So... If I wanted to use my laptop as my desktop... I'd have to plug it into the monitor, and plug my peripherals into it, right?
Can I run a keyboard and mouse off the same USB hub? And do they sell stands for these things?
That's pretty much what I'm doing, and it works fine.
And yeah, there are a few stands available. I don't know who sells them or how much they are, but they exist.
Hey, I found a quick and dirty solution that works pretty dang flawlessly.
Bookends!
I took my two cheap, crappy bookends, and slid the laptop between them so the hinge faces upward. (I've heard this is the best orientation for airflow.)
Plugged everything into the back, threw a power strip on the desk, and I now have an iMac.

Can i have the link for the background, would be nice my friend :)
So if I'm going to buy an unlocked 5s without a credit card apparently I'm SOL unless the store gets a shipment which according to the people there has been extremely irregular. Feels like I'm not gonna be getting a gold one.
Got an iPhone 5c after years of Android. SO much better.
Anybody have an idea how you could boot a macbook pro without a harddrive (thus os x-less) from a live usb stick containing ubuntu or some other light linux distro? The usb image has to be created on my windows machine. I've been googling like crazy.
hold down alt at boot?
hold down alt at boot?
I tried that with whatever usb-image I managed to create earlier tonight, but the only available option was the "network restore" one. But as indicated, I'm not sure I did a good job creating the usb-image. Every guide I find seem to focus on either creating a bootable usb for windows created in windows or a bootable usb for os x created in os x. Not one for an os x-less macbook created in windows.

I used the usb installer from pendrivelinux
You can stick a CD with plop bootloader on there, but you'd have to use that CD every time you boot.
I was actually quite surprised over how much the 5S improved over the 5. Usually the S series is just better specs and nothing different visually. Kinda excited for the iPhone 6 now. A colored iPhone would have been cool but the 5S is the ugliest phone I've seen. One of the main reasons for me switching from Android was that the iPhone wasn't a cheap plastic piece of shit (even though one model is now)
Well, it's plastic, but at least it's well manufactured plastic - more than can be said of 80% of phones for sale to date.
Yeah anyone who says it's "cheap" is obviously speaking from ignorance and hasn't used it. It's an extremely well built device. Completely different from something like a Galaxy S phone. I'd never buy one, I'd buy a used iPhone 5, but I won't misrepresent the merits of the 5C because it's plastic.
With the way Apple advertised it with those Cro-I mean cases, I'd expect that they want you to use the 5C with one of those cases anyway, which mitigates most of the plastic part.
I wasn't talking about the build quality, I've never held one. I meant that it just looks ugly, as do a lot of plastic phones.
the 5c plastic reminds me of the original Xbox 360, mostly in a good way. It looks alright, just kinda standard plastic shell, non real merits i can hand to it
a slightly rubberized plastic like on my '12 nexus 7 would have been better. I could see the 5c getting a little annoying with slightly greasy or sweaty hands

That's a running trend with Apple's phones, as they're all made of glass.

Except you really never feel the glass on the back of the 5/5s since it's two small inserts on the very top and bottom.

And I hold the opinion that you should be using a case anyway if you care about your phone.

As long as that case isn't made of Crocs :v:

I hope all of the Haswell Macbook Pro rumors come true. I really don't want to return this Ivy Bridge macbook and use my gaming laptop until the Haswells are released.

A case made from legitimately recycled crocs would be a good use of crocs

I made the switch to a 5S from a Note2
What i really like about the iPhone is, that you get the update on day one, and not 2 years later. Also it feels much more fluid and smooth.
Now only some dev's need to update their app to use the iOS7 UI. (I'm looking at you whatsapp.)

You also just know if your device is getting the update, Apple won't leave you hanging for a year with 'no really guys, your device is getting it' before dropping it (Samsung, looking in your general direction).

My last few phones were form Samsung (Galaxy S2, Note 1, Note 2), and it was a really painful experience. I've never got a single update for my phone, that updated the Android version from something like 2.3 > 4.0 etc...
The only solution was to either root, and flash a ROM that provides a new version, or wait ~1 year for Samsung to release an update, and as you might expect, voiding your warranty isn't the smartest thing to do.

I'd say a case made of illegitimately recycled Crocs would be an even better use of Crocs.
Speaking of Crocs, who still wears those things? It's just hospital nurses and Mario Batali, right?

Aside from the obvious people with no fashion sense, yeah.

Who cares about fashion. As long as you don't leave the house looking like a jackass, you're fine.
But crocs make you look like a jackass so that point is Moot I suppose
