Really, the worst part of all of this is AppleCare. I can't buy a Mac without it, and it's $250 now. I swear it's gone up.
I think it has, I remember it being like $129

That's what I remember too. Wonder why they jacked the prices?

Maybe because it was too amazing
My screen and logic board went a few months ago and if I hadn't have been covered with applecare it would've cost me about £700 to get fixed. As it was, I walked out without paying a penny. Gotta hand it to them!
I was told that for the "non-repairable" ones, they literally give you a brand new/refurbished one of the same model/spec.
AppleCare is one of the best warranty services I've had the pleasure to work with.
Whats the best place to go to learn the Apple eco system and shit? Like gestures and things, must have apps and what not. Want to be prepared for when I get it

Read through this!
Plenty of others to look around on Apple's site.

Google kinda has a similar one where if you needed to RMA, they send you a new device and you send the older one back. They stopped doing it for Nexus 5 devices in July which kinda sucks. I think they still do it for the tablets and some other devices.
I just spent two and a half hours replacing the bezel on a pre-unibody MacBook Pro. It is far and away the worst computer I've had to service, in terms of ease of maintenance. To replace the bezel you have to take out every single screw in the display assembly, every single one. And every screw is of a different size. It's horrible. I'm never doing charity work again. Oh, and to top it all off? I button it up and go to close it to flip it over and put the battery in...... I put the hinges on upside down. It won't close. I have to do literally everything again.
Thank you based unibody and single-piece display module.

No but you don't understand maaaaan. Repairability maaaaan. If you break the display on the new ones you need to buy a new assembly maaaaaaaaaaaan.

I'll be honest, kind of miffed about that... I've got a tiny 1" crack that's basically killed my Macbook's resale value, since a new assembly's $700. It's actually more cost-effective to just buy an entirely new Macbook and trash the old one, because I'd only make back $300 on the repair.
I can completely understand why it's a better design, but it does act as a critical point of failure.

yeah guuyysss, it's all about how thin and light the thing is designed! and get apple care!!!
yeah guuyysss, it's all about how thin and light the thing is designed! and get apple care!!!
I had Apple Care. My crack didn't show up until I took it in for a final service appointment a week before mine ran out. I could actually keep this laptop if I could repair the screen for less than the cost of a new Macbook Air.
How exactly did it crack?
How exactly did it crack?
I have absolutely no idea. I got it back from the Genius Bar, checked it for any damage, took it home in the box, put it on my workbench for a week and then the first time I went to use it after getting it back, a 1" crack had appeared in the bottom left of the display that wasn't there when I picked it up. I have absolutely no idea where it came from, or how it happened. I practically baby the thing.
yeah guuyysss, it's all about how thin and light the thing is designed! and get apple care!!!
I mean, I don't hate the ability to repair things, but I put more value on having it be smaller and lighter. The move to soldered RAM annoys me though, but Apple is shipping 16GB standard in the rMBP so it's not a huge deal.
A colleague of mine was petitioning Intel and the big DRAM makers to come up with a new standard for RAM in Ultrabooks because we needed something smaller and better than SO-DIMMS. The problem was that Intel was willing to entertain the idea, but only if he could give some evidence that people would actually use that, and the truth is that even with RAM upgrades most users don't do it. It sucks.
So the Macbook I bought is an American one, so I need to get a new adapter.
I was just wondering, what way does the charging work on Macbooks?
Like what do I need to buy?
Can I just buy this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_nr_p_89_0?fst=as%3Aoff&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amacbook+pro+adapter%2Cp_89%3AApple&keywords=macbook+pro+adapter&ie=UTF8&qid=1418379647&rnid=1632651031
Or does it have to be this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/extension-Apple-Adapter-Charger-Macbook/dp/B004S6VIG2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1418380119&sr=8-2&keywords=macbook+pro+adapter
Not sure how the charger looks on it

Either will work, it just depends on if you want the cord between where it plugs into the wall and where it attaches to the MagSafe block. If you don't have that cord, it can be difficult to plug it into power bars because the brick needs to cover like 3 outlets.
get the cord if you don't hate fellow outlet users
Thanks, should I probably buy both?
i got both with my macbook, and personally never actually use the one that goes straight in to the brick
I use it all the time, but I make sure to take an outer outlet. It just fits better in my EDC.

What sorcery is this?
clearly it is black magic
Anyone got the 5K iMac? I've already got a Retina MBP but I'm thinking about replacing my desktop PC with one, just wondering what peoples experiences with it have been like.
I oogled one at the Apple store yesterday. It's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo pretty.
It's very pretty but on the highest scaling mode the M290X kills itself so if you want more than 2560x1440 of space buy the M295X version.
How does the M290X compare to the GTX 775M? I'll mainly be doing photo and video editing but I wanna run games too, nothing really intensive just source games and WoW.
I think it's probably not a good idea to get the 5k iMac yet. Wait for a second generation where issues have been ironed out, I think the 5k iMac is mostly just a product created to start increasing competition in high res desktop computers. Plus, Apple will most likely make a smaller 4k iMac in the next year or so, which will be a lot cheaper and have the bility to be used as an external monitor. Just my 2 cents.
