The power of the LED on the flashlight/flash is far higher than the ones they use in tiny light strips. You can't compare the two and I wouldn't exactly trust the judgement of someone who claims you have to solder it on, that's why I'm asking if anyone has first hand experience. Except I didn't say that.

I'm referring to my original response and you're not even arguing my points anymore. I asked for someone with experience not a cluster fuck of speculation from hasty teens

You know, we're not judging you. If you think having a glowing Apple logo on your phone is cool, then go throw one on your phone. We just know what we've read, because I was in your exact position once... I decided eight hours of battery life was a little better than a novelty that nobody would really care about.
Still, your right to do what you want. Stop being so insulted by the speculation of hasty teens.
Oh god, accidentally flashed the wrong beta to my iPad mini (was trying to get beta 2) and now it won't work because I haven't registered my UIUD. Trying to restore it back to 6.1.3 D:
Anyone able to register a UDID for me?
So I now have a 13 inch rMBP (as of the 20th) and I love it. One weird question though, does Applecare cover foodstuffs getting into places? Specifically cheese on and around the trackpad. I bought it for £48 and I don't even know what it covers...

It extends the warranty on faulty parts for an additional 3 years and no, it doesn't cover accidental damage/cheese getting on and around the trackpad.
Oh, Macrumors, never change.

I specifically have the HE version which is a weird one in that I have no Applecare code nor does it show up on my account, but when I called support they told me I'm covered.
I can get a 2010 MacBook Pro 2.4ghz 4gb ram for around $250-300.

Yeah, I picked up my 2010 MBP 2.4GHz with 8GB RAM for £380.
A coworker's cousin has a business selling MacBooks and I'm gonna try talking him down to $500 for a 2011 MacBook Pro 13".

Nothing quite like scoring quality shit on the cheap.
It might be a tough sell since the 2011s are currently only one generation behind, but Haswell 2013s are probably a month or two out. I've asked him to let me know when he gets any Airs, though, since that's ultimately what I want.

Either way I could settle for a MBP. I would actually use my laptop because it would no longer be a dying backlight, flexing piece of shit (don't buy Asus.)

it's not applecare, it's just an extended one.
unless you (stupidly) paid £50 for the phone support.
i wish apple would up the price of the 13in MBA by $100 and toss in an IPS screen (bring it back up to last year's price)

the 3 year HE warranty is free.
the £50 applecare just adds telephone support
I'm thinking about upgrading my macbooks hdd to a new samsung 840 evo ssd.
It currently has a 250gb hdd 5400 rpm. Maybe I'm also going to upgrade my ram to 8gb.
Will I be able to run a windows vm without problems if I upgrade everything, considering it only has a 2.4ghz core2duo cpu?
I want to to use it for school which is why I probably need to be able to use Windows.

With a C2D I'd probable go bootcamp. Also, you don't really need Windows for school anymore.
You are in the same class as me, and we only do java programming, database management and webdesign anymore.
All of these things can be done in OSX.

Not only can be, should be. A good terminal is really important for doing those things well imo.

What I really like about OSX is the fact thats it's based upon unix. And the ability to have a terminal and a great shell (bash/zsh) is amazing.
Thats what I mainly dislike about windows, that it doesen't have a proper terminal and a proper shell (don't even mention powershell).
i can't properly function as a human being without bash and most bsd/gnu tools

gf has a white non unibody macbook with a 2.13 ghz c2d, 2gb ram and a 150gb hard drive running 10.5.8 leopard. it runs like shit and can't sync with her iphone 5 among other things.
At this point is it worth it to upgrade to 10.6.8 and maybe add an SSD or something? She'd rather not have to get a new computer, at least for now. I don't think you can go past 10.6.8 on a C2D, correct?
