Would there be any interest here in buying a used MacBook Pro (2009) in the UK?
depends on spec model and price, drop us a PM
Just managed to install OS X 10.8.5 on my pc, pretty much everything worked out of the box
I've tried doing both of those, the one from the phone did nothing, and the there seems to be no options at all for disabling it on my iCloud settings and another link that someone sent had a thing to disable it from my support profile but that seems to do nothing either.
I also made him delete my contact and readd it as a normal phone and that hasn't worked. As for a option to default sending sms, there seems to be none that will only work for one contact.
The problem is he still wants to use iMessage with other people so disabling it completely is out of the question.
Apparently after 2 months the iMessage account deactivate itself if no one uses it so if there's no other way i'll have to wait it out.
For anyone wondering/people who might read this in the future who had the same problem; looks like putting the sim into the old iphone and deactivating iMessaging worked in the end.
It took till this morning for it to take effect.
Ran into this absolute gem on the apple forums regarding advertised storage space and usable storage space, take a look if you have the time.

I don't think I've ever held so much hatred for a complete stranger in my life.
Is it against apples EULA to install OSX on something other than a mac?

They're typical Apple fanboys, their brains should be removed.
Or should i refer to you? Since you said "complete stranger", i though you meant the guy who rabbled about storage. he's kinda right..

Lol no he isn't. His "20 years in IT" was obviously horseshit, he couldn't even understand the basics of storage formatting with 1GB being a billion bytes. Then he doesn't understand that somewhere on that NAND the OS has to exist. He's an imbecile. He can reformat his NAND and strip off iOS if he wants it to report 16GB, I don't think his phone will work very well though.

Ha ha oh boy yes. (No-one gives a fuck about EULAs go crazy).
It's been a while since I last started up my 3GS, so far updated it to 6.1.3, sadly no IOS7 for me.
Anyways is there an untehtered jailbreak for this version? Only finding news about it.
Is IOS 7 jailbroken yet or are they still working on it?

is anyone getting any "**number** is not Registered with iMessage" messages for EVERY contact? even on people I've contacted just earlier today.
No, it's up and working fine for me.

So my Mac keeps crashing constantly. It's been sent back to Apple 3 times now, had motherboards replaced... still not fixed.
Anyone heard of this problem?

Let's start with the obvious, is it a certain set of circumstances that cause it?
Let's start with the obvious, is it a certain set of circumstances that cause it?
Nope. Happens in Chrome, in San Andreas, Finder, Photoshop... so pretty much anywhere.
Also tried using timemachine to set to a date that predates the error. No difference.
All this Apple evangelion is so unjust....in my experience OSX isn't more reliable or less reliable than Windows 7.
I never had problems with W7 so I'm going back there, and I like the OS layout there more as well.
Fed up with this machine, I just sold it for 800 less than I bought it for. I'm backing up my files via NAS now and hopefully the parts I ordered for my custom windows machine will come soon.
ugh
Seriously thank you for your attempt to help though.

That was a quick turnaround...
It's more than likely your problem was a hardware component. "Replacing the motherboard" won't fix your issue if your RAM or video card's gone bad.
And you really could have gotten more out of it... Even broken Macs sell for almost as much as new ones.
But it's your choice and your money, I guess. Best of luck in Windows-World.

Well I've been in (contact with) geniusbars, on the phone with Apple, and it's been shipped off for repairs for a total of 3 times over a span of 4 weeks. The last piece of hope or frustration was posting here.
Yes I could've gotten way more out of it, I agree. But I need the computer for my job and I've been fed up working with Ubuntu (which I used as a temp workstation). Nothing wrong with Ubuntu, yet I'm just so much more productive on Windows. I tried OSX after been coerced into believe it was really better than Windows, but it's just different. Not better in any way. I've had crashes within the first two weeks of usage, then it started going bad. I'm now back on a temporary setup with Windows 7, the OS that turns out I prefer most out of all the choices currently available. Only problem is, it doesn't have a graphics card anymore since I gave that away when I bought my iMac.
Thanks for you guy's patience and advice, but I already lost hope and faith in that iMac.
I just posted out of frustration apparantly. Sorry.
Hope you enjoy your (i)Mac(book)s more than I did.
Currently waiting for delivery of a Nvidia Titan and a new motherboard, so I can move on.
Hey, consider you're getting some really beefy hardware for the same price. If your job requires that sort of thing, maybe a Mac's not the best bet anyway?
It all sorts itself out, in the end. It's just a shame your experience was so poor.
Or make a hackintosh with beefy hardware

In a non anecdotal sense, it is. I'd be hard pressed to find anything built on BSD that is equal or worse than Windows with regard to reliability, longevity, and stability. You'd have to actually try to do it. I'm sorry you had a bad experience though, it's never fun when things should just work and they just don't.

Speaking of instability. My recently "donated" iPad 3 sometimes crashes and shows the Apple logo(I think it's a springboard crash). It's on 7.0.2 and out of warranty so I think I'm SOL since even restores haven't helped.

Meh. I opened myself up to OSX, gave it an honest chance but I just feel I'm more productive on W7.
Tried Windows 8 too, what a piece of garbage that is... horrible.
Expecting my new hardware in 3 hours!!! Excited.

You honestly just sound like someone who is incapable of change if you dumped GNU/Linux, OS X, and Windows 8 because you're somehow "more productive" on Windows 7. There's nothing inherent about any of those that would hamper your productivity, just yourself, so it seems to me like you really didn't give any of them an honest chance.
I'm thinking about asking a friend if I could buy his coffee damaged 2010 15" macbook pro because I think I might have a chance fixing it. The question is, what should I offer for it? It's out of warranty and the repair shop wanted 2000 dollars to fix it. It's just sitting around under his bed because he has already bought a 13" rMBP.

$200. Its more than he would have otherwise.
Lowball the crap out of him. You're getting something that doesn't work, why pay more than it's worth in the current state?

If the logic board is out, keep in mind that those things can run between $200-$400 bucks, and if you're spending $200 + $400 to fix a MacBook you might as well buy a used one in good condition for ~$800, since the $600 job has no guarantee of working.
