in Apple's ecosystem forever. Also Photostream doesn't count against iCloud storage but since this new system is more permanent it looks like it will and that's a bit of a pain. Also it's interesting that they'd call their new language Swift because that was the name of the A6 core architecture. [editline]2nd June 2014[/editline]
i don't understand why you would have an audio message conversation. why not just like you know, ring them
Because whenever I call someone they want to talk about their whole damn day before they tell me what actually is important. That's why I always get people to SMS me. Now they can speak and I can hear them and it's right to the point.
The Yosemite beta is limited to the first million signups, so get in there if you want it. https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/
Signed up [editline]2nd June 2014[/editline]
Also they are phasing out the iPhone 4, I guess this means goodbye for the A4 and Limera1n
Had to happen at some point unfortunately
Also they are phasing out the iPhone 4, I guess this means goodbye for the A4 and Limera1n
The scary thing is that next year will probably mark the end of the A5 which kills the iPad 2, iPad Mini, iPad 3, iPhone 4S, and iPod Touch 5. It also will kill the 30pin for good.
most exciting updates to ios and os x i've seen yet, continuity is cool as shit
The Yosemite beta is limited to the first million signups, so get in there if you want it. https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/
Does it shut off when they reach 1m, or what?
Does it shut off when they reach 1m, or what?
Guess so: "The program is limited to the first one million people who sign up, so join today."
Holy shit iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 look great, I might actually go back to the iPhone.
If anyone here is an OS X dev... https://twitter.com/stroughtonsmith/status/473548755363713024 If you feel like forgetting the NDA I'm very curious to know what he means. Edit: I'm hearing rumblings that OS X 10.10 will wipe all iMessages on the computer. Can't confirm.
Device integration looks to be pretty killer.
I hope Yosemite is easily hackintoshable, I'm doing a PowerMac G5 to ATX conversion currently.
I hope Yosemite is easily hackintoshable, I'm doing a PowerMac G5 to ATX conversion currently.
I'm thinking a lot of the continuity features utilize bluetooth and wifi so you'll need a bluetooth card/dongle that works under OS X.
Here's the devices that iOS 8 will run on.
I'm thinking a lot of the continuity features utilize bluetooth and wifi so you'll need a bluetooth card/dongle that works under OS X.
That's not a problem, as long as I can get the core stuff like CPU SpeedStep and Sleep working with my ASUS board, then getting the right wifi card is trivial. Plus, I don't even have any iDevices yet, so there's no immediate rush. [editline]2nd June 2014[/editline] I wonder if the continuity will work on LAN, especially as the macbooks don't have it these days.
Dang. Looks like this is the last update for the 4s. Sad, too, considering I just got mine last month. Will definitely have to invest in a newer iPhone sometime next year. The 4s is a good phone, I'm just worried that it will experience performance hits akin to what iOS 7 did to the iPhone 4. It already lost a lot of performance as compared to what it was like on iOS 6 or 5. Definitely by the time of iOS 9, the iPhone 6 will have already been out for a while and will become much cheaper than what it was when it launched. I have to buy all my phones unlocked, because I'm on Straight Talk, so I don't get the carrier subsidy price of the new iPhones otherwise I'd have a 5s.
SMS sharing between OS X and iOS is going to keep me trapped in Apple's ecosystem forever.

Device integration looks to be pretty killer.
Aaaannndddddd now I'm gonna end up going from Windows 7 and a Nexus 5 to OS X and an iPhone because the features are very interesting...
Also, I am SO glad to see Apple expanding apps outside of just the current running application. The ability for developers to implement NC widgets and extend other app functionality like the sharing thing is pretty dang good! I've waited for functionality like this forever and that was one of the reasons I jailbroke my phone initially.
Dang. Looks like this is the last update for the 4s. Sad, too, considering I just got mine last month.
What were you thinking getting a 4s? Also some iOS releases increase performance, I think iOS 6 improved performance over 5

If SwiftKey keyboard makes it onto iOS, I've lost one big reason to stay on Android.
If SwiftKey keyboard makes it onto iOS, I've lost one big reason to stay on Android.
I can't see why it wouldn't
They can't call it The New iPad anymore :v:
Yes they can. It's the new iPad forever and it will get all iOS updates because it's new.
If SwiftKey keyboard makes it onto iOS, I've lost one big reason to stay on Android.
There's no legit reason for 3rd party keyboard devs to not release them for iOS now.
If SwiftKey keyboard makes it onto iOS, I've lost one big reason to stay on Android.
They already have a note taking app on iOS so I imagine the full keyboard will come soon enough
There's no legit reason for 3rd party keyboard devs to not release them for iOS now.
Exactly. Unless Apple is all tight ass'd with their App Store which they probably will. SwiftKey would make a ton of dosh on iOS.
Exactly. Unless Apple is all tight ass'd with their App Store which they probably will. SwiftKey would make a ton of dosh on iOS.
How tightly restricted can you be with a keyboard?
How tightly restricted can you be with a keyboard?
I'd imagine Apple checking over the app and making sure it doesn't record or steal the stuff you type and making sure the app is high quality and all that. It's a sensitive app to have on their app store imo.
