I love the gestures on the magic mouse, but everything else is awful. It's inaccurate, takes a while to connect, and it's just uncomfortable in general If you want a gesture mouse, look at the MS Arc Touch. It's great for travel, and the gestures actually work outside of OSX. [editline]26th May 2013[/editline] But if you don't travel much, please god just get a good wired mouse.
I really dislike all the modern Apple mice to be honest they focus more on minimalism and design than comfort
Oh, believe me, it ain't a modern thing - everything other than the ADB mouse was hilariously suboptimal (although the original Macintosh mouse should be given a pass relative to whatever mice did exist then.) I'd like to be convinced Jony didn't have a hand in any of them.

He's a great designer but honestly we've seen with the iPhone 4,4S and 5 that ergonomics can take a backseat to aesthetics when he's in charge. It's not terrible but the iPhone being somewhat brick like with flat sides and sharp corners isn't as nice to hold as the iPad Mini or iPod Touch, although it looks stunning. I'm not trying to criticize the man, he's really superb, just my personal perception based on his balance of ergonomics with aesthetics in some of Apple's devices.
Oddly enough, I actually prefer the clearly right-angled edges when I'm typing to anchor both hands around with a claw grip - it really ragged on me and the joints of my thumbs when I finally had to move on from my first-gen iPod touch. Couldn't tell you whether the alternate case's more worth optimizing for, though.
So I'm assuming this iOS overhaul means an eventual OSX "overhaul" with regards to the elements based on iOS. Wonder when that'll end up happening.
In a stroke of luck I suspect ML's diffused-look dock might just fit in even more evenly with them.
i hated the reflective dock, made it 2D with a terminal command
Are you using ML? I convinced the thing got a layer of frost inbetween Lion and ML; the same arguments you'd use for matte-versus-glossy displays apply here.

[editline]26th May 2013[/editline] i prefer the 2d dock because it hides at the bottom not doing anything until i need it. it's not distracting, too bright etc and doesn't move around. it just functions.
The Dock's considerably more matte - Alzhemier's has got to me, though, and I don't know how recent that change's been.

I think it was a change in ML. I remember Lion having that stupid-ass wavy line on the dock.
Can anyone tell me if Hexxeh ever released the Facepunch app he was working on (either on the app store or on Cydia)? I'm hoping to make my next phone a 3GS and getting facepunch on the go would be a nice addition.
Because I can't afford anything higher. Come at me.
Really, if you're on that kind of a budget, I'd say get a low-end Lumia or Android handset. iOS may be great for you, but there's no reason to suffer through the 3GS' hardware.
The 3gs is pretty much end of life.
Hold it out and wait until the iPhone 4 is free...
I thought the iPhone 4 was free everywhere. The 3GS is EOL, Apple doesn't sell it or make it anymore.
It probably is.
the 3GS is a piece of shit. [editline]27th May 2013[/editline] source: i own one
To be honest, it's hard to be worse than my current phone.
To be honest, it's hard to be worse than my current phone.
Something like an HTC Wildfire?
Something like an HTC Wildfire?
Wildfire S, yeah.
Does anyone here have the 5th gen iPod touch, and if so, what are your thoughts on it? I sold my Zune HD and I'm between a 4th gen 64gb and a 5th gen 64gb. The 16:9 screen's a big thing for me (it was the main reason I went Zune over iPod for my last device) and it's only a $30 difference between the two on Amazon.
Wildfire S, yeah.
I'd still recommend waiting for something that would be a real step-up. The 3GS isn't much nicer than the Wildfire S, in my experience.

Do NOT buy a fourth gen iPod. It's trash. It's slow, apps crash, the build easily scuffs and scratches, the display sucks, the cameras suck, it just sucks. The 5th gen has a nice aluminum build, the 16:9 IPS display, Apple's A5 chip with 512MB RAM, a decent 5MP shooter on the back and 1.2MP one on the front. Also it's using the connector modern accessories are going to be using. The only downside is it's too thin for a light sensor so no autobrightness.
Here's yet another one of the "holy shit apple that's a nice touch just waiting for me" posts: - when did this get added to the Finder? [editline]28th May 2013[/editline] Aw, fuck, Retina screenshot. Why aren't the DPI EXIF tags getting honored?
