Pages on iPad is a great word processor. I wish iPads had mouse input for stuff like Pages. Would make it pretty awesome.
I wonder if Apple will ever merge iOS and OS X into one device? A Surface-esque thing, except in tablet mode it's the iOS interface and you can connect a keyboard and mouse and it becomes an OS X menu.
Wouldn't fix 16:10 being a shitty tablet resolution and 4:3 being a shitty laptop resolution, though.
Fuck flash so much. I can get about 6-7 hours battery life watching 1080p video in VLC, but watching a 720p twitch stream? Under 2 hours.
Why do you think Apple are trying so hard to get rid of it? If you're using Chrome, disabling Flash by typing about:plugins and disabling from there forces some websites to use a HTML5 player. Youtube are still running there html5 player in beta so you will have to activate their's from here www.youtube.com/html5
Unfortunately twitch apparently hasn't got a HTML5 player yet but they're working on it
I tried using livestreamer (pip install livestreamer), but the rtmpdump version it installed straight up didn't work and building it from source was a mess. You can watch youtube videos in VLC with just the watch URL, thankfully, but I want to watch Twitch streams without reaching 80C and 2 hours of battery life :(

StreamDesk?
I'm running OSX...

Oh I found another program, also called StreamDesk (http://streamdesk.ca/pages/mac.php), it's abandoned
Crosspost from Sipwicket.
Furious.
Got my MBP back from Apple today after declining the repair and all of the function keys apart from 3 don't work, they worked absolutely fine before it went in for repair and now they don't. All of the broken ones have a kinda click when you press them, almost like there's a crumb under them but there's not.
Called Apple about half an hour ago to talk to them about it and the woman said that because the laptop has been determined to have liquid damage, the keys can stop working at any time and I was probably told this - so she claimed that this was probably the reason behind it. She also mentioned that the LCI's (Liquid contact indicators) had been triggered and the laptop wasn't disassembled by the repair guys. Now, all of the LCI's are internal to the MBP and I don't think that they flag anything on the device from a software point of view, so the laptop would of had to have been disassembled to check the LCI's.
It's pretty fucking obvious that Apple is at fault when the function keys worked fine before repair, but now they don't and there was disassembly involved by the repair tech. Anyway, booked an appointment for Sunday (the rep probably got my email wrong though, i've not recieved a confirmation email yet) but if they refuse to repair it because of the water damage i'm going to flip shit.

Escalate to corporate. If you've got AC+, you can send it in for repairs, and have it done by people who know what they're doing. Sometimes, support at the local Apple Store is a bit poopy.
alright faggots, what if I told you I'm the next steve jobs
So I should be getting my tax returns somewhere in the next few weeks and I'm wondering if I should use it to replace my Ipod Touch 3g or use it to get an iPhone 5C (if they're real).

I'd tell you to get your pancreas checked, I guess.

I really can't decide whether the 5C is real or not. I mean, if it was just a KIRF someone would probably have proved that by now, but at the same time it's been leaked to hell and back and it seems a bit unorthodox.
I'm thinking we'll see it turn up on the 10th September, though.

I'd wait until the reveal of the possible iPhone 5C and then decide.

I'm still skeptical (as you should be with leaks) but I'd be pretty surprised if it turns out to be fake.
On the other hand, it makes the choice a lot easier.
Do any of you know how File Sharing under 10.8 works? I currently have no shares added which I would assume means nothing is shared (http://puu.sh/4jIzt.png), but from my Windows desktop I can see all of Macintosh HD and my external HDD without any login at all.
The terms involved are too vague for googling to work.

Thats normal. But I don't think you can access them.
I think this has something to do with the File sharing service broadcasting the connected storage devices to the clients.
But don't quote me on it.
Thats normal. But I don't think you can access them.
I can read and write from anywhere on my MBP from that window
[editline]5th September 2013[/editline]
"Set up sharing on the Mac
Open Sharing preferences if it isn’t already open, and then select the File Sharing checkbox.
Click Options.
Select “Share files and folders using SMB.”
Select the checkbox next to the user account that will be used to share files with Windows users, enter the password for that user, and then click OK.
Click Done."
The Apple support side annoyingly lacks the info I need. I want to be forced to enter credentials since I'll be using Uni WiFi soon, so I can't have public shares at all. Public access to the entirety of any storage I have mounted is even worse.

Even doing this doesn't change anything. I can still access /Users/sam without credentials after explicitly stating that only my user should have any access.
This is frustrating.

Bump for anyone :(
You know what really rustled my jimmies?
This.

What the fuck, Twitter. Get with the program and at least let me change your icon to black
Isn't the normal twitter client shit anyway? I use tweetbot on my iPhone, and if I recall correctly, they released a version for Mac

In the preferences you can uncheck Highlight Menu Bar icon. Under notifications.
Got a school issue 13" MBP (non-Retina, of course). They already imaged it with Windows 7 64 bit in Bootcamp, however, I'm going to honestly try OS X. Never been a huge Apple guy, but I'm definitely not hating it so far so that's a plus. Definitely much quicker than the Fujitsu Lifebooks they had the last two years.
Any actual advice (aside what codenamecueball gave)? Any must have OS X apps and utilities?

At the risk of sounding silly, have you checked the top free apps in the app store list yet?
At the risk of sounding silly, have you checked the top free apps in the app store list yet?
I keep forgetting that OS X has an App Store. Last version I used was OS X 10.4 on a G4 Mac Mini, so a LOT has changed.

School already pre-installed Office 2011 for Mac. But I'll keep that in mind.
Don't use openoffice either. it's just oracle's gimped version of the much better LibreOffice

That's not an option in my app. However I was looking for it and it randomly went black.
I dunno man, I just don't know.

What type of file do icons need to be for mac? .ico and .png don't work (running 10.8)
I want to put the ios 7 beta on my iphone 5, but I don't know how stable it is. What are some risks that I could face? Is it really worth it?
