Found the first speck of dust under my iPad minis glass. :(
Anyone have tips on clearing hard drive space? I already went from 5gb to around 12, but I'm shooting for at least 20. Is there any hidden stuff that might being taking up a lot of space?
There are many cleaning programs out there, other than using one, just use a program which maps out what files are using the most space on your hard drive and work on getting rid of those (providing you don't want/need them)
I've just come across my old iPhone 3GS, the battery has expanded a hell of a lot, enough to pop the screen fully off and the motherboard a bit.

AVPlayerHD is awesome.
it's like the only player that can play 720p/1080p mkv on the first ipad without problems
when I dismantled my old iPod I was astounded by how tiny the battery is
iPods don't use much battery though since the screen is off most of the time and it's not doing bluetooth wifi, push notifications etc like the iPhone

*iPod touch
I should of said
Do you know how much it underclocks itself when the screens off? it's insane, it managed to last about 2 months just sitting on my desk, I forgot about it until I took the paper from on top of it and it still unlocked
So what happened with the facepunch iPhone app? I was looking forward to it
Was it something to do with apple reviewing, thought he would of added it to Cydia.
Not sure, but if you have iOS programming experience it shouldn't be too hard to create, the Facepunch API does most of the work for you. I think it was used to create this mobile version: http://www.eewai.com/facepunch/
I'm wondering if jailbreaking my iPod and trying out some tweaks might be able to solve the distortion
there is an app on my S3 after I rooted it called "Stweaks" and I can change loads of stuff, one of them being how much power the jack outputs to stop distortion, does such a thing exist on iOS?

I'm sure it does. Not sure where you'd find it, though.

I've not jailbroken anything since 2009, so I don't know where to start :v:

There's a fair bit of hidden stuff. I'd recommend taking a look at Clean My Mac because it does all of it for you.
To be fair, that MBA will probably be running in twenty years. You couldn't say the same for a Windows laptop.
This is very inaccurate. A MBA, with it's oven-like interior, would barely last 5, let alone 20.

You gonna be taking it to Apple? Happened with my retina and they replaced it on the spot.

It's really hard to spot. I don't know if they'll take it. I suppose I'll find out.

Tell them you're worried since one got under, that more could as well since there must be some defect.
Well it is a legitimate issue with the Mini, a quick google search confirmed it when I was weirded out about there being dust and shit collecting in the space between the metal bezel and the glass bezel.
[editline]15th March 2013[/editline]
Sometime during 2 weeks from now I'll go, spring break is then
Dust and such collects there on the iPhone 5 and iPod touch 5 too. I wish there was some adhesive or something there to block that stuff. I just use the corner of a dollar bill and it comes out.
I was contemplating going around and lining it with superglue, but I know it'd dry before I could clean it off properly and I shouldn't have to superglue a $330 tablet just to keep dust out.
Probably one of the bigger goofs Apple has made recently.

Ahh redsn0w, I remember this
I also discovered the Fiio E1, and I think this might solve my headphone jack distortion volume :

Line-out headphone amp thing with volume controls, so no need for the headphone jack, I just need to see if the dock connector also has distortion, but if it works i'll be so happy
I know it's an age old question but do you really need antivirus software for a mac these days? I feel like the saying "macs never get viruses" can't be true anymore.
Regardless what some people say, OSX is a lot more secure than Windows. This is because it uses the UNIX kernel and because large parts of the OS have been rewritten whereas Windows tries to patch things rather than rewrite them (So that they can keep compatibility to a maximum). I personally don't believe you need an anti-virus for OSX, not to mention they have Gatekeeper now which provides a small layer of security but it's all that's needed

Unix-like systems are often more secure than most NT-powered systems, but that's not the entire reason you don't need an AV. A lot more people use NT based systems at the moment.

I'm not a security expert, but as far as I know, the kernel isn't paramount when it comes to security. This guy is apparently pretty recognized in the security business, and he puts it like this: http://www.geek.com/articles/apple/mac-security-expert-os-x-is-safer-but-less-secure-20100319/
And I'd say in general that if you know what you're doing, AV is largely optional. Unless you're on the Windows XP without the service packs or something.
