any merit to his claims
I don't have issues with mine and it's definitely fast to what it can do. It's a hit and miss sometimes so maybe I got lucky with mine.
Any mention of apple: it's garbage

What's worse is when you meet people like this IRL... Sometimes it's better to just smile and nod.
That's a bit disappointing... They could have had something like the Skylanders/Disney Infinity thing, or NFC-enabled Apple Gift Cards, or a way to scan NFC-compatible credit cards into the system... NFC has a lot of uses, why limit it?
Uh, Apple has had tech for scanning in gift cards and credit cards with the camera for a long time now. You don't add your card to ApplePay by typing in a credit card number.

the guy I'm talking about literally just said it out loud in the class when a little bit of discussion about Apple. It was the prof complaining that Windows is confusing and it is easier on Mac for some software/program and he just says Macs are garbage right after.
yeah I'm not going to argue with this guy, literally no point, going in circles and not worth the time or effort. Although you would get a high off arguing with this guy like I did briefly earlier today.
Took the dive and bought a 6 today. 64GB, Space Gray.
I did want to ask you something about it, Kaabii, since you seem to know almost everything about these things. What's the deal with the internal downsampling, and is that going to affect the user experience?
I'm upgrading from a 4S, so anything's going to look better than this, but I do want to know what I'm in for.
Lol that's the exact model I bought. 64GB Space Grey iPhone 6 club begins here!
Um, there's no downsampling on the 6. Basically with the 6 Plus Apple renders the UI at 3x scale which is 2208 × 1242. This is measured in POINTS, not pixels. The amount of addressable points on the 6 is 667 × 375 and if you double both those you get the 1334 x 750, no issue there. The addressable points on the 6+ is 736 × 414. 3x for both of those brings you to 2208 x 1242. Because Apple doesn't want the battery and brightness regressions that LG has with their WQHD panels, they went with a 1920x1080 display and this resolution is rendered offscreen and scaled down. There is some degree of quality loss, but I'm very certain Apple's filtering is derived from their OS X scaling and filtering which means the quality loss will be minimal and at 401ppi likely imperceptible.
hey guys, i recently got a hold of my dad's ipad (he died recently) and i was wondering if there was a way i could get past his code to back up the stuff he had on it before i restore

He was talking about NFC-compatible credit cards in the part you bolded. He wasn't talking about regular ones.

But I'm saying what's the point? That's a useless feature to have when your camera can do it. You will save 5 seconds doing something that you only have to do once.

Makes sense. Looks like it'll be a good upgrade.
Any idea if they'll suffer from the same RAM issues the iPad Air does, though? You seemed to hint at something like that a few pages ago.

It's not as pronounced on the iPhone 5s as it is on the iPad, and so I don't expect it will be as bad on the 6 as on the iPad. Good luck to the 6 Plus users rendering offscreen at 2208x1242 though.
I preordered an iPhone 6 Plus, but I have to wait until Oct. 1st to get it so I can renew my contract. Also, I was really hyped for the GNote 4 but it didn't turn out as I expected it to :(
So both the 6 and the 6+ have 1 GB of RAM. Thoughts?
So both the 6 and the 6+ have 1 GB of RAM. Thoughts?
It's kind of a bummer when most flagship Android phones ship with 2 or 3 but it will probably be fine.
So both the 6 and the 6+ have 1 GB of RAM. Thoughts?
iOS probably handles RAM better than Android.
Similar to how OS X can run just as fast as Windows with less RAM.
iOS8 is out, for those interested.
iOS handles RAM better than Android but not enough to offset a gap of 1-2GB. The real reason is that Apple doesn't want apps to start crashing on all those A5 devices because devs are targeting devices with 2GB of RAM as the high end and 1GB as the low. Next time around will be 2GB when Apple kills off the A5. What that means right now is that apps will reload more often on an iPhone 6 Plus than a Galaxy Note 4 though, there's just no getting around it.

Also I think iOS 7.1 enabled compressed memory but don't quote me on that. It was in the code with 7.0 but not enabled.
So how hard are the Apple servers getting raped right now?
Maybe gonna put off updating for a day...
[editline]17th September 2014[/editline]
Aparently it started the download by itself.
I kind of like my jailbreak on my iPad too much to update now.
Seems like they have an que system for this launch, so the servers are not getting THAT raped, like with the iOS 7 launch.
Does IOS 8 support iPad Mini with Retina display?
They obviously have allocated resources properly specially after the livestream accident
What exactly happened during the recent keynote livestream?
It was strange really, there was only like 10 people at my school trying to download iOS8. Last year, just about everyone brought a charger to school so they could download iOS7, but the Wi-Fi crashed :v:
I just reached over to grab my iPhone 5 so I could update it and realized I sold it to preorder a 6.
It was simply a tragedy
Chinese voiceover translation, skipping randomly to various parts of the stream and cutting off, basically unwatchable
Looks like the production crew had a fun production..
I kind of like my jailbreak on my iPad too much to update now.
I updated my iPhone but left my iPad on 1.7.2 so I could try Pangu :v:
I want to try that app that lets you use console controllers, because I went to play the GTA games I bought but remembered why I never continued after the first few missions; touch controls are terrible in shootouts.
Guy I was talking about earlier confirmed full on anti-apple guy, not going to even bother with him on anything apple related.
All the self proclaimed 'tech guys'(read: 12-14 year olds who played Minecraft and thought they were geniuses because of it) at my school took great joy in making fun of my MacBook Pro, calling it too expensive and too slow.
I took great fun in giving them the finger when they begged me to fix their Asus G series and Alienwares because they dropped them once or the thing just fell apart within a year or they got a virus because they turned off Norton(lol) while my Core 2 Duo MBP continued to truck along for more than 3 without any major problems and still felt as fast as the day I got it. I really miss my Mac.
After my current laptop bites it I'm done with buying Windows computers for myself forever, unless it's like a NUC or something as a media server.
So my train is soon, ill get to Sheffield at about 23:30 and ill let you know how many people are there :)
I think I'll always keep a gaming/media PC around, but I do most of my computing these days on my Macbook. They're such a pleasure to work with, honestly.

I find that funny because Apple uses the fastest i5 and i7 SKUs that Intel offers. There's no room for improvement in speed.
