Yeah the 4S can run IOS 7, although if you want to jailbreak, iOS 7 isn't possible yet. You should know your way around if you've used a 3G, there's the drag down notification bar at the top like Android and also on iOS 7 if you drag up from the bottom of the screen you get shortcuts for WiFi, bluetooth etc
I've realized something about the iPad Air.
The saturation curves are all over the place. Seriously, the blues and yellows are maxed out, and it actually makes me kind of uncomfortable. Facepunch goes full neon, with the blues and yellows. Greens and reds aren't as bad.
Anybody know what could be causing this? Is it just Apple not calibrating it properly? Did my backup bring the saturation curves over from the Mini? Is it a defective unit? Is it just me?
Someone help me out here. I'm getting kind of worried.
It's most likely your Air, mine looks fine.

iPad/iPhone confirmed along with tentative release date. Finally a F2P CCG on iOS thats not P2W.
Try as I might, I can't connect my desktop PC to the wireless network with a Time Capsule on it. No error message, it just says it can't connect. Anyone able to help?
desktop PC
Do you mean a Windows PC or a Mac? Can you connect to other networks?

Windows PC. I can connect to the other wireless network in this house just fine.
In other questions, is there any way to only have mail from, say, the last 2 weeks or so in Mail? The idea of having to download about 5k emails doesn't excite me all that much.
How do you think I feel when I browse FP on my "oh my god who just threw a color bomb" Galaxy Note 2? Movie mode is too unsaturated for my tastes but Dynamic is just an explosion of (shittily calibrated) colors.
You wonder why photo pros use Macs... well, sRGB calibration is why.
protogs use macs because they're a standard. apple's monitor calibration isn't magical, but in the mobile range it's a lot better than the rest. but when you're talking about professional monitors, it's not as true

I'd beg to differ. The dE average on the 2013 iMac is <2 across the board and it covers sRGB entirely. It has basically perfect color rendition. You don't even get that with a Dell U3014. Unless you're buying an Eizo, the best I've seen tested for factory calibration is their new iMacs. Now if you're calibrating then it doesn't really matter what you buy, they're all basically the same LG sourced panels in the end and whatever gets done at the factory won't matter after that.

Non-Apple monitors can be easily calibrated to color reproduction standards, sure, but few displays come close to Apple in out of box calibration.
Looks like the Retina Mini just went on sale. Ships in 1 to 3 days as of right now.
Any other owners of iPhone 4 know if there is a workaround for the WiFi signal turning off whilst the phone is locked?
this appears to be a new issue on iOS 7.0.3 (Or whatever the latest is, iOS 7.0.0, the original, seemed to work fine).
Although it is pretty much a brand new phone I've never had this problem; it seems to take around ten seconds to connect to my home WiFi, by which time I finally receive iMessages that may have been pending for hours (I don't get 3G coverage in my area).
This is pretty irritating because to get iMessages when I actually get them requires me to have my phone unlocked... Any suggestions?
Edit: Never mind, I found a workaround, just in case for anyone else experiencing this, you need to turn off Cellular Data and it will keep WiFi on during lock.
So... Why does the iPad have dynamic contrast again? It's a real pain in movies.
So... Why does the iPad have dynamic contrast again? It's a real pain in movies.
It doesn't, it only has dynamic brightness and it's with fullscreen video which is arguably where it makes sense but still not a good decision on Apple's part.
So does anyone else have an iPhone 5 with a fucked up USB cable? It happened to my friend, his dad, and I.

every single lightning cable i've bought has broken
all official
Thats weird, I have never had a problem with the Apple cables. A friend of mine said that the Amazon Basics one is much better so that might be worth a try.

I've never had a lightning cable break but I've broken the 30pin ones near where the head of the connector meets the cable.

So... Why has my video always gone an unhealthy shade of tinge when I'm watching fullscreen video, but disappears when I tap the screen to bring up the controls?
It's not brightness, it's shifting the entire color palette. And it's happened on every iDevice I've owned.

My official lightning cable also stopped working.

i've never actually inspected them but i think the same thing is happening to my lightning cables. they get severed near the connector a lot
Is there anything to wait for, or should I just order a Retina MBP 13" now? I don't remember Apple doing any Black Friday or Christmas sales.

You might be able to find it on sale at bestbuy on black friday but other then that no.
So how come Apple don't like the iPhone 5 so much? seeing as they stopped selling it but still sell the 4s
is it because all of the problems with the metal wearing away and some of them arriving damaged?

Cheaper to make the iPhone 5c, in all likelyhood
no longer in production, they want to sell more 5s and 5c?
just guessing
It just seemed weird to still sell the 4s on the Apple website

No. It's what Manning said, it comes down to cost. Back in the day when Apple's lineup was plastic phones their 3 tier strategy of moving the previous model down a step worked. Now that their phones are made of very precisely machined aluminum and glass that strategy just doesn't work as well from a cost perspective. It makes sense when you consider that Apple made the 5C the year after their lineup kicked out the 3GS which was obviously really inexpensive to make.
Once the 4S is out of the lineup next year, you won't get a metal and glass phone for anything but the high tier device. Although you might think the 4S would cost a lot to build, Apple can get those 60% sRGB panels and A5 chips for dirt cheap which offsets the cost of materials. If you go to the 25th episode of the Anandtech podcast and go to 56 minutes in they explain it really well.
Oh cool, I just got bored and found myself on the apple website and noticed the 4s was still there
I still think the 4/4s has to be my favorite phone design in the world
4 is definitely the nicest looking in pictures and concept-wise, but in practice I think the 5 design is much better.
