Do you guys think the new OS X would work on a Mid 2011 macbook air?
As far as I'm aware there's nothing that's going to be eating away at resources in the background, I think it should be fine
absolutely
Do you guys think the new OS X would work on a Mid 2011 macbook air?
System requirements are basically anything 2008 or over.
I would probably ditch Windows in a heartbeat if I could install OSX on my PC without all the tomfoolery surrounding Hackintoshing.
am i the only person that honestly just prefers using windows
i have a hackintosh set up on my pc, but i just use windows all the time
yeah

literally the only person that prefers to use windows
am i the only person that honestly just prefers using windows

Pretty much. I find OSX looks nicer, works faster, and is overall less glitchy. Not to mention is has the proper support for the Mac trackpad and shortcuts etc
OS X fullscreen sucks and it bothers me for watching movies. Gruber says it's better on 10.10. Also it still doesn't have an equivalent of HPC-HC for video playback. Those are really my only complaints though, everything else just works a lot better than Windows does for me.

Yeah soon as I heard this in WWDC I was so glad, didn't they say you get a 2 hours extra battery life too? supposedly
System requirements are basically anything 2008 or over.
I'm currently running 10.10 on a Late 08 Macbook Unibody, so I'd assume yes.
"HTML5 Netflix" is pretty much a buzzword since it has DRMs under closed binary blobs, it's still a plugin in many aspects
Well not really, it's DRM HTML5 video, it's only a plugin if you have to install it into the browser. It also doesn't eat loads of resources like a plugin allowing for longer battery life
It isn't as bad as it once was, these days you only need myHack or UniBeast, both of which should do everything to give you a daily driver hackintosh
Yeah. The only issue I had was something to do with getting it to boot without the USB using UniBeast, and buying a wireless adapter that works.
woah html5 netflix works great
Is swift key like the swiping keyboard thing in jelly bean?

Yeah, but the predictions a lot more precise.
Anybody know how to do a factory reinstall of Mavericks? I can do the "keep all your files, programs, etc" reinstall, but I can't find out how to just wipe it out and start over.

I think you need to use the install media/partition for that.
I ended up getting a retina macbook pro. Anything I should do that you guys think is invaluable? I am learning all the touch pad controls. They're really useful.

Unsure what you're going to be using your laptop for, but iTerm is by far my most used app.
Also get Homebrew, it's super useful if you spend any time at all in the terminal.

Sorry for the dumb questions but... whats actually the benefit of using iTerm instead of the normal Terminal?
Ha cool, the new Safari has the over scroll background as the web pages background so it doesn't look out of place now.

If you have a recovery partition created for the system (which is usually default), you can boot into it, wipe the drive and reinstall through the internet where it'll download it. I think you can also go through the installer in the recovery partition and opt to wipe data. Maybe not.
It's a lot easier if you have another machine or a USB drive that you drag the installer to (it's usually bootable).
Can't you use the internet recovery?
CMD + R AFAIK
The Internet recovery is integrated in the EFI firmware or something.
Sorry for the dumb questions but... whats actually the benefit of using iTerm instead of the normal Terminal?
I personally use it for the tmux integration.
Someone shared this and it ended up on my facebook feed thing. I don't know whether it's satire or just fucking pathetic, but I'll be damned if it isn't hilarious. :v:

Anyway, after catching up on WWDC through like 150 posts here I went down to MacRumors and found out the rest. I'm pretty excited to say the least. Hopefully I made it into the 10.10 public beta.

This person in the video is dumb. Apple patents so many things that never get made, it's actually incredible how many patents Apple holds that are just theoretical or even just to make sure nobody else patents a given idea. This patent doesn't mean they're developing any sort of technology that would do such a thing. Also her point about this possibly being Apple's way to connect with officials being held accountable for actions after getting bad press about Foxconn working conditions makes literally no sense.
[editline]6th June 2014[/editline]
Also I just skimmed over the patent and it has nothing to do with law enforcement outside of a mention relating to covert police. Is anyone surprised that government operatives wouldn't mind being able to disable say...the iPhone of a terrorist based on proximity before they go in and get them? I know that's a hollywood sort of example but I don't know anything about being a special agent so whatever. This has way more applications for say...disabling everything except emergency services phone calls when you're inside a movie theatre. I wouldn't agree with such a thing but that's what the intention is.
Bend it back?
The bend is way extreme, I can't bend it back.
