I went 15 minutes before opening and stood in line for my friend's 5S, there was plenty left!
I think they've learned their lesson and have gotten more stock this time.
Why did Apple stick with 1440x900 for so long, even after 1080p became the standard?
apple stick to 16:10 because of how OSX, and macbooks are designed. it's a better resolution for general computing in any case, imo [editline]29th October 2013[/editline]
Well the old pro still does but I honestly don't believe anyone but educational purchasers will buy that thing. Apple's laptops are basically you get either 2560x1600 and 2880x1800 on the high end, or you get 1366x768 and 1440x900 on the (relative) low end. The latter work up to 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 of effective space which I think is more than adequate for 13" and 15" laptops.
i honestly have no idea why anyone would buy the older pro that's available at the moment. save £100 and you get a monumentally better laptop. i guess the 500GB HDD is a partial reason, but most students have an external HDD and a cloud saving application like Drive at their fingertips surely an optical drive isn't that important? [editline]29th October 2013[/editline]
I really wanna goto an iPad Air launch on Friday. I don't wanna get there at a stupid hour like 3am, I'd prefer to arrive on opening time at like 8am. What are the chances of me getting one? I'm either gonna goto the Trafford Centre Store or Liverpool One
you'd probably be waiting a while at both of those stores, but the ipad air, i imagine, isn't as high in demand as something like a 5s, so it's worth a shot
the classic macbook pro without hi res screen was 1440x900, a carry on from powerbooks of ye olde 2004. i can't live without 1650x1050 at 15" omfg
I just reformatted my 17" MBP unibody, it's a C2D from 2009 with 8GB, feels ancient spec wise damn it's still a beautiful machine. I hadn't turned it on to use in two years. Surprisingly I haven't needed it anymore in school.
hmm, yeah. i think i could manage sticking to 1920x1200 for normal usage and dropping it down for more intensive work (not incredibly often, as i use my desktop for rendering etc.) [editline]29th October 2013[/editline] either way, i'm glad i waited it out until the new retina macbook pro was announced. having to go from a crazy high density panel like the one on my t61p to 1440x900 would have been a little alienating at best
...don't tell me that IPS FlexView's going in the trash.
oh no, definitely not. i couldn't bring myself to throw away my baby
damn, if you were in the UK i would consider buying it cheap as a DIT machine. unless it was glossy
It is Glossy, I debated matte so much but ended up going with the glossy.

The battery on my 2010 13" MBP lasts just over 3 hours 15 minutes with Chrome (~6 tabs), Spotify, Sublime Text, Postbox, Skype and Evernote open. That's pretty bad...right? (On an unrelated note, my battery got replaced about a month or two ago and only has 80 cycles, but a battery monitor is reporting that the battery is 90% of it's original charge capacity.)
I don't know what battery life for laptops is good...

Yeah, it's pretty bad; I used to get at least 6-7 hours before Mavericks, and Apple said the laptop would get up to 10 hours and keep 80% of the charge after 1000 cycles. At least mine is doing permanent desk duty for now and I don't need the battery too often, but it'd be nice to have it work like it did.
Just opened my new Haswell 13" box. It is pretty much the same as my current early-2013 13" except just a hair thinner and noticeably lighter. Once all my data is transferred I'll post some more info on battery life, browser lag, etc. [editline]29th October 2013[/editline] Scratch that, I did a complete transfer from Time Machine and it broke a lot of things. Guess I need to wait for the recovery system to redownload Mavericks to install -__-

I'm planning to take this laptop into sixth form with me (Sixth form would start ~next september for me), so obviously battery life is important to me.

Figured I'd ask here since it is a Mac related question: I recently put in a Samsung 840 EVO into my 2009 MBP, Everything runs fantastic; but I wanted to upgrade it to the latest mac firmware from Samsung (since it is technically a 3rd party SSD to the machine, and can't be auto-updated) but I'm unable to find any reliable resources or How-to's. I have the necessary files, But upgrading it is the part that eludes me. Does anyone have experience on the issue?

Would a 110w mac mini power cord work with a mac mini from 2005 designed for 85w?
Was clearing out the office today and I snatched up an old PowerMac G5 running Tiger. Planning on gutting it and sticking my hackintosh/gaming desktop in there.
