Booting in verbose mode should have the computer dump you back into a commandline after OS X's exited the login UI - perhaps it'll be chatty enough to let you see whether any individual step's taking a disproportionate amount of time cleaning up after itself.
There's a few events labeled 'com.apple.coreservices.appleevents' that stand out from the rest. Most of the other events have 1 or somewhere around 15 in a later column but the apple events are all mid-60s to 70.
So the 5S arrived today, and I can say that I really love it. I haven't used iOS since iOS 4 on an iphone 3g, and it really has changed so much. Everything was very simple and straight forward to set up, and the transition from Android > iOS was really smooth. I expected some problems down the line, especially with contacts. Now, I'm coming from a Note2, and the speed increase is really noticeable. Everything is so smooth and not a single stutter is seen. I also really dig the TouchID feature, it's simple and fast as hell and provides me atleast with some security.
I'm gonna sound real stupid, but what do you do when you make two accounts, and forget the password for the other one? I run a 10.6.8 and I need help quickly!
log in to one and do
sudo passwd otheraccount

Is it worth it to upgrade from a 4S to a 5S? I can trade in my 4S for $200 and then use Verizons edge program.
I say you'd see a nice performance boost, but if you don't feel the need to upgrade then the jump from 4S to 6 will be even better. You'll never keep up with tech, so really it depends on the now: is your financial situation allowing for an upgrade, and do you really need one?
So I replaced the screen in my girlfriends 4th gen iTouch and now its white, it was perfectly fine when i was testing it but as soon as I put it all together it's just white. I've done the home + sleep button along with the volume up button being pressed along with a restore but nothing is working.
My iPod did the same thing when I replaced the screen just leave it on and wait for the battery to die and then when it next turns on it should be fine
There is...
oh, last i heard, there wasn't. is it for os x?
oh, last i heard, there wasn't. is it for os x?
Yes?
awesome.
Spotted a website selling the iPhone 5 for 565 euros. Birthday money + tax returns coming in soon leaves a small contribution on my end left to getting one. Mighty tempted. On the other hand, there's someone in my town selling one used for 425 and it looks pretty good on the pictures, besides the usual marks. [editline]4th October 2013[/editline] Okay, I'll have to change provider anyway but I'm a little tired of being stuck on 50 minutes/texts (that's combined btw, not seperate) a month when I can get 200 minutes/texts and 200 mb (bit of a downgrade on the data but I don't need that much) for just about as much. Plus I can actually get a nanosim.
I use 200MB a day. I can't imagine being limited to that total. Though if you don't stream anything and use wifi effectively I suppose it can be doable for people.
Oh neato, just noticed my ISP is now doing discounts for existing customers on phone plans. 1 GB and 300 minutes/texts for 15 euros a month, including access to wifi hotspots. It's just that if I get a 5, I still have to order a normal sim, contact customer service when it arrives and THEN I can get a nanosim which is more than a little asinine.

The 5S is really nice with the updated camera, slo-mo, fingerprint scanner and how light it is but.. I'm just not sure I want to splurge on it. also is anyone else having problems with the otterbox website and not being able to click anything? I just went out and splurged on a MacBook Air 11" and I have to say this is the best laptop I've ever bought. The price to performance ratio isn't great, but an i5 is plenty for my college work and pissing around on a few games - I have a gaming desktop so I don't really need a powerhouse. Also because its so light I can actually take it out now, the laptops I've had in the past were far too heavy to actually move around so they became fixed to my desk. But yeah, really happy with this.
I've got a really specific problem and I wonder if any of you guys could help. So I had been using a iPhone for a while and was using iMessage to chat to a friend, but today I got a new, non apple, phone. Now the problem is that if he tried to send me a text to my new number it will try and send it as an iMessage no matter what, meaning that he has to hold his finger down on the message and force it to be sent as an sms. Does anyone know a way of forcing it to send to me as an sms all the time instead? I don't think he wants to turn off iMessage altogether though as he uses it.
Should be some option to set SMS as the default in the settings somewhere.
Also, have him check to see if your number is listed as an iphone in his contacts. If it is, you can switch it to generic mobile or something like that. I always thought that was the way it knew whether to use imessage or not. Anyways, I finally have some time to update to actual iOS 7 (I've been on the beta.) I just plugged my phone in and it says I'm up to date. Should I do a quick backup and just reset that shit?
if you have the iphone still, log in to it and disable imessaging, or do it from your icloud account
if you have the iphone still, log in to it and disable imessaging, or do it from your icloud account
I've tried doing both of those, the one from the phone did nothing, and the there seems to be no options at all for disabling it on my iCloud settings and another link that someone sent had a thing to disable it from my support profile but that seems to do nothing either. I also made him delete my contact and readd it as a normal phone and that hasn't worked. As for a option to default sending sms, there seems to be none that will only work for one contact. The problem is he still wants to use iMessage with other people so disabling it completely is out of the question. Apparently after 2 months the iMessage account deactivate itself if no one uses it so if there's no other way i'll have to wait it out.
My 5S has a slight rattle sound near the camera lens. should I be worried?
My 5S has a slight rattle sound near the camera lens. should I be worried?
You can always take it to an Apple Store if it concerns you that much.
my dads 5 has a rattly noise near the camera and I remember people were getting mad about it
I looked it up, and aparently its the sensor thats being hold in place with magnets, but dont quote me on this.
I thought it was the vibrator motor
Could be the vibrator but i dont think it would be a great idea to have the motor thats causing the vinration right next to the camera lens.

Upgraded from the 4s to the 5s the other day. So far I love it. Much faster, even a bit faster than my brother's iPhone 5. It works flawlessly with iOS 7, TouchID works like a charm, and the camera is better though not much of a change. Nice to have LTE, too.
Ran into this absolute gem on the apple forums regarding advertised storage space and usable storage space, take a look if you have the time. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3745223?start=0&tstart=0
Would there be any interest here in buying a used MacBook Pro (2009) in the UK?
