Hm... I quite like the new Mac Pro, reminds me of the Cube. Which reminds me I still need to go over to my grandpa's house and pick that up... Hm.
Saddened the Apple TV only got two new features (And only one of them's actually on the device)... Think there's any hope for it this fall?

You need to work on your shapes
Mac Pro: Still better cooling than the OUYA

Haha, very funny... No, I meant the design is very reminiscent of the cube, in that it's very unorthodox and minimalistic.

I'll be here all week
Seriously though, Yeah I agree with you, I'm glad that Apple is taking a different approach on the desktop, but I wish they wouldn't do one that's so hard to work with. Can't imagine this having an iFixit score above 5, and hardware support will be minimal considering it only has thunderbolt and USB 3.0 for serious data transfer

I wouldn't be too sure... By the looks of the pictures I've seen on The Verge and elsewhere, it looks like you can remove the entire chassis surrounding the part-core, and access most of the stuff from there (In the pictures, you can clearly see the RAM (non-soldered) and what I assume is the SSD (also non-soldered... Snaps?).
I mean, it obviously won't be as user-serviceable as an older Pro, but it could easily be as repairable as the Cubes (Which were remarkably moddable, given their form).
Also, we shouldn't forget that there exist adapters between Thunderbolt and most other connections, as well as the fact that USB 3.0 has backwards compatibility. This thing should be able to handle serious data transfer with relative ease.

Tell me that doesn't look like an easy fix if something goes bad!
GOD DAMN IT I WANTED AN UPDATED TOWER NOT A FUCKING FAT DILDO OF A PROFESSIONAL DESKTOP!
Seriously, are those graphics cards even replaceable? This is a serious problem for my dad, who does professional level audio editing and producing. And now to use PCIe hardware audio accelerators, he'd have to buy an external chassis and find somewhere for that where it won't get dusty or in the way. Not to mention I don't think they make 3-slot PCIe enclosures, so he can't run triple accelerators, like his job demands. This isn't exactly good. I mean I'm glad they've made a new Mac Pro, but I'd rather that shape is for a midrange desktop, something like the hardware of an iMac without the display, and leave an actual expandable tower for the Mac Pro.
AND IT'S FUCKING BLACK! I don't want a black computer, I want a silver one like I've been loving for the past umpteen years. I like the color, there's a reason I loved it on the PowerBooks, the MacBook Pros and Airs, and the PowerMac G5 and Mac Pro. Remember how the black MacBooks sold about zero?

It looks like something out of a sci-fi movie!
Now this is the story all about how my life got flip-turned upside down and I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there and let me tell you how I got a shiny new MBA for 30 euros.
My parents agreed I could use a new laptop, only thing I have to pay is the sleeve I'd like to get for it.
I do like the cooling system, though.

Really? Looks more like an over-sized suppository.
Really? Looks more like an over-sized suppository.
A suppository of that size is not a suppository, it's a torture device

Oh damn, consider me wrong.
I still feel like the form factor is strange, but I'll wait to see how it turns out in the end for user experience
A suppository of that size is not a suppository, it's a torture device
Elephant suppository.
The form factor is... interesting, but the wires and shit that you'll have to hook up to this thing to get some expandability feel like they're going to be a bit ridiculous.
I will dress one up to be a R2D2 thing.

Yes, they are. But a Mac doesn't sound like the thing your dad needs... Has he considered a traditional desktop, which are known for their expandability and interchangeable parts?
Also, most PCs now are black. It's a thing. Deal with it... Or buy a can of Rustoleum.
Yes, they are. But a Mac doesn't sound like the thing your dad needs... Has he considered a traditional desktop, which are known for their expandability and interchangeable parts?
We've tried that several times over the years. Each time has ended... Poorly. "Why the FUCK does it have to work this way?!?" "WHAT THE FUCK DOES IT MEAN I HAVE TO EDIT THE REGISTRY TO MAKE THIS PLUGIN WORK?! Fuck that!" Etc. it usually ends up with a new slightly punched workstation for me and a headache for him. The costs of us switching to a Windows based infrastructure would be absolutely monumental, as our entire system was Macs until apple killed the XServe. After that we switched to Windows servers for rendering. We still have a guddam G5 XServe dishing out files from our 16TB small RAID, even. Also, the experience with Pro Tools on Mac is vastly superior to Windows. Don't get me wrong, like any professional grade program(that's not from Adobe) it's still a headache, but much less severe than the windows version.

I thought that one of Apple's things was to look different. That's why the cheese grater was the way it was, and part of why the black MacBook was withdrawn so quickly.
Anyone have any insight into the reasoning behind Apples new cylindrical design Mac Pro ?
Anyone have any insight into the reasoning behind Apples new cylindrical design Mac Pro ?
Similar to why the designed the Cube, I'd imagine... To be different, to stand out, to offer a view into the way they think things should be done.
Anyone have any insight into the reasoning behind Apples new cylindrical design Mac Pro ?
I think my dad summed it up pretty well: "Apparently the whole company is now run by Jony Ivie. Design for designs sake"
The new OS X, MY BODY IS READY. Also, I think for the Mac Pro I'm just going to get the 2012 one, what is with it being a CYLINDER.

I personally thought Black MacBooks were nice looking.
Now they just need to bring back the flowerpot iMac
Rip everything that made Mac Pro great. Hdd bays? Gone.Handles that don't look like ass? Gone. Something that looks good on desks and won't attract dut and finger prints? Gone. Tim cook never new what the fuck he was doing :s

It's likely Ive, not Cook who did this. If I was Cook, I'd have given Ive free reign too, he really helped iOS out.
Yup because Tim Cook personally designed the product himself. Some Apple fans, like yourself, don't seem to realize that Apple's entire design team didn't also die when Steve Jobs did. It's the same people, working the same way with the same ideas and beliefs they always did.

Exactly. Ive knows his design, the iPhone 5 is still the pinnacle of mobile phone design, and I don't know any small tablet that compares to the mini in terms of design.
iOS7 looks amazing!

mystlight 2.0
i think the new mac pro is good
the push for thunderbolt is only good, it means that we will get video equipment and pro grade stuff using a single I/O, allowing it to work full bandwidth with both desktops and laptops.
it also means the price of stuff like HD bays will lower since more production = lower unit costs
Did you guys notice this

The game center icon looks absolutely awful. It isn't flat at all, and doesn't fit anything else in the OS. I hope that's a WIP icon that they just accidentally left in the phone
