And I hated Apple back then and if you check my posts back in 2009/2010(do they even exist anymore?) you can confirm that for yourself. Those commercials were retarded and very unlike how Apple should be doing advertisements.
Uhmm.. okay? Great. So you now know it's all cynical marketing and not something you as a person should feel strongly about? Just get whatever product that fits your needs - if it's an Apple product, great, but stop caring somuch about the fucking marketing. I did that myself a few years back and then I realized that I was being a retard.
apple has moved forward in terms of advertising for sure. they now sell their products on merit because they cram the little features into adverts and make you feel like part of a big happy glass and aluminium family for owning an iphone
Samsung seems to treat it as personal considering they pretty much exclusively take cheap shots at Apple. They never did some commercial criticizing the HTC One, and it's weird because that seems a lot more like a phone Samsung buyers would be swayed to buy than an iPhone. Edit:FP what the hell, why didn't you merge.
No one is buying the HTC One, though. Samsung doesn't need to target it. They have to target the market leader, and that's what they're doing.

HTC seems confident in what they've made, and that it can stand on its own in a flooded smartphone market. Samsung lacks that confidence in their product so their advertising involves trying to tell you everyone else has issues. It's a positive vs negative thing and when I see an ad with a positive tone about the product its trying to sell me, I feel confident that the manufacturer is confident that it's a quality product.

And right now you're basically talking about the quality of an ad; the original discussion started when you guys posted like Apple never made that kind of advertising. Which is clearly untrue. Ads don't make a product "bad" - may give it bad connotations, but unless you're overly emotional about things, they shouldn't influence your choice at all.
Yay! Internet arguments! Let's just all calm down, take a breather, and stop firing broadsides for a second to realize it's all just pithy consumerism, and it's not worth arguing over. Great. Now that I have your attention, does anyone know the specifics of the free iWork/iLife/Garageband thing? I haven't been able to figure anything out about it.
Looks like apple is finally updating their apps to iOS 7, so far I've had find my iphone and podcasts updated.

I thought Apple had stopped charging us more for devices, just more for accessories. [editline]24th October 2013[/editline] But seeing that I paid $70 more for my 5s than people paying $649 in the states, apparently I'm wrong.
Yes!! I finally got that coffee damaged macbook pro working (mentioned a couple of pages ago). I haven't bought it yet, but absolutely everything works on it except the superdrive and the battery.. I wonder if the coffee damage is still a viable negotiation point when it comes to the price. I'm typing on it right now. What to do, what to do...

You're not buying the company, you're buying a phone.
10/10 reading of the full discussion. Isn't this the second time you've come into an ended discussion without even reading all of it? Edit: Does anyone know why iCloud tabs won't work between my iPad and iPhone? I've tried everything Apple recommends and they're still not working. I don't want to restore them.
-snip, waited too long-
And do you find out some hidden tricks in Mavericks :)?
You feel that the HTC is more fitting because of their advertising style? You're not buying the company, you're buying a phone.
when you're shopping for high end consumer electronic products, which are marked up FAR more than almost any other product and as a result have a lot of clout, there are two main things to consider: Will I be satisfied with this company's product, and am I ok supporting this company by purchasing from them? In Samsung's case, the answer to both of those questions for a lot of people right now is no. For HTC, the answer to both is yes. Advertising can affect peoples' answers to both questions, and that's why advertising tactics matter.

Ok so which Mac is faster for video editing, or in general? iMac with Intel Core i5 at 2.5GHz with 4GB DDR3 RAM at 1333 MHz and AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB MacBook Pro with Intel Core i7 at 2.3GHz with 4GB DDR3 RAM at 1600MHz and Intel HD Graphics 4000 384MB with Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 512MB
I know the air is a lot lighter, but it's odd that in terms of dimensions the 13" rMBP and 13" air really aren't far apart. The air is 0.03" thinner but it's actually 0.45" wider. I always thought of it as being more compact too for some reason, but it's not now anyway. I guess that's why its name just refers to weight.
200g isn't really a lot of difference at this point.

You sure it's not packing an Nvidia chip?

[editline]25th October 2013[/editline] The thing with video editing is that it actually needs your CPU a lot more than your GPU. I can edit HD footage in Sony Vegas Pro 11 on a Windows Desktop on an i5 2.8GHz with a Nvidia Geforce 210 512MB, for rendering I'm not sure. I heard that the HD4000 series of graphics is pretty good...
The application you are using should utilize cuda on the Nvidia card automatically if it is supported. Hd4000 sucks if the Mbp is a retina, my current loaner 13" tends to lag on webpages... I don't know why, but I feel like I should have gone for the i7 upgrade on the Haswell 13" I ordered. I know it isn't very cost effective compared to the jump from the base i5 to the upgraded i5. 8% performance for $200 just doesn't seem right, but I have this nagging feeling. [editline]25th October 2013[/editline] I'm probably just being stupid. The laptop will be more than enough for any engineering coursework and if I really need speed I'll log into one of my school's remote workstations.
I want a Macbook only because every Windows laptop I've used is complete shit. [editline]25th October 2013[/editline] and I'd probably end up putting win8 on it too

also a great linux laptop. source? torvalds himself :rolleye: can't wait to get my air soon.
My brand spanking new 15" Macbook Pro is supposed to arrive any minute. How do I contain this excitement?!

Anyone know the return policy on Apple computers? The associate at the store told me 30 days, but my receipt says 14. I would really like to have this "loaner" laptop for the weekend until my Haswell comes in, I guess to be safe I will be stopping by the store and ask a manager what is possible.
