facepunch looks a bit weird while loading in new safari (icons, avatars etc. are little ? boxes for a couple of seconds) but otherwise it's great
yosemite feels very polished. spotlight is really useful
i'll write a proper review soon i guess
Man, Yosemite looks really funky if you're used to the previous design for so many years.

It also takes some time to get used to tabbing in Safari. Tabs take up the entire window and you open a window with all your tabs with that button on the top right.

you can enable the tab bar (i have) in the 'view' menu

i really like how yosemite looks.

I'll give the full-window tabs a go first. All it is is an extra click to switch tabs but it doesn't exactly bother me.
I'm going to repartition my hard drive and install that tonight to mess around with it. That new ui looks so slick.
I ended up watching how they changed the new windows to support transparency with the background and different types of transparency, all while allowing previous applications to take advantage of the new UI without breaking anything. Incredible work.
what's also pretty cool is that the background blur doesn't show up in screenshots. real attention to detail
I thought that was only iOS 8 that had that problem in beta? Can you show me?
Bye bye SMART status on my iMac 2010 21.5"'s HDD
prevents me from installing yosemite :(

it's not a bug
And first bug found. iWork refuses to launch. And for some reason, icloud.com redirects me to Apple's website.
could anyone with an external display and headphones tell me if their headphones cut out when they plug in their external display in yosemite?

Äre you sure it doesn't just default to outputting sound to HDMI/DP whenever you plug it in?
Äre you sure it doesn't just default to outputting sound to HDMI/DP whenever you plug it in?
the display has no speakers, and it's over DP. it didn't do this in mavericks
I've been using my Macbook as a wireless adapter for a while now, since my old one crapped out on me, and my the Airport Express I was using also crapped out on me. It always worked pretty well, but I wasn't a fan of having to use two sets of peripherals if I wanted to use both at the same time.
So I installed Synergy, and set up a sharing folder, and now my Macbook and my desktop are one computer. It's working flawlessly so far, not sure why I didn't do this sooner.

goddamn that's sexy as shit
I wish I could afford a mac
same here..
I dunno about you two, but the cheapest Mac you can probably just about afford is a MBA 11in or Mac Mini. Or one of those two from eBay.
AFAIK hard drives are still easily swappable in iMacs. Pretty sure my mom's 27" got an upgrade to a hybrid drive a few months ago.
All iMacs before the newer/thinner redeisgn can easily have their hard drives (and ram) replaced.
And looks like the MacBook Pros aren't getting a major refresh until Q2/mid next year, guess I'm gonna have to get one soon

Maybe it is just me but I don't like the retina macbook pro keyboard as much as I did with the previous version. They made the keys thinner and the pressing distance smaller to make the laptop thinner.

Q1 2015 for Broadwell rMBP. Q4 2014 for rMBA.
too far away
just gonna get one now since I've been using the same MacBook since 2008

My personal opinion is that for people getting the Iris Pro version it's not worth waiting. For people getting the discrete it is because Kepler sucks so hard compared to Maxwell for low power applications. GT 850M is like 2x the performance and 20% lower TDP.

I'm in neither of those groups. I'm in the "oh no my laptop is not as useful as it use to be and I need something now" group
still gonna get one with the 750M since at it will ever need to do is maybe the occasional game of StarCraft 2 (plus maybe some Heartstone and Heroes of the Storm) which isn't all that demanding and it still looks pretty darn good on lower settings
Look what I found at an antiques store yesterday.

Could anyone help me with the Google calendar sync on an iPhone? My coach made a Google calendar and shared it with all of us so we'd have an easy to use schedule. This calendar doesn't sync to my iPhone calendar app. Every other calendar on my account does. I think it's because this one is shared. Is there a way to have the app sync a shared calendar?

Here's what I see on the calendar list on my iPhone

Here's the actual Google Calendar on my desktop

That soccer calendar was the one that was shared and I need to to appear on the iPhone calendar app. Is this possible?

Try going to the following page and confirming that the newly shared calendar is selected to be synced.

If you do that it should begin showing up.
