Does anyone here know why my iPhone thinks it's a good idea to randomly turn itself off when the battery goes below 20% and the temperature is below 5 celsius? It just randomly shuts off. With some effort (as in holding it in my hand while in my pocket to warm it up) it'll start up, and I can play music and stuff, but as soon as I open any other app it'll shut itself off within a minute of starting.
below 5 celsius? pretty sure the iphone is rated to function best in optimal conditions which do not include 5 celsius.
Some of us don't live in countries where we get constant 20 Celsius weather year round, and considering those usually have a lower quality of life I'm not unhappy about it. 5 Celsius is something to appreciate during November-April where I live in Canada. His phone shouldn't be shutting itself off in that sort of temperature.
I bought my iPhone unlocked from Apple, can I swap my SIMs around or does it lock to the first SIM?

You can swap to whatever sim you wish.

Awesome, I need to get myself a SIM whilst I'm out here in america because it's bad not having data.
Not sure if this is the right thread for hackintoshes, but here I go.
I am trying to dual boot 10.8 Mountain Lion on a computer with these specs:
Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit
Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
6GB DDR3 Ram @ 534MHz
ASUS P6T SE
ATI Radeon HD 5770 (XFX)
500 GB Hitachi Deskstar HDD & 1 TB WD Caviar HDD
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200A DVD Drive
(Also a cheap USB 3.0 card, doesn't need to work tbh)
I am having a problem with actually trying to get the installer to run on the computer. I have setup BIOS with all the necessary stuff to actually run OSX, but the computer basically says "Put in a bootable device and press any key to continue." I am using a 32GB USB Drive to install it, as I have no dual layered DVDs. I have both iAtkos and retail versions of OSX yet neither work. I don't have another Mac to use and making a virtual machine won't work.
If anyone has a way to install Mountain Lion from USB by only using Windows, that would be great.
If this isn't the right place to ask, sorry.
How did you put it on the USB? The best way is to use another Mac (which you can also do by running OSX in a virtual machine). I think you can use Transmac as well through Windows, although it's shareware so it runs as a trial http://www.asy.com/scrtm.htm and when I used it I was installing Snow Leopard so it might be different
Well, my MagSafe (1) charger is extremely doomed and I'm probaly buying a new one in a moment. (The output part of the actual charger is unjacketed and electrical tape isn't holding it together much longer).
Anyone who has any tips to protect this? (Besides all the wrapping it correctly yada yada) - I use it at school and thus idiots keep making the cable have a stupid angle. Any way to make sure it cannot do that? I saw someone who just put straps on the end.

My suggestion? Buy a newer one. I think they're backwards compatible.
DISREGARD: THEY ARE NOT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE!
My suggestion? Buy a newer one. I think they're backwards compatible.
Lol no, the new MagSafe 2 is waaay wider
Note: MagSafe 2 connectors are not backwards compatible, so you cannot use a MagSafe 2 connector with computers that do not have a MagSafe 2 port. However, you can use your older MagSafe power adapter on newer computers with a MagSafe ports by using a MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter:
I believe the difference is something alike: old one was 16v new ones are 20v thus they changed the adapter so people wouldn't destroy their computers.
Hello Mac peoples.
I have just started using OSX 10.8 and I am wondering how to refresh a page in chrome. F5 doesn't seem to do anything.
After quick googling, it seems command and R refreshes. Also if you want to make F5 work, someone said this:
"To make F5 work you could try going into system prefs, keyboard pane, and check the Use Function keys as normal function keys setting."

Nothing there :(

-snip- never mind
Check under keyboard shortcuts, input sources and modifier keys

Just use CMD+R
As far as I know, chrome isn't coded to use F5 in Mac either.
Also, if you want to swap function keys with F keys then Keyboard -> Keyboard (Or atleast it is like that in Lion)

I do use Palua for this though. You can set it so if you for example run a specific game (like starcraft) then it automatically changes to F Keys, and when you use another program it goes back (or whatever preference you have)

Would this ram not make my MacBook explode?
I have a a late 2008 MacBook (5,1) with the fancy firmware for 8GB total.

oh it's Crucial, nevermind, thought it was Corsair for some reason
I can't keep on living with 2GB, it's slow.

I'm using Transmac. I have tried both iAtkos and a store version of Mountain Lion and neither are bootable. The USB drive crashes the OSX virtual machine so I can't exactly use that. iAtkos ML2, if that matters.
After spending like a 5 days, downloading 4 different copies of Mountain Lion, spending 3 hours total transferring files to a USB stick, re-installing OSX 2 times, modifying a bunch of .kext files, and fucking around with internet settings for half an hour, I finally got OSX to install properly on my computer. Go me!

Automerge broke, odd.
I don't think that I've seen batteries with those little tips. Thanks for pointing that out though, I would never think to be careful of what kind of batteries I'd use. I usually just stick with Duracell anyway.
I get the impression they aren't hugely common in the US. Here in Australia though, shops are absolutely littered with them - especially the more cheaper throwaway brands.
Well everything's upside down there :p but I guess it's more expected with cheaper brands
Any hackintosh aficionados able to tell me if my laptop is able to run OSX10.6 or higher?

You should be able to run osx lion. I'm not sure about mountain lion but according to wikipedia it only needs 2gb ram so maybe that works as well.
I have a 6 year old macbook and the only reason I couldn't install anything higher than snow leopard was because it has only 1gb ram.

Well I think the minimum most of my applications need is 10.6 snow leopard, so would I be best going with that or lion?
IE do you think snow leopard would intall/work better than lion on my machine
I don't see why snow leopard would run better than lion. So you're best having lion since it's newer
30$ away from getting a mac mini. I am exite
not going to wait for a refresh?
Current computer is on last legs, and afraid they might increase the price. I'm 11 so just working a little more isn't an option.

Why on earth would they increase the price?
Can anyone recommend a good place to get some 1067Mhz DDR3 for my 2010 macbook polycarbonate in the UK. Since I upgraded to Mountain lion it runs poopy.
Any DDR3 SODIMM will work, they sell "mac ram" so they can slap higher prices on it and people will buy it.
