I'm still sore over the 17inchers not being a thing anymore.
Is it worth it to upgrade from Snow leopard to Mavericks? I know it's free, but will I lose any neat Snow leopard features?

Front Row, it runs a little worse, and there aren't any colors in the icons in the finder sidebar. Also everything is integrated with iCloud instead of MobileMe.

The combination of Expose and Spaces in their apogee.
I miss iCal and iChat. Fuck Messages and Calender.
Can't wait until Mavericks is out. Probably gonna throw a clean install on my MBA.

And of COURSE IT JUST APPEARS!
Downloading Mavericks right now!
I had to restart my MBA so it would download.
If I update to Mavericks, will it rewrite the restore HDD in my Mac mini?
I'm still baffled they're keeping a 3 year old iPad in the line up and keeping it at the same price. Why are they keeping devices with the old connector for sale. At least I could kind of understand it if made it cost $299 at the most but even that a bit excessive I think.
Having the old mini at $299 (and the ipad 2 at $399 for that matter) is completely retarded. A $30 price drop on a year old product (with even older internals) is just insane. I realize android isn't for everyone (I don't even own an android device), but the new nexus 7 is just a ludicrously good deal compared to basically everything on the market right now.
And what's up with the "Air" name? They never were consistent with the ipad names, but 5 would very much have sufficed.
The iPad Mini retina is between 2 and 4 times faster than the Nexus 7, with a better display, much better build, and actual tablet apps. The Nexus 7 is only a good deal if you're stupid. Why buy a 7" device that runs big phone apps when you can just buy a Nexus 4(and soon to be 5) and get the exact same apps but not have to lug around a 7" device. I've never understood it. You can get the same experience as an android tablet on your android phone, and you can just put it in your pocket.

Seeing that makes me want to sell my MBA and get MBP 13in
Weird how the mini with retina + LTE still won't have 1700MHz for HSPA. I'd think T-Mobile would want to be able to use it too, though I guess they're building out 1900MHz now.
[editline]22nd October 2013[/editline]
Also something's up with the iPad Air. 2x faster GPU means it's not the same A7 as the iPhone. Might be using a G6630.
I'm also surprised at no Mac Mini update
Also no Apple TV or iPod classic update either?
Damn been waiting ages for mavericks and now that it is out my air is being repaired.

A classmate of mine asked about it and I said it was likely. I'm gonna get bitched at tomorrow.

I would say 4x as fast is a bit of a stretch. I also don't see what you're basing the better display off.
Not all apps are the same as the phone versions some are optimised, and even if they're aren't the added real estate is a bonus you can see more text. It's not perfect yet but Google are working to get more developers to make tablet optimised apps, however I would say it is better than iOS way of just enlarging the whole app. Larger screen is also better for video viewing.

There's barely any optimized apps compared to iOS. You don't even get a tablet twitter app unless you buy a Galaxy Tab.
There isn't any added real estate when your phone and tablet use what is effectively the same resolution of 1920 vertical. The extra 120 pixels along the horizontal just contributes to app stretching, there's no benefit to rendering.
The display will be better. The Nexus 7 has a very well calibrated display but Apple's calibration is consistently better than every other device. This is not an opinion, science agrees with this. Every Apple retina display now displays images that effectively are rendered perfectly and the same across all of them.
And I said 2-4x. In some cases it can be up to 4x faster in theory. In more real world reflective benchmarks the A7 is 2-3x as fast as Qualcomm's 600 and 800 series, and if you made a heavily floating point based application it's very possible the A7 could be 4x faster than the Snapdragon 600.

Oh and the GPU destroys the N7.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7335/the-iphone-5s-review/7
The Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 use the same GPU, while the mini and 5s use the same as well, so the performance delta is the same as that between the 5s and the Nexus 4. Pretty big.
Got an e-mail from dad with the receipt for my new iPod.
This week is fucking awesome. Mavericks release, concert on thursday, party on friday, dad comes home with a shiny new iPod on saturday.

Ehh, I think you're misunderstanding. I'm talking about the plain old iPad mini: http://store.apple.com/us/buy-ipad/ipad-mini
That's a shit deal.
And where are you getting that 2 to 4 times faster figure? And while I'm not gonna argue with the aluminum of the iPad MR, the new nexus 7 is pretty darn solid, and at $229 I don't know why you'd have to be stupid to buy one. Personally, I basically don't use apps - I just want a decent browsing experience, and there would be no idea in throwing $170 extra after that.

I can't seem to find where the iPhone 5S beats out the Snapdragon 600 by 4X. Sure, it's a much better SoC, and I won't debate that, but by pricing it at $399 it's simply in a different segment. The iPad MR also has 1.5 times the pixels, so while the Nexus is lagging behind it's not woefully incapable when considering the price.
But I digress, all my original post revolved around was the pricing of the old iPad Mini, which is ridiculous whether or not the Nexus 7 compares favourably to the iPad MR.

I do think you're confused about how app scaling works in Android. It's not the same as in iOS.
It's literally showing more text.
Nexus 7

It's fine that the Retina iPad Mini costs more (I still think it's a little bit too much), you get more performance but even the lower end iPad Mini is still $70 than Nexus 7. I still feel the Nexus 7 is a better deal and it's problems are a lot less worse than you make it out to be. The Nexus 7 is plenty fast for everyday task, even if it gets sluggish in a year (Which I don't think it will) you could buy the new Nexus 7 and it would only cost $20-30 more than buying one Retina iPad Mini.
So I think it's a bit unfair to call people buying Nexus 7 stupid. When it's a great deal and you're getting a good piece of hardware.
I also don't think it's ideal that iPad Mini is using the same tablet app as full sized iPad. Sometimes ui choices don't work on the smaller screen. So this isn't totally negative towards the iPad Mini, I will say integration is better with apple products and it's still a much better device for music apps.

Can't wait!
I do want to see the 15" version though. I may return and swap for it depending on if the extra $$ and size is worth the extra cores.
I'm well aware how it works, and I'm sure I've owned more Android devices than you ever will. You can just adjust the software DPI for the phone and have it display EXACTLY THE SAME as the tablet. An Android tablet is a big phone when it comes right down to it. The difference between 16:9 and 16:10 is pretty minuscule for app display, and when you have 1920 vertical on both devices you can have apps display identical and still be usable.

Haha wow, and you accused me of not knowing what I'm talking about. I've never heard of a single iPad app that doesn't work fine on the mini. Can you link one? If you're so adamant in your opinion that using tablet apps on a 7.85" 4:3 device is less ideal than using 4.7" cell phone apps on a 7" one, you should be able to easily show us some example to demonstrate it.
Come on people, let's calm our titties and be civil. No need to get into an argument over, of all things, novelty computer hardware.
Let's just sit and bask in the glory of Air.

The choice between a mini and a large iPad is harder for me now. I actually had a third gen passed down to me and although it doesn't run very amazingly it's good enough for iWork which is what I need it for. Once it stops getting updated though, it's difficult for me to decide between the $399 mini and $499 air. The air having the 2x faster GPU is enticing, and the difference in form factors is a lot different now.
One thing I'm unhappy with. I like the 4 segment smart cover better. I had stability issues with the mini smart cover I had.
[editline]22nd October 2013[/editline]
Also are the iWork and iLife for iOS updates supposed to be out yet? I missed the keynote as I was writing a vectors test. I'm not getting the update but I thought I heard some people saying they have.

Yeah, that was my main complaint with the mini smart cover. Have you seen these? I've been looking at them, they look plenty stable: http://store.moshimonde.com/versacover-origami-case-ipad-mini-blue.html
