I'll see if I can maybe get a student discount on Apple care for a refurbished in store or ask about it via their text chat on their website. The refurbished 15 inch you linked looks like a very interesting and good option for me.
no education discounts for refurbs afaik, i asked apple chat [editline]7th August 2014[/editline] oh you can discount apple care?
Get the first one with the Iris Pro.
No because for refurbs you have to go through the refurbished store, and for education you go through the education store. There's no way to somehow apply them to one common checkout cart (I've tried). That's what I meant by no student discounts for refurbs, you can't get them in that section of the online store.
I just bothered them, apparently I can just get Apple Care seperately later and apply the student discount for it, then register the applecare for the refurb. [editline]7th August 2014[/editline] Their text chat is pretty nifty.

It's why it only gets the 7hrs of battery, and in the not too distant future it'll be considered pretty far behind in that regard once Apple implements Broadwell and Maxwell.

has anyone else used the ipad mini retina for drawing/painting? just wondering if the screen size is decent debating 32gb mini retina or 16 air?
[t]http://i.cubeupload.com/Fqy2aR.jpg[/t] Just bought myself an 13" non-retina MBP for school yesterday. Really enjoying it but the temperatures are making me concerned. Anything intensive will run the cpu up to 90c+ very quickly. Are these typical temperatures? The fans don't seem to kick in past 2000rpm until 80c. When just idling around it seems to hover around 50c-65c. [editline]8th August 2014[/editline] I've heard that Windows isn't super great with the temps either but I've monitored them in OS X as well and they get just about as hot.

In Windows my fans kick in when its doing nothing, if you are gaming its good to use something like Macs Fan Control to get the cooling to start so you don't get a drastic throttle. Elevating the machine will help also.
has anyone else used the ipad mini retina for drawing/painting? just wondering if the screen size is decent debating 32gb mini retina or 16 air?
I would take the Air. The screen on the Mini Retina sucks in comparison.
also how far have the leaps in performance been recently? would you guys expect the next ipad generation to be leagues better? or just slight but noticable improvements?
well, I already have a bamboo create, I thought an ipad would be a neat thing for on the go stuff though of course thats not the sole purpose i would buy it for

The A7 doesn't have enough RAM and it evicts programs like crazy.
Anyone else suffer the freeze when you load a YouTube video in Firefox on Mac OS X Mavericks? Also I had a kernel panic the other night and I don't know what caused it. The last thing I was doing was watching YouTube videos in Firefox for a while and I went out and came back to a window hidden behind Firefox stating it rebooted. EDIT: I don't know if a scrambled display when I boot the MacBook is a good sign as well. Trying solutions like SMC resetting and safe-boot. Oddly enough it doesn't suffer this when I safe-boot the machine. Might take it in if it doesn't stop happening.
Looks like Handoff isn't supported on iPad 3 despite it having Bluetooth 4.0. People who bought this thing got so totally screwed for longevity. Underpowered GPU out of the box, no blur effects on iOS 7 because of it, 30pin connector, and software features like Airdrop and Handoff missing for no reason.

[editline]13th August 2014[/editline] sadly safari is a little buggy in yosemite right now but hopefully it should come around soon
Being a helpful person on the Apple Support Communities, I happen to keep breaking my connection to the Apple Communities server just by trying to change my avatar. Happens on any machine in the house so I don't know if it's apple's end. Quite funny though. [t]http://i.imgur.com/8HJPlkx.png[/t]

Should I Jailbreak my Iphone? I just want to be able to do more with it, customization and such. Anyone recommend any specific programs for doing so?
Pangu is the only tool for iOS 7.1 and above. Just don't pirate apps, nobody wants the App Store to end up like Google Play.
Duly noted, I would feel really guilty if I did. Have you used it before?
Duly noted, I would feel really guilty if I did. Have you used it before?
Yes, it works fine.
That looks really fragile though [editline]15th August 2014[/editline] Even worse that from my own experience Apple cables "rot" over time [thumb]http://www.suloag.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/20130613-222505.jpg[/thumb]
Yeah... I've got a pair of earbuds going that way now. I'll probably replace them with some higher-end Sony buds later, but they work fine for now. My lightning cable's held up pretty well since the Air launch last year. I haven't had any issues with it. I never had an issue with my 32-pin either, but I haven't used it in ages since I charge my phone on a dock. I guess that's the price we pay for good-looking cables... But that begs if cables should really look good in the first place.
i've never had an apple cable break before. just don't wring them around things and keep them at a relatively regular angle
Anyone else noticing image-retention on the rMBP? I only just noticed when Safari was in a blank tab and saw a faint retained image of Facepunch with the easily distinguishable words.

If the image stays take the laptop to Apple and they will replace it.
buying a non-retina MBP here soon, gonna spring for the 1TB drive and 8GB RAM and call it a day can't wait to have a good laptop again
That thing seriously isn't worth $1200 (or $1150 if you're a student). The chassis is so old and the hardware platform in general is old. If I needed 1TB I could buy this (or the base 13" for the same price and a $100 GC if you're a student) and an external HDD and it would still weigh less than the old MBP.
in a case of a refurb like that I'd happily buy one, but the storage is still an issue for me because I really don't want to carry an external drive around like some life support tool 256GB is a hell of a lot better than the base retina model though
1tb drives are so tiny and light. usb3 makes most of them pretty quick too i bought a retina and USB3 drive instead and it's perfect. just put the HDD in the same bag as your macbook and keep it plugged in if you want even [editline]17th August 2014[/editline] the non retina macbook at regular price is a rip off. it's not a good laptop by a lot of standards now
