Can you jailbreak iOS 7 yet? Or is this shit fake?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTWaKmVqECo
I can see that it's fake. The animations were iOS 6ish. I dunno why, I can just tell the difference almost instantly.
[editline]24th November 2013[/editline]
Also, has anyone heard Siri's voice lately? I have an iPhone 5S and it still sounds like the normal Siri. My girlfriend has an iPhone 5, and her Siri sounds very... human. Both using United States English and both on the same iOS version. Does Apple update Siri on a server? I always thought the Siri voice was local.
So I was thinking about getting an iPad Air for Christmas.
Any opinions?
I sort of want to get it for the film making apps it has to aid me in making videos. Such as scriptwriting software and organization software. Worth it or what? I have never owned a tablet.
I own an iPod Touch 5th gen and a Nexus 4 so I sort of have experience with both iOS and Android.

Considering how slow Siri is compared to Google Now, it wouldn't surprise me

As far as I know, the best film making app is iMovie, and that's not for professional work. You need a computer for that

I don't mean film making as in editing etc, I mean for writing scripts and workflow apps that aid in movie development.

the ipad is pretty useful on a film set, my mate uses it for us since there's a wide variety of apps and it's pretty flexible, plus the battery lasts a shooting day. you'll always have a DIT or at least a laptop handy for clip playback or backups anyway so i guess it's useful.
Would I be better to get the new Mini or the Air? Not sure if I should go for larger or not

They're the same spec wise, it's totally down to you. We can't chose your preferences :v:
Go try both of them out in store or something.
I like my Air, but I also liked my Mini.
What size works for you?

Screen is definitely not the same, it's $100 less so they had to cut something.
Call me a slow fuck if you will but something magical has happened to my MBA that cut shutdown times down to about 2-4 seconds.

It's absolutely bizarre that you say that, because the Mini has a more technically impressive screen. The Mini and the Air run at the same 2048x1536 resolution, but the Mini is two inches smaller! Means a higher DPI, and sharper, crisper images.

No, it isn't. No offense but I wouldn't expect you to know given your previous posts regarding displays, but it's not better. You're judging the display based on nothing more than its size and resolution. Using only those metrics you don't even know if a display is monochrome or color. That's why the quality of a display is evaluated beyond that.
The mini with retina display has the same color saturation as the iPad 2, much like its predecessor. It's far behind the iPad air and even the 2013 model of the Nexus 7. Every color beyond 60% saturation of the sRGB gamut is not reproducible on the mini's display, it is on the air. This is very apparent given the color palette of iOS 7 and I was actually berated by someone who had bought it on my recommendation about how the mini looked dull compared to their iPhone 5 so it's clearly something even a common user can notice without understanding why.
Just for reference, here's Apple's new tablets side by side(click to expand)

More technically impressive, yeah right. I was going to buy this thing until I went and saw it in the store. It wasn't even next to an iPad Air but having owned the iPad 2, Mini, and 3, it was immediately apparently how the higher levels of color saturation simply weren't there for iOS icons I see daily. This wouldn't be an issue if this was par for the course, but $200 Android tablets offer proper calibration and gamut coverage and they simply look better. There's no reason a $400 tablet should have a worse screen than the $229 Nexus 7.

Something tells me you spend way too much time fussing over screens...
And perhaps it's my monitor, or my eyes, but I (and quite possibly most other consumers) cannot tell much of a difference between the two. The one on the left looks slightly more faded, but only just.
The colors on the left are less saturated, most noticeable on the iTunes Store and App Store icons.

Argument by dismissal, 10/10. Even if your ad hominem argument was true that won't change it being utterly irrelevant. You were wrong when you said the mini was better, there's nothing beyond that.

Those two are indeed some of the best examples, and I'm glad someone picked those two because it confirms it is indeed a noticeable difference. I don't know how someone can say it isn't, it's a massive difference. I can't imagine someone saying this image has one color, but they'll do it when those colors aren't directly touching.

Anyway the overall point is that there is a tradeoff. Both with the display, and with keeping the SoC at a high frequency over longer periods. I personally don't recommend the mini just on the basis of Apple crippling the display when they didn't have to, but if the air doesn't work for you size wise the mini is obviously the option for you in the iOS world.
Well I don't know what my preference would be I guess I will have to go to a store and check. But I don't know if a Mini is a big upgrade over an iPod Touch, or if a iPad Air is worth it when I have a laptop. I mainly want to use it to read books and write scripts and notes but I also would like to use some apps for making film workflows much easier so I am a bit split. The air is pretty pricey compared to the mini.
Would 16gb be enough do you guys think? I won't need any music on it since I have an iPod. I would only use it for apps and books.
if you have a light laptop with a good battery life, i wouldn't personally say the ipad air would be of much use to you. in that case, i would opt for something smaller like the Mini. it has a much different purpose, but still ends up being super useful
i would use up 16GB quickly, but it depends on yourself. if you can get the 32GB for not much more, then shoot for that instead
My laptop is heavy enough and doesn't have great battery.
Like I want to mainly use the iPad when I'm on a beanbag or in bed or travelling or something like that. I guess I would really have to go to the store and try them in person to see. A Mini seems like it would be quite small.
Where could I get a 32gb version of either for 400 or less? Is it even possible? I'm living in Ireland too so quite expensive
oh, probably not in ireland (i live in ireland too, registered in NI). i had my ipad brought over as a gift from america :[
i find my mini to be of a nice size, and my mother is content with hers too. i don't know if you've tried one yourself, but it's worth a trip to an apple store before you make any final decisions on what you buy

I feel bad for people without an Apple store nearby. With all the replacements I've gotten I don't know what I would do without it.

Yeha its heart breaking seeing places like America sell them so cheap with conversion rates, but we just get screwed over. It's like 2 euro = $1.
Yeah my girlfriends brother has a Mini, and it's a decent size but I'm still not sure if I will regret it.
Are the iPads all the same size screen? Just her mum has like an iPad 1st or 2nd gen. If the screen size of it is the same as the Air I can compare them there.

And you're a sack of arses, but I don't fault you for it. Could we have a bit less snark, please?

How about a decent argument instead of personal attacks attempting to masquerade as legitimate points? You're again just trying to deflect and dismiss to avoid saying "Ok, I was wrong." and you're continually insistent on continuing a discussion that would otherwise be dead if it were had with both parties following respectful rules of proper arguing because there wouldn't be any of these personal attacks being tossed out every post. If you're not going to have civil discourse then stop posting, the hypocrisy seeping out of your request for "less snark" is almost sickening.

Yes, all the large ones are 9.7" at either 1024x768 for old models and 2048x1536 for new ones. The mini and retina mini are the same resolutions but at 7.9".
Ah as long as they are the same screen size I can compare them better. Still would be nice to try both the retina mini and air in a shop though. What one do you think I should go for?

It really boils down to size as you've probably been told. Despite any hardware differences, the core experience is the same and it's just not as easy to always carry a 9.7" tablet. Although mine is significantly heavier and larger than the iPad Air, I still don't know if I could bring an air with me 24/7 but I know I was able to fit a mini in a pocket. If you go to the store and notice the air seems too large for you to fit into your lifestyle then the mini is probably better suited for you.
Yeah I guess I will really have to try find them in a store! Still debating if I really want a tablet too. Only reason I'm going for an iPad over the Nexus series is because it has more film workflow apps
EDIT
Also, would you know where I could get a 64gb iPod Touch 5th gen. Want to pick one up for my girlfriend but they all seem to run 300+. Know of anywhere cheaper?

I work at a Apple Reseller and we can do replacements.
I work at an apple reseller, too. we have replacements also. usually they're out of house, though.

Usually if it's a ipad we have to send it off to apple and let them send us back a replacement. but just recently we have been able to do on the spot exchanges, mainly with iphone.

Mine were all iPads, though I have a feeling before the warranty is up I'll be having the phone replaced because the home button is going to break.
