What's some good, preferably free, software to get your music off your iPod? Already taken care of. Forgot I got Diskaid in a bundle a while ago, which has support for copying off idevices straight into itunes.

That happened to my ipod touch, rebooting fixed it for me.

Does anyone know why the screensaver always comes on in the login window instead of just going to sleep? In System Prefs I have the screensaver off and set the computer/monitor sleep time to 15 minutes, but it just goes to the flurry screensaver indefinitely. This wasn't happening when I was on Lion, but ever since I upgraded to Mavericks it's been doing this.
Have you gotten a chance to test the battery life?
Not had chance to fully test it, but I got this working on the train this morning... Medium brightness, with wifi. Running iTerm, Sublime Text, Chrome, Sketch and Photoshop. Pretty decent.
I need a new laptop or battery, the one in my MacBook has had it. Late 2008 and it lasts only 2 hours max. Battery meter says I'm at 178% of recommended charge cycles, 711 cycles.
Damn, that makes me want one even more.
That battery life looks nearly too good to be true for me in comparison what i got. I usually run Sony Vegas (light editing, no rendering), Chrome, Office applications and Spotify and my cheap 500 euro HP laptop runs dry within 4 to 5 hours. While using these programs lightly.

Anyone with the new 13in rMBP, how does the Iris graphics handle the res? Is there any noticeable stutter?
Anyone with the new 13in rMBP, how does the Iris graphics handle the res?
this just makes me even more excited for wednesday. can't wait to get my rmbp now, gosh yours is the late 2013 model, right?
Yup, 15" late 2013 with the 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and 720M.
no you can't?
surely you can lower the running resolution? [editline]28th October 2013[/editline] if not then i've been misinformed, but w/e
surely you can lower the running resolution? [editline]28th October 2013[/editline] if not then i've been misinformed, but w/e
You can select a lower scaled resolution. At least you can on my non Retina Macbook.
You can select a lower scaled resolution.
that's what i mean, though. obviously you can't change the native resolution :v: whatever though, i'm sure iris pushes the resolution much better than last gen processors
Iris runs 2880x1800 fine, so the 13" will be okay. The 15" only switches when plugging in external monitors or running 3D applications.

By default it has the workspace of a 1440x900 laptop.
i know that now, just a little misinformation on my behalf thanks anyways!
You'll probably want to run it at that though. Going from your 1920x1200 workspace to one that is effectively 1440x900 will probably feel limiting for you. The space you once put your browser in to fit a whole webpage might be the entire display.

I really wanna goto an iPad Air launch on Friday. I don't wanna get there at a stupid hour like 3am, I'd prefer to arrive on opening time at like 8am. What are the chances of me getting one? I'm either gonna goto the Trafford Centre Store or Liverpool One
Why did Apple stick with 1440x900 for so long, even after 1080p became the standard?
Why did Apple stick with 1440x900 for so long, even after 1080p became the standard?
They didn't, at least not for their pro lineup. They offered 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 models in 15" and 17" respectively prior to making the Retina Macbooks. "1080p" is 16:9 which doesn't work for a MBP. I'd imagine keeping the air as a TN panel at 1366x768 and 1440x900 is a power consumption thing, but you're right that they're going to have to bump it to something like 1600x900 and 1920x1200(why does the MBA ship in 2 different aspect ratios?) if they're going to keep competitive as time goes on.
Ah, see, I've been using a late 2011 MBP lately, but it always runs at either 1680x1050 or 1440x900, depending on what I'm doing. I had just assumed the 13" Pro, as well as the Airs, still used 1440x900 panels.
Well the old pro still does but I honestly don't believe anyone but educational purchasers will buy that thing. Apple's laptops are basically you get either 2560x1600 and 2880x1800 on the high end, or you get 1366x768 and 1440x900 on the (relative) low end. The latter work up to 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 of effective space which I think is more than adequate for 13" and 15" laptops.
