Also, my other question is to do with the display and keyboard. Is this kind of flaw still there with the marking and all? Or did Apple fix this flaw a year later after the Retina release?
I'm not sure which flaw you are talking about.
I'm not sure which flaw you are talking about.
It's when the screen on the Macbook Pro Retina has imprints of the keyboard after use of opening and closing, some are bad enough to cause damage.
I've never had it, but I also have one of the matte screens from the 2011 MBPs, so my actual screen is recessed about half a millimeter.

I had never heard of this until now, but Googling it confirms you are correct that this existed. I REALLY doubt you would get it since the 2013 13" rMBP was a new chassis. It seems like it mostly affected users who kept on their keyboard covers or palm rests. For safety you might not want to pile books on top of your rMBP or anything else that would push down on the display when it's folded.

It'll either end up in a backpack or something with a lunchbox along with textbooks and an A4 tabbed notebook. I'm unsure, really. But I'll take your word.
Most of the people's screens I see the keyboard markings on at Uni have those silicone keyboard covers. I figure if you don't have one of those, you should be fine.

So you're saying its the covers they've been using? Not a cosmetic flaw?
I can not attest to the occurrence of marks on the rMBP, but my 2011 13" sadly has them
My early 2013 15" rMBP has them and I haven't got a silicone keyboard cover or anything like that. It's just a bit of oil/dirt from my fingers that gets on the keys, and then only the corners of the keys leave slight marks on the screen that I can easily wipe away with a cloth. That's after being in my backpack without a slip/cover/case/sleeve proper, 5+ lbs of tools and material and biking to uni like a mad bull.
Any good iPad apps that will let me stream my movie/tv collection from XBMC to my iPad? I have looked at Infuse 2 and VLC but you can't really organise it well, you have to click through several folders to view small thumbnail images. The Yatse app for Android is a good example of what I was hoping for. Not sure why it isn't built into the XMBC app.
I have a 13 inch late 2012 rMBP and I've never had any occurrence of that keyboard-screen problem
I'll still be aware, also it's been dispatched today and it's in Shanghai at the moment. It should arrive by Monday. Also I found something called a Nifty, its just a half sized SD card reader for microSDs and I might get it along with a microfibre cloth.
I have a rMBP too and never had that issue.
Any of you guys ever work or have worked/friends work in an Apple store? Gonna apply soon and would be great to get a few tips for working as a genius/specialist.

There are a few people over in the /r/apple subreddit that have, and they're usually pretty helpful with this kind of stuff. I see the same post every few weeks, it always goes pretty well. If the people here can't help you, it can't hurt to ask over there.

I managed to find a picture of said problem that might happen at some point, it's irking me a bit more.
don't put concrete blocks on top of your macbook and that wont happen
[editline]10th July 2014[/editline]
it's not supposed to ever happen with the latest revision rMBP anyways

I've never seen that before but it definitely looks to me to be the result of something heavy on top the lid while closed. The weight of the lid itself won't put nearly enough pressure on the glass to do anything like that.
i think the fact that i had never heard about it until you brought it up points out how non-widespread the issue actually is. we have had a lot of macbooks in the past and that has never happened
Yeah sorry but Apple can't make their products immune to mistreatment. This keyboard thing is not a real issue, there would be massive widespread complaints if it was. When you pile a bunch of stuff on top of your laptop having key imprints should be the least of your concerns.

I'm surprised he hasn't cracked the screen...
Sorry if it's irritating you lot with my uh... annoying questions/problems others have had due to apparent mistreatment, apologies. I'll still see what I can do to keep it in good condition, though. Just gonna have to find what I need first for protection, I don't pile machines that have an ultrabook form-factor which these systems appear to have, so I suppose just extra care will prevent problems.

If it's still under warranty, I'm pretty sure someone at an Apple Store would be willing to help you out. Just remember to be polite.
Outside of that, I'd recommend a screen protector, and not piling things on top of it.
And, if the Apple Store doesn't want to help you out, iFixit has a guide on how to replace the screen.

Closest store is a reseller in Oxford, I live about 30-35 minutes away called Western Computer. And I talked to an Apple Advisor and he himself uses a mouse roll-up lint-free mat to put on his keyboard on his MBP 15. He didn't recommend screen protectors however, unless yourself have one on yours.

No, I don't have one. I've got a late-2011 MBP with the matte screen, so my screen's actually recessed about a mm. It's great, because I don't have to worry about my screen cracking or pitting.
i have never seen anyone put a keyboard protector in their laptops, you won't need one either if you take care of your laptop

I'm honestly not sure what the point of keyboard protectors is... I see them all the time at uni, though.
virtually none to be honest, it's really easy to carry around a little microfibre (one comes with the rMBP even). there is a rubber space on the bezel of the screen so it's not resting on the keyboard or anything

Didn't the guy with the scratched screen say his doesn't have the rubber space?
I've never seen the point in those rubber keyboard covers either. Seriously, what are they meant to achieve?
