Jailbroke my iPhone 6 and realised i didn't needed all that much, maybe like 3 tweaks. 2 of 'em i shall not share since they would prob ban me from here but also the tweak that allows you to upload music directly to the iPhone music player, i hate having to use 2 different music apps.
I never really felt the need to Jailbreak my iPhone 5s.
I hate the way yosemite and/or ios 7+ looks, does anyone else agree? much prefer mavericks and ios 6
I hate the way yosemite and/or ios 7+ looks, does anyone else agree? much prefer mavericks and ios 6
On my macbook pro I'm still running Mountain Lion and I love it. No real use to upgrade any further, mostly because it's from 2008 and might not run as well on anything past 10.8
lol i'm thinking about getting an imac soon, maybe near christmas, and it HAS to have mavericks on it, yosemite really does frustrate me with it's ugly aesthetics
as much as you might not like it, yosemite's looks have a degree of objective functionality and aesthetic form relative to mavericks if you really want mavericks on a modern mac, you can download the DMG somewhere.
Tiger was my favorite OSX, looks wise.
I thought I didn't like the look of Yosemite until I upgraded and now I prefer it so much to mavericks.
I find that it's easier to use when I have my screen brightness cranked down all the way. [editline]4th November 2014[/editline] Contrast is way better.
I upgraded to yosemite today and kinda like the new look. though I'm having an issue with the icons being the wrong color. I used to use the obsidian bar mode which I suspect messed up stuff since now the battery percentage is white even though I reverted, same with the clock. using yosemite's dark mode keeps the other icons black while keeping the battery percentage and clock as white. any idea how to fix this? makes it hard to see the icons
My only complaint with Yosemite is that dark mode isn't everywhere in the OS. I mean, I can see why they did it like that, because it would take a lot of assets to make everything look nice, but I still want to see it happen.
Have you used the obsidian "Yosemite default" app?
yup, I had reverted even when on mavericks and I used the yosemite default. I managed to fix it though, and I think the whiteUIserver was still running seeing as I had the option to re-launch everything on reboot. :v: it's gone now and I can only assume it's because of that
Foolishly tried to get TRIM working in yosemite. Wouldn't recommend it as it won't boot anymore. Tried a few things but to no avail. Is it just me or is the internet recovery system pretty flawed in that it will only restore OS X to the version that came with your machine, yet if you have anything newer installed it refuses to do it. Kinda seems ridiculous?
Foolishly tried to get TRIM working in yosemite.
Speaking of, is it a bad idea running your SSD without TRIM?
Speaking of, is it a bad idea running your SSD without TRIM?
That's what I was worried about. Performance wise it won't be as good, and longevity wise, I'm not too sure. Theoretically if the garbage collection is improved then data blocks should not be taxed as much but I'm no expert so I don't really know.
Speaking of, is it a bad idea running your SSD without TRIM?
I've been running without TRIM for years, and I didn't really notice anything.
I guess I'm taking my Macbook in for last-minute repairs tomorrow. My warranty runs out on the 17th, so I figure I should get everything fixed that needs fixing before I'm on my own. On the list of things I'm planning on bringing up: Sometimes fans run full-speed and laptop overheats in sleep mode or when closed. Metallic pinging noise from bottom of case. Occasional graphical artifacting. Yosemite being slow as all balls every time I install it, whether on a blank hard drive or as an upgrade. There are some other, minor issues. I'm wondering what they'll do, since I don't think they still sell these, and I doubt they'll have a refurb for a 1-1 exchange. I guess we'll see.
For doing programming you really need a 15" display right? 13 sounds way too small.
I'd say that the 13 inch retina is sufficient for programming given you use some of the scaled resolutions. I switched from a non-retina 13 inch to the 15 inch retina for more screen real estate for IDEs and text editors, but I think that 13 inches would've worked fine as well.
All right, laptop's in for overnight diagnostics, so hopefully they find something and fix or replace it. If not, I'm on my own from here on out, and I can't really afford to repair or replace the thing.
I'm trying to clear out an old ipod 4th gen that was jailbroken awhile back. I don't care about any settings or photos or whatever, I just want to clear it like it was factory new. Do I have to use iTunes or can I just use the "Erase all content and settings" function in Settings? I'm just afraid that because it's jailbroken something might happen unless I do it a certain way

Is it worth Upgrading to Yosemite for performance. I did a cleanup on my mac and it ran faster for like a few hours. Now it's slow as anything. I'm thinking a clean install of the OS X via disk then, upgrading to Yosemite might be the best solution for performance in general and to get the new OS on there. What do you guys think?
Depends on what model it is, other than that you should try to get Mavericks if you're not on it already.
Why would the model matter for a clean install then Yosemite upgrade? It's A late 2011 macbook pro. I'm on mavericks bout i've noticed it get slower and slower over last few months since upgrading. I think of put at least 2 different OS installs without doing a complete format

My early 2011 low end 13" MBP has no issues with Yosemite though, so you should be fine. It's definitely an upgrade from Mavericks.

I'm sure that's probably reason for a much slower OS X then the stock OS X originally. I'll try getting the stock CD and reinstalling from scratch got nothing of note to really keep apart from games file size wise. And then getting Yosemite downloaded especially if it's fast, would you say it is?

A bit of a new topic. I have been encountering a slow system as i described earlier, i've just got the hardware test CD plus reinstall CD for the macbook pro and tried running both. The hardware test crashed(black screen) the reinstall disk told me to restart 3-4times. I googled this and found a problem on a bullet forum, one idea was faulty RAM.(The solution for this was to download the AHT, Diagnostic file but I don't have a USB stick to hand) That got me thinking I switched the Ram in this macbook pro with the ram from another macbook to get it to 4GB. I've been noticing the symptoms of Faulty RAM. Random crashes, hanging and my first Complete OS freeze. I've still got the old Ram i switched out but would that of gone faulty during it's stay in it's current location or is it not ideal compatibility due to varying models and being with other original RAM instead of two of the same types. What you think on that? Reason i ask is I want to clean install my OS X so i can speed my mac up and get Yosemite as fresh upgrade, but can't reinstall my OS X due to the inability to startup from either disk as mentioned above. It's either RAM or Battery, everything else seems to run fine even the hard disk after disk utility found no problems, i have symptoms of dodgy RAM/battery if anything preventing the AHT via the install disk.
