Or... Buy some more memory for your Mini. It's not that expensive.
yeah i actually have some spare ram units(?) I can steal from a broken computer that's not fixable due to hardware issues. Will I have to worry about compatibility or is it supposed to be universal?
[editline]15th October 2013[/editline]
nevermind I got this.
[editline]15th October 2013[/editline]
shit. This is actually more expensive than I thought.

Don't order RAM from apple, it just has to be laptop RAM. That's the only requirement.

Yeah I looked it up, the cheapest seems to be about $50.

Newegg?
eh still the same. I'll probably just end up doing video editing and stuff on my other computer which came with 8gb ram, which is fucking ridiculous since it was one of those prebuilt ones you sell to old people.
Speaking of editing, are there any good text editors similar to Notepad++ available? A word processor would be neat too, those are the only two things that I need and can't find decent versions of.

For word processors I like Pages.
There's TextWrangler, but it isn't as feature-packed as Notepad++ is.
-snip i'm a maroon-
i was using a pre-finished version that wasn't the correct size
it's still noticeably lower quality though. is there anything i can do fix that?

No, RAM is not universal. I think the Mini uses laptop RAM.

The only Mac minis that used regular ram were the ones that had G4 processors in 2005-6.

At the University I work at we've been having issues when trying to use normal 1.5V laptop RAM with the Mac Minis powering Thunderbolt displays. The picture will cut out at times, and it doesn't occur with 1.35V DDR3L RAM. Just something to think about.
Okay, I think I've figured out why my internet connection is so slow on my desktop, but not on my laptop.
The Airport Express I'm using, when plugged into my laptop, delivers a 1.6mb/s download speed. On my desktop, it also delivers a 1.6mb/s download speed.
Without it, on the laptop? 26mb/s.
Yay...
Does the mac minis power port use the standard figure 8 cord? If not where can I get good used power supplies?

I thought Apple didn't do power supplies... They typically integrate those into the computer itself, right?
Sorry, I meant like the part that goes from the mini to the wall.

Sublime Text 2 is hands down my favorite editor. At least if you're using it for programming (given that you mentioned Notepad++)

Sublime Text 3 is in Beta as far as I know, but its my favourite editor too at my mac maschine :)

It's the figure eight cord.

The pre-2010 mac mini had a power brick.

Well, that's interesting. Didn't know that.
I really hope they announce the new Macbook Pro's next week. As much as I like the new 13" I just got, I really want to return it and get that Haswell BatteryLife/Gpu advantage.
What do you think about the 12" Version :)?
It triggers the wrath of Steve Jobs' taste - at which point you won't be so unapologetically cramped.
Turns out it was a pre 2010 mac mini. Any good websites where I could get a cheap power cord/brick?
Hello,
what do you think about this? :o

Why?
I need black Dock icons for the standard apps, than it will look well.

I really don't like the background, and since it's so prominent that'd be a big issue for me if I had to have that as my OS X desktop.
I've been really liking Osx, I can get used to this.

It's like this almost perfect mix of Unix stability and First party application support.
