I was at a party and some guy was using his macbook all night and morning without even charging it, and it was pretty awesome
I think a perfect setup would be my PC desktop for gaming and general home stuff and then if I could get a macbook for travelling/college work

Postage would cost £5 through royal mail first class.
£105 for an iPod video 80gb with a new battery and minor scratches (I won't count the ones on the metal back, because that will scratch if you breathe on it too hard)
Seems like a good deal, obviously tell your dad to keep it on the market but if I get the money soon I'll tell you

It's gonna be even better with Haswell
I'm considering buying the 15 inch Retina MBP, the one with the 512gb SSD. Refurbished is way cheaper so I'm considering that route, is this a bad move?
I would recommend getting the regular MacBook Pro, because the rMBP's RAM is soldered to the logic board, so it's a ~~nice~~ display or a tiny bit of future proofing/upgradeable speed, I'd go with the second one. But other then that, if you know what apps you're going to use, there really shouldn't be a problem. OS X is surprisingly similar to Windows.
Does anyone else notice mac gaming is really growing? I have relatively good games in my steam and most are on Mac, I'm doing a lot more gaming then I thought I would be doing. (fyi I bought this because Final Cut and double monitors.)

Oh and get a recent model if it's refurbished, even brand new macs tend to only last for 2 or 3 versions of OS X , though I think it'll be OS 11 after 2 years. I don't think 10.10 will be a thing :v:
Also, why does skype for mac suck
Skype for anything sucks arse nowadays.

You're ignoring that the non retina is thicker and heavier because it doesn't have the new design, and that it ships with mechanical storage by default and with a refurb he won't have an option to change that in the order itself. The non retina also doesn't have HDMI out AFAIK, but it does have ethernet and a DVD drive It's not as simple as "choose more RAM or the best display on a laptop."

And yes, the current model doesn't offer as much in terms of performance. But I would still say Haswell is gonna be a big improvement. If not that, then at least Broadwell will :v:

The current model doesn't doesn't offer much to the last gen. But I would still wait for the Haswell / Broadwell macs instead. Better GPU performance and way better battery life.
Skype for Mac looks a bit lame but it works fine.
Skype isn't exactly good on my Windows computer either.
Skypes alright for me
My only problem is it's one of those bullshit programs where closing it doesn't close it and you need to properly exit it to make it stop running

… and yet oh-so-wasted on Apple hardware which doesn't support USB3. Different story if he's running a Hackintosh.
I thought macs had USB3 nowadays
DVI-VGA adapters cause mega fuckery on my hackintosh, I thought the whole think was broken for a bit.

I dont have a problem with skype, its my favorite messaging application at the moment, video calls work really well
I'm wondering what Apple will do with the original iPod line
I still think the clickwheel is the best thing ever

you're late.
God damnit!!! Does anyone have experience with the jailbreak tweak BTC mouse & trackpad? I purchased it earlier today and I still haven't been able to discover my bluetooth mouse.
I've got 400€ from my Grandma for passing my driveing license exam, so I was thinking about getting an iPad.
I'm gonna use it in school, at home and also very important as an e-book reader.
Is the iPad mini good for that? And shall I buy it now or wait for the new iPad mini with Retina screen rumors have been talking about?
Personally, i would wait for the new mini.
There will not be an iPad Mini refresh until October so you'll have to decide if you can wait half a year, and it's hard to think about how a retina mini would work from when I analyze the situation. Apple's software programmers aren't going to want to deal with another iPad 3 situation, they'll want it packing an A6X if it's 2048x1536. So if you have to bump up the battery capacity(possibly, with the smaller size + IGZO they may get away with a smaller bump than they needed with the full sized retina), pack in 4x the pixels, and use the most expensive SoC for you to produce, are you able keep the device at $329? Considering the Mini already has profit margins Apple feels are smaller than they would like, it's really hard for me to imagine a retina mini unless they're able to use less power for the display(since it'll be IGZO it's possible) and they might use the A6X with the full sized one being bumped to an A7(X) or something when it gets updated in October.
The iPad Mini is good for all that, but I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed reading on it remotely as much as I did on my retina. But it's not unusable or anything, just not as sharp as I wish it was. I have all my notes for classes(aside from notes requiring heavy use of mathematical symbols), keynote presentations, spreadsheets, all my textbooks, etc. It's great for school overall. It just has that one downfall that is really more of an annoyance than a true issue.
I don't get why everyone fucking ejaculates over retina so much.
Because it's pretty.
Retina is so hyped it belittles all the other screens on Apple stuff, even though the other screens are still better than most other shit
I don't get why everyone fucking ejaculates over retina so much.
I can get why someone wouldn't care if they had ailing eyes, but it's such a blatant improvement I can't even really say much about it. You don't feel like you're reading words produced by some subpixels in a jail bar pattern on a retina macbook, or a retina iPad. They're rendered immaculately, and it's just so much more pleasing to read.
You're the only person I know who still recommends the non retina macbook over the retina one, because when you show someone a high pixel density display it's immediately noticeable how much of an improvement it is from a typical one.

Most people who show off their amazing phone or tablet display(the iPad Retina Display is actually the only great tablet display though) still work on some trashy TN panel at home. So yes, the iPad Mini and displays like the normal Macbook pro are still better than many others since they're IPS. But with the mini for example, it's only good in a vacuum because if you've ever been exposed for a significant time to a high density display you'll be bothered by it. Going from a retina iPad to my mini was pretty jarring, because it's such a visible downgrade with regards to both color and sharpness.
I could really use retina and edit the scaling a little on my MacBook... I need more room whilst preserving clarity =(
1680x1050 and 1920x1200 on the 13" and 15" ones is awesome, but you're damned to 5fps land if you use them.
Well okay, it's not that bad, but the rMBPs in general remind me of the iPad 3. The hardware vendors didn't make chips ready for such a jump.

As much time as I spent gaming when I was younger, I didn't involve in stuff like this. And I certainly did not use any perverted phrases.
I think we ruined his childhood :\

I'd say so. When I was eleven, none of my friends in middle school were like this... When you're eleven, you should be outside on a scooter or something, not sitting on your bum talking with people 8-15 years older than you on the internet.
