Pepper;46023878']It's also not just about raw power either. Apple's stuff are really well made bits of kit, most brands who make windows laptops cut corners unless you look at the business stuff. [editline]1:11[/editline] My merge!
Apple should cut some corners on the MBP. Like literally. My wrist are getting grated. That's pretty much my only hardware complaint, other than the keyboard being a bit mushy compared to my Sony Vaio. It's also not as fast in general operation as I expected, but it's at least more responsive than the bloatware infested laptops most people are using. [editline]23rd September 2014[/editline]
Edit: Glitchability (video)
Reminds me of a WP7 bug that worked back when you still had the arrow and the smaller tiles, pretty much the same effect. Also, reading ArsTechnica's review, this came up: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/L6j9zSv.png[/thumb] The iPhone 6(+) does really well in benchmarks, but how does that translate into real world performance when relatively few applications have made the jump to 64-bit? How much of the IPC improvements are due to 64-bit? Honest question here. A different point is the one of RAM limitations - when more applications actually make the jump, will 1GB actually be enough to ensure few reloads?
A good portion of the IPC improvements are not related to 64-bit directly. Cyclone is a very very wide architecture. You do raise a very interesting question though, and I think I'm gonna go look into it. [editline]23rd September 2014[/editline] The RAM thing is also a tricky situation. If Apple had done 2GB it would have quickly led to devs targeting 1GB as a baseline and that would wreck all the A5 devices; one of which Apple still sells because they like to scam people. Between compressed memory, and the fact that A8 can reload applications extremely fast even when they get evicted, the experience has been great for me on my iPhone 6. That being said, I'm not at all arguing that not moving to 2GB was the right choice. It is disappointing.
Buying a Macbook Pro for the first time anything I should know? I was going to go with the 2nd base option. 2.6GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM 256GB PCIe-based Flash Storage Intel Iris Graphics How powerful is this? Will it play most games decently? I mainly want it for development but playing a few games would be sweet. Anything I should change or worth upgrading to etc?
the sharp edges are pretty much on every Apple product now and I think it's ok. It doesn't feel like it's nailing my skin that much. For the Macbook keyboard, I kind of like the ones on Sony Vaio laptops better. It has more pressing distance and feels easier to press in general while Apple feels stiffer. Speaking of keyboards, the wired Apple Keyboard on this 27-inch iMac at school has a defective "i" button. It sometimes doesn't work. lol.

If you plan on doing heavy image or video stuff then consider 16GB of RAM. As far as games go, you'll be fine if you play them at scaled resolutions. Iris is very powerful for integrated graphics. Might even be able to run Source games on Highish settings.

And it heats up like crazy in almost every game I've tried. The only game it seems to not have trouble with heat is Dirt Showdown.
So a few people in my class say that the Nexus 5 is the perfect phone size (for them). Another classmate said that my Nexus 5 was a toy. She had an iPhone 5 or 5S. I pointed out that her phone was a toy as a comeback :v: Another guy got the Nexus 5 then returned it half an hour later to get an iPhone 5c. According to him, Android was too confusing and complex for him such that it's messy and annoying. Um ok.

My Y500 can run Source games completely maxed at 1080 with only one GT 750.

I'm sure if I installed W8 through Boot Camp there wouldn't be an issue with performance. I have gone through two of these already, fist one stopped recognizing things plugged into both USB ports. And both have had pretty less than great performance in games. The only thing that seems to be reasonable is Dirt Showdown playing at a pretty solid 60fps at 2048x1280 on medium with 2xAA. I have the first Bioshock installed but I haven't tested it yet.

Everyone tries to justify their stuff somehow.

Also I have a desktop computer that I use for gaming and editing pretty much. There might be mild editing but not enough to warrant 16gb of RAM I don't think.

So I managed to pick up an iphone 5c dirt cheap (£23pm for unlimited texts, mins, and 2gb of 4g on Three) thanks to the contract prices falling through the floor what with the iphone 6 and such. This is my first apple device since the iphone 3g, which I lost in a pub years back, and I have to say I forgot how... nice they are to use. Does anyone have any suggestions on apps and games I should grab?

He does have windows installed, but even on the mac side it runs source really well. Are you under warranty?

Yeah. But like I said, I've already been through two laptops and both has the same issue. My external DVD drive arrives tomorrow or Thursday. Once it shows up I'm going to install stuff like StarCraft 2 to see if it was just CS:GO and TF2 being shit heads or if there really is a problem with the gpu.

This is what the warranty is for, they'll swap it out for free again. Just tell them this is the third time and it's a persistent issue.
I rather not drive to the bad part of town if I don't have to. I'm just going reinstall both and some other stuff and see what happens. But I'm really not sure if it even is the GPU since Dirt Showdown runs fine at 2048x1024 with mostly medium settings and 2xAA. It only has noticeable dips when a bunch of cats collide at once in the weird death match style mode. [editline]24th September 2014[/editline] And I finally tested Bioshock which ran fine at max settings at native res.
Source games suck on OS X.
Anyone tried Civilization 2 yet on a iPhone? Wanna know if its worth it since i played the living shit out of the first one.

So was anyone unlucky enough to download 8.0.1 on a 6/6+?
So was anyone unlucky enough to download 8.0.1 on a 6/6+?
By the time I even saw anything about the update (2ish hours after launch) it had been pulled.
how to downgrade to 8.0.0:
So I went to the Apple Store at my local mall today and played around with the iPhone 6 and 6+. The 6+ feels so big, the 6 feels good and the size is decent. Physically it's a little bit taller, a little bit skinnier and a bit thinner than my Nexus 5. It does feel good in the hand.
None of the stores around here have stock of any 6+(es?) until November. Frick.
What a complete disaster.. Dutch store Dixons promises everyone that if they order quickly they can get the iPhone on release day (tomorrow) Hundreds including myself order the iPhone from Dixons Few hours later i get an email that i am on number 55 (from the current like 600-800 orders) Suddenly everyone's order status changes from tomorrow to "Unknown" People flip their shit on twitter and facebook Hundreds of people tweet the supportdesk about what the shit is going on right now Receive an email stating that they received a very limited amount of iPhones and that the 64GB version won't be delivered at all for the upcoming 2 weeks. Also states that i miiigghhhttt have been put on a backorder list and that next week tuesday i will get a email about a status update about my order. If i won't get a confirm that the iPhone has been send by midnight it means i am on that backorder list. The thing that annoys me the most is for the fact they promised everyone that you would get it if you ordered on time which is what i did and for the fact they didn't even send an apology about the fuckup they did because i would order somewhere else if they didn't.
If they carged you a preorder fee you should demand they refund it.
I want to cancel but there is a overload of people calling the helpdesk at the moment as i am number 68 in the waitline :v: Will cancel tomorrow morning when they open the helpdesk though.
