Fair point but I'd only be paying about £240 extra getting the 5K instead of a normal 27" upgraded to have a fusion drive.

I suppose, but I would definitely wait for prices to drop or for problems to be known before making such an investment...
With Apple products, always wait until at least the second generation. It's been true with almost everything they've ever made. The first one has some problems, then the second one is brilliant.
Think I'll just get a non retina iMac and use some of the money saved to upgrade to an i7.
That unfortunately won't happen because the PC industry is a race to the bottom. I personally would go retina for 240 GBP, I know people who own the iMac 5K and don't have any major issues. The only documented thing is that the M295X throttles because of the heat generated.
Yeah I did a bit research and found that too, I'd just be getting the M290X so at the moment I'm thinking of getting the 5K iMac again.
For reference, the M290X is basically an HD 7870.
Thanks that'll help me seeing how it handles my games, not really a whole lot of gameplay vids for the M290X.
retina on a mac isn't usless...

Where did somebody say that it is?

You could probably buy a cheap point n shoot or camcorder that'll outperform the iPad in every way for less than the extra gear there.
Well the iPad would have a rode video mic pro which is a pretty decent shotgun mic for $250, which will pretty much outperform the cheap mic found in cheap cameras and camcorders.

Okay, fair enough about the microphone. Still not convinced the relatively low quality camera can make up for it though.

If you ditched the microphone, the iPad might have a better microphone than certain point and shoots but camcorders will more likely have better cheap mics in them.
Picture quality wise - decent resolution ones will be fine, still depends.
Video quality wise - some cheap point and shoot only do up to 720p while the iPad can do 1080p. The point and shoots may fake 720p by up scaling more than the iPad. Still depends.
But yeah, if you throw $500 on a camera, it will beat a $500 iPad where the camera part of it probably only costs $30-50. Throw in the body, display, then it racks up in price so it's slightly more comparable

why wouldn't you just use it with an actual dedicated video capturing camera
[editline]27th December 2014[/editline]
you can get DSLR cameras for a considerable chunk less than that ipad (t3i, d32/300) which will have way better video IQ and manual controls. don't need to buy some stupid lens and hotshoe/tripod body that will cover the entire ipad when those cameras come with all of those things built in to a much smaller shell
the sensor on that ipad is so tiny that using an external SLR lens is pretty much pointless anyways. and you're just adding another layer or two of glass to a DSLR set up
Uh, I think part of the idea is that you have all (albeit rudimentary) tools available in the ipad itself, making it a feasible all-in-one solution for simple camera work. It's like comparing a tank to a stationary artillery canon.

I wouldn't use an iPad for taking photos and filming stuff when you can get a better camera, I know the differences.
Got my Macbook and I'm loving it.
Quick question though, how do I associate magnet links with the Deluge client? When I try open a magnet link it says no program found and when I click deluge it just opens the program but doesn't add the magnet link?
deluge is pretty broken on os x
qBittorrent is better
Transmission is my favorite OS X and Linux client for bittorrent.
Before I buy it, is this:

Just something you plug into the white powerbrick? The charger is way to long so it doesn't fit in the sleeve I got, and I was hoping that this would be an alternative to having the long extension lead that goes from the powerbrick to the plug socket.

Just plug it in and you're good to go. I've done that for a while but sometimes it's a bitch to remove.
Thanks I got one, would rather an official apple one but this will do. The charger for the macbook is ridiculous how can they expect you to carry it around ha
better too long than too short
(even though it's not, you can wrap the magsafe end around the brick with the legs that pull out of it)
[editline]1st January 2015[/editline]
you should have gotten one of those with your macbook by the way
I bought an american macbook for cheap so I didn't get one, since I'm in Ireland I need one of the UK adapters. Your right long is better than short just annoying since I don't have the adapter yet and the charger doesn't fit in my case ha

I bought myself a 13" rMBP today, and I'm liking it so far. It's so much smaller and lighter than the 15" I had, and the screen is so much better. I thought the 15" was clear enough, but I really don't think I could go back now. This is fantastic.
Anything I need to know about this, though? What can I expect to get out of the Intel Iris graphics and i5? Is this going to be "pro" enough?
I'm a journalism student. The most I should ever need to do with this is simple photo and video editing, and displaying powerpoints off a projector. I won't have any issues with that, will I?
Got a 5K iMac today after considering it for a few weeks, if anyone else is thinking of getting one definitely go for it.

I have one and I mainly use it for photo editing, serves me well. You shouldn't have any issues.
I wish I had more USB PORTSSS :suicide:
