Was clearing out the office today and I snatched up an old PowerMac G5 running Tiger. Planning on gutting it and sticking my hackintosh/gaming desktop in there.
The motherboard mounts for the old G5 cases were weird. Might want to make sure you can actually mount your motherboard in there. This: http://build-its.blogspot.com/2011/04/how-to-fit-your-pc-in-power-mac-g5-case.html This is the stuff you'll be dealing with.
I use Hola Better Internet on my Windows PC to get USA Netflix but what can I use for OSX?
Hola service works with OSX (I actually used it the other night on my Macbook for Netflix :v:). You just use the browser plugin, rather than the standalone application. Works the same, just that there's no peering, just VPN access.

My iPhone 5's battery indicator is stuck at 100%. I've tried all the recalibration techniques I can find. It never changes.
My iPhone 5's battery indicator is stuck at 100%. I've tried all the recalibration techniques I can find. It never changes.
Sounds like a hardware fault.
whats the lowest price i can find for a 80-160 GB ipod classic.
Probably dead with a broken harddrive. I would guess $15-20
My rMBP battery life just keeps getting better and better. Medium screen brightness with Chrome/Sublime Text/iTerm and Spotify open.
I only get six hours on my 2011 MBP...

Hey guys, are there any good utilities that will keep my Macbook Air running smooth? I don't like to download a lot of programs that do nothing. So far, I have CCleaner, but I'm not sure how much it will help with keeping it up to speed. I'm very new to the Mac world.
As long as you don't bog it down with crap, it should stay pretty fast. OS X has built-in garbage collection for the SSD, and App Nap to reduce load from background applications. CCleaner's good, but I wouldn't worry too much about downloading anything else. It can handle itself.

Does anyone here use a Mac Mini for a server? I've been thinking about it for my enterprise server which currently resides on a Linux box. Everything looks easier to configure, and a lot less headachy than doing everything through command line.
I don't personally but there is a place that rents out Mac Minis as servers If I find the link, I'll post it.
There's actually dozens, they apparently are becoming larger in the server community because of how simple they are.
And also because Apple doesn't make the Xserve anymore. The only server they sell is the Mac Mini. And I understand entirely why. For rack-mounting purposes, they take up less space than a traditional blade (You can mount four in the same space as one blade), and they're entirely self-contained (If one breaks, you don't have to figure out what broke, you just pop a new one in). Considering they cost about as much as most individual server components, they can actually be pretty economical for small businesses.

My partner and I really need business emails and VPN stuff. This looks like the best option for me because I don't want to spend decades sysadmining so I can get to my real work. I'll give a review after I get it.
been using my 13" rmbp since 12 this morning, at 16%. still notes two hours left :P
Is that without wifi and low screen brightness?
Are we allowed to talk about jailbreaking here?
Yeah, current jailbreak info is here: http://jailbrea.kr
Well thats a shame my iPod is 6.1.3
Damn it. Well, I fixed my friends macbook pro with the intention of buying it, but now he has regretted his decision - i.e. no macbook for me. So, now I'm thinking about buying a new haswell 13" MBPr. Is it viable to buy it, use it for a year, sell it and then buy the next generation one? I'm thinking about this because the second hand market for apple products is crazy. Doing this I would more or less get the next new macbook and extend the warranty with a year for just a loss equal to the price of, lets say, the expanded AppleCare anyway. What's your opinion? [editline]4th November 2013[/editline] I thought 6.1.3 was jailbreakable?
I'm wanting IOS7 Jailbroken dammit, just for my pebble. Makes the thing so much more useful.
Is that without wifi and low screen brightness?
mid brightness, wifi, general browsing and some photoshop usage [editline]4th November 2013[/editline] how would my wifi have been off just think about it
Remote has gotten an update with an iOS7-ish look. Forget who it was but for that guy, here's hoping Keynote Remote gets one too.
I'm hoping Apple TV gets the Ive makeover soon.
