I can only see it being a hardware issue, though, if he's already reset the thing by loading new firmware.
If it's actually an issue with that iOS release then restoring won't help. Putting the same problematic software on won't fix it.

It's not, using Tuneshell or youtube or anything else produces normal crystal clear sound, the default app just sounds horrible
I'd be fine using tuneshell but it's got it's problems, you can't resume a song after pausing from the lock screen or it'll just play a few seconds then skip, I'd just kinda like the whole thing to work
[editline]27th July 2013[/editline]
And of course, I can't downgrade back to iOS4 because I don't have the SHSH blobs saved
[editline]27th July 2013[/editline]
It's a ridiculously long shot but is there any way to extract the stock music app from iOS4 and make it so I can install it

Did you do a clean restore or a restore from backup? Have you tried fiddling around with the equalizer settings to fix it?
Lol, using an equalizer when the concern is poor sound quality. It'll just be distorted and unbalanced then.

I'd had this problem for months and just tried a restore today and it failed, that's what sparked the topic again
And funnily enough using the treble booster EQ removes the distortion for the most part, but I gain the problem of too much treble, it bothers me unless I have a completely flat EQ
It's really really really confusing because I've got my friends iPod touch 3g 32gb, exact same model (I checked in settings, MC008BT) and it doesn't have the problem whatsoever, it's perfectly clear with no distortion, it's really frustrating

Are you entirely sure it couldn't be hardware-related? Two identical models should sound the same on the same firmware.
Newest macbook air update is meant to fix the wifi issues if you had any.
Does the Magic Mouse have a middle click?
Does the Magic Mouse have a middle click?
You kinda just... bind it differently.
But really, for desktops. Buy the massive trackpad or a normal mouse

If it's a hardware problem, why does any other music playing app sound perfectly normal, like the original iPod music player should

For a desktop, don't just rely on the Magic Trackpad solely. You're gonna need a mouse eventually.
I wish Wacom would upgrade their touch functions on the Bamboo series, I'd love an alternative to the MT.

I know, I mean more of a Trackpad + logitech G--- mouse or something
Is it like the Mighty Miuse where I can still scroll put push the ball down? I bound it to that in system preferences, but it was still able to scroll. And I'm looking for a good, white (to match everything else) Bluetooth mouse.

Maybe they use different encoding methods?
Honestly, I'm not sure what you want to hear here. None of us know why your iPod, out of the millions of iPods out there, has a supposed software issue that isn't fixed when you reinstall the software. Typically, that indicates a hardware issue. You say it isn't, because you're able to listen to music through other apps. You compare it to another iPod of the same make with the same firmware, and yours is different. Furthermore, we've told you many times we have no idea what the problem is, yet you keep coming here... For what? To complain? To have a sounding board? I don't know.
Maybe all that matters is I now have the ability to kick down doors.

I..what? you can kick down doors?
I came here because I know FP is a huge knowledge database and I thought that maybe somebody somewhere would have any kind of idea what is going on
I sparked up the question again because I finally reformatted my iPod, and that was the final thing I could think to do
I don't know what you want me to say, I mean this is the Apple and Mac discussion thread and I was discussing an iPod v:v:v I wasn't trying to sound like I'm coming here to vent my frustration, it's just a weird mystery I can't seem to understand, it's not like I'm gonna ask in the Android thread or something, it's become less of an "I want the music player to work properly" and more of a "I just want to know what's going on"
There's no need to get rude about it

Right, sorry about all that... Not sure why I blew up there, I didn't mean to. I guess I've just been so stressed out lately that I've been lashing out at people. It's not your fault, honest.
The kicking down doors was a little nod to Gunpoint... Was sort of meant to be a humorous thing. Great game if you haven't tried it.
Anyway, best of luck with your iPod, and sorry you haven't been able to figure it out yet.
It's cool man, we've all been there, I don't blame you

Probably going to be announced with the new iPhone.
Anyone else getting the problem in iTunes where it resets your play count for certain songs?
It's caused me to turn off the playcount entirely because it literally reset around one hundred and fifty of my songs to zero plays.
Probably going to be announced with the new iPhone.
I know, I've been waiting for ages because I thought they would release the Haswell rMBPs at WWDC. Sadly they didn't and I don't want to buy one now only for them to release them in October time.
Anyone know of a way to get my mighty mouse to scroll up? The piece of paper trick doesn't work.
I've had it with Windows Phone and I'm only a 1 year and 1 month with my contract, it's a lumia 800 and I've got my eyes on an iPhone 5, its in my budget however my bank account will be pretty dead so idk whether to keep earning more money so it doesn't leave a huge dint or buy it now.

Just keep earning and grab the new one in October. Your Lumia 800 isn't the worst thing in the world, I think it'd be able to hold for another couple months.
Unless you're me and an impatient bastard.
But hey, for what it's worth, I went from Windows Phone to iPhone as well and it was laughable how much of an upgrade it was.

I am pretty impatient, how long did you have WP until you decided it was time to jump ship?
